Very Coarse Hair
 
:questione Just wonderig does anyone have experience with very coarse hair? My new puppy gypsy Rose has coarse hair,her body isnt too bad but her legs are very coarse.Are there any good lotions and potions? Also will it grow alright? Any info would be much appreciated as i have never had experience with this type of hair! :confused:

My dog's are all silk but I know someone who's dog's hair is pretty coarse. Her coat is beautiful and long (I imagine it's harder to break off). How long is your pup's coat and how old is your pup?

Rumor has it that if you shaved your pups coat where it's coarse, it should come back softer each time. I'm not talking hand scissoring, but actually shaving.
Other than that, I think no amount of potion/lotion is going to soften it up. Your stuck w/ her genetic predisposition to having a coarse coat in some areas.

Chachis hair is the cotttony coat and I use Missing Link. Its a suppliment you sprinkle on their food. I get it at Petsmart. I also use Chris Christensen Day to Day shampoo and conditioner and Ice on Ice.

She will be 12 weeks on sunday.Her coat is really quite short,especially on her face,she is a little angel.Hopefully her coat should grow well then! thanks :D attached a couple of pics for you!

Is she supposed to be a purebred, or does she have some Australian Terrier in her? That would explain the short coat in some areas, the coarseness and her size at such a young age if so! (As well as her markings)

Thankyou for the advice,i have been looking for the 'missing link' but havent been able to find it over here in England,your babies are gorgeous! :)

Yes she is a pure bred,she is kc registered,i have all the documentation

One of my girls had very coarse, short, slow growing hair as a pup. I started using the Chris Christensen Day to Day shampoo, conditioner and Ice on Ice and what a difference it made! It did take what seemed like forever for her coat to grow out, but now she has a beautiful, shiny, silky coat.
Find a good shampoo and conditioner you like and be patient. It will pay off!
BTW- she is a real cutie!!

That's not what I meant. I can register a turnip as a german shepherd. Documentation means little when you have proof like your cute pup that something may be amiss. While yes, it does happen that Yorkies like your little baby can be produced from two purebred Yorkies it's unlikely. I'm not trying to burst your bubble,because no doubt she's a sweetheart! I was simply curious because that would explain a lot of your concerns.
Did you get the chance to see the supposed mother and father of her? If so and you believe the breeder, then no worries. This coat, both in markings and type is not common by any means even if poorly bred. Just a thought.

I am pretty certain you can get it online at the Dr Fosters and Smith catalog. The Chris Christensen products you can get online too.

Well i dont know what sort of registration process you have in USA but in England documentation is everything,and you couldnt register a turnip as a german shepherd!I did see the mother and father,they were both pure bred yorkies.Her coat has normal yorkie markings! i dont know what picture your viewing???? How would you know if this coat is common? a lot of other people said their yorkies have coarse coats? also in England we have different lines,not all yorkies look the same.This was actually a post enquiring about grooming/care for coarse coats not for for basically slagging off everything about my puppy (from size to markings),and it is not your place to judge wether my puppy is pure bred or not.I guess your puppy is the perfect size?height?colour? YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! She is a beautiful little girl and im hurt and disgusted with your comments! shame on you Yorkiek9trainer

If you look at that picture you will see how some Yorkie pups and Australian pups look alike. Your pup even tho your pup is a Yorkie she still has similar markings on her face.

As for the hair well I use Pantene pro v on Diesel along with the conditioner. I have heard a lot of people here say that the hair has a lot to do with genetics. What did her mom and dad's hair look like? Maybe you call the breeder and ask her what she use. Maybe she could offer some help.

Awww Yorkie7, dont get upset ... your baby is cute and we know she's very loved. I'm sure if you find the right grooming products for her hair, it will improve. You love her and that's all that matters. :thumbup: She's darn cute and i can't wait to see pics of her growing up ;)
