Yorkie sitting We have been watching a persons Yorkie while he has been out fishing for the last three weeks. We have fallen head over heels for the male yorkie. Sebastian is about five, nurtured, and we have noticed that he has a very weak, baritone type of bark (nothing like our minpin), also he loves to growl for long periods of time trying to talk to us? We find it amazing and know that soon we will loose the dog we have become very attached to. Is this normal for a yorkie to be so subdued in the baking category? I would hate to buy one and then find out he's as voicetourous as my minpin. :) |
I have had 4 yorkies and none of them were barkers unless they heard something during the night. Gracie my last one would go months without barking. Now my Pom, seriouslyshe gets laryngitis from barking so much. She barks all the time for no reason. |
usually, my girls bark only when there is someone at the door. my new baby does bark to be picked up. i know i shouldn't be picking her up when she does this, but she is just so darn cute. my boy hardly ever barks and his bark is barely there like he has laryngitis or something. i definitely don't consider any of mine yappers or yippers. |
we have a female and she only barks when someone comes to the door or this is a funny one...you use tin foil....we don't know y but if freaks her out. Though, my aunt had two female yorkies and one of them is yapper. I guess 50/50 isnt bad odds, dpends on how you look at it he he. |

Before I discovered the yorkie breed, I had a pomeranian for 16 years....... talk about barkers! LOL that was a yappy dog. But yorkies in general are not yappy. My girls will bark when there is noise or something happens.... I have a boy who I have NEVER heard a peep from.... he acts like a cat.... and then there is my tiny BeeBee who is the most vocal. But nothing I would find annoying. |
Interesting - what I've read so far...... because no one has come on yet saying that their little Yorkies' barking can sometimes drive them crazy. And - this is often the case. However, my little Yorkie is like the ones previously mentioned. He barks, but not a lot. I just want make sure you hear both sides. You need to know that a lot of Yorkies don't bark a lot - but some certainly are real little barkers!!!!!! I guess they come in two different packages. Run a search on YT -- search "barking"...... Pippa barks quite a bit which i dont mind but my hubby minds!!!!! She lays on the window sill and barks at anyone or anything that goes past, she also barks at the slightest noise and even barks at nothing  I think a yorkie bark is cute :D |
I would like to tell about my barkers (I mean Yorkies). Gidget just gives one loud bark and she's done. What a good good girl. Joey barks and turns circles at the same time whenever Emilee barks. I swear he should be dizzy and fall over. Now there is Emilee. I love her but, SHE DRIVES ME NUTS AND BACK!!!!!!!!!! She barks at everything and nothing. She barks at any and all noise, people leaving and entering a room, whenever she wants to play, which is all the time. It makes me not want to play with her because she barks the whole time you're playing. I've tried everything mentioned here on YT and nothing has worked. We've given it plenty of time, but feel now it's hopeless. I've heard they can do surgery on their vocal chords, but I just feel that would be an awful thing to do. I just want her to be quiet once in a while when she's awake. |
Well I have no idea about barking! But I did want to say HI!!!! Welcome to YT :wavey: :wavey: Now that you are puppy sitting for a Yorkie, I wonder how long it will take to you get one :p :p They are way too cute!!!! :2hearts2: :welcome4: |
yorkie sitting thanks for the feed back and keep it comming. We have thought about getting another minpin to keep our Breezy company but "barking" was a factor in not wanting one. Sebastian's bark is nothing in comparison and we don't consider him a barker, and from what is sounds like most yorkies cannot hold a candle to the minpin in that department (thank god). I am now more curious now about Sebastian's low growling like someone taught him not to bark but to growl only, it's kind of like a kakle, most definitely like a actual sealion if you ever heard one... Sebastian uses it a lot when sitting on the floor staring at you.. It's funny and was just wondering if it was a trait or something special... We are certainly considering a little Yorkie in our future especially if Sebastian has to go home for good... :( |
I have 1 female that barks very funny like she had the surgery (it's de-barking in MI.) but I know that she has not had this surgery. My others bark if they want to go out or come in. |
My Penny does the little growl indoors when she wants to play or eat, but when someone is at the door, she barks a little bark... BUT when the mailman comes oh man she howls.. and I mean howls, I think the mailman thought I had a huge dog until I saw Penny waiting for him at the front door, and he commented to her, hi there little cutie... So yes they can be little barkers, big barkers, and no barkers !!!! They each have there own personalities :) |
Bailey has 3 barks, 1--when he is startled, ie--being awoken by a noise...2--when he is playing(with his 3 year old beagle brother)....and3--If he hears a noise outside too close to the house or the doorbell.....He is 4 months so we are just teaching him to stop when asked, and that way if we need to have him quiet then he will listen....he is doing great at it....So my guess would be that because they are sooo smart that they can be taught when it is ok to bark and when not to ( at least that is the case so far with Bailey)...hope I have been of some help ......and ....ahem....can't wait to hear about the new furbaby you will be getting in the future ...*cough**cough* LOL...because these babies are sooo dang easy to fall in love with.... :grin2: :grin2: :woof: |
Nope. My Badger only barks when he gets cross with me because I won't drop what I'm doing immediately and play with him. But it's only a cute little frustrated bark anyway. I've had close dealings with four other Yorkies in my life and none of them ever barked apart from the occasional two or three yelps when they were excited or playing. I don't think Yorkies are that much of a barker to be honest. My breeder also said that none of hers bark and that she doesn't know them to bark very much unless someone comes to the door (she has fifteen of her own) |
