How Big will my yorkie get? when i got my yorkie the lady told me when she took him to the vet at 6 weeks he was 1lb. when i took him to the vet two days ago for his 9 week vist he was 2lbs 3oz...can anyone give me an idea of how big he might get? |
Probably around 4 pounds, give or take some ounces. The rule of thumb goes like this: Triple the weight at 7 weeks and that is a good estimate of adult weight. Or Double the weight at 12 weeks for the adult weight. Remember the toy breed dog like Yorkies reach adulthood at 6 months. So expect your little Yorkie to slow lots or stop growing at about 6 months of age. |
I would guess between 5 and 8 pounds. At 7 weeks, my sibling pair were both 1 pound 2 oz, and as adults they are 5.4 for the female and 8.7 for the male. Gaining 1 pound 3 ounce in 3 weeks, from 6 to 9 weeks seems like a lot of gain. |
Our baby was 16 weeks when we were finally able to "pry her out of our breeders fingers"!! :) She weighed 1 lb. 8 ozs. ... Toto surprised us all, even Dr. Lucy ... she was a year old in July and the little "porker" weighs 4 lbs.!!! I think sometimes it's even difficult for an "expert" to estimate an exact weight and we knew this when we bought her. I think that a good breeder will give you a very educated "guess" but had Toto gotten as big as a Saint Bernard we couldn't possibly love her less ... I just wouldn't be able to carry her in my bag!!! ;) |
I checked Sadie's vet records and at 6 weeks she was 1 lb. At 10 weeks she was 2 lbs. Now she is and adult right at 4 lbs. The weight I expected. You also have to factor in body type. Sadie is quit short and stocky while others of her same weight I have see tall and thin looking. So she actually looks smaller than she weights in. Hope this helps. |
Another Question how should i feed my dog he is now 9 weeks i have been just leaving food out for him 24/7. Should i just feed him 3 or 4 times a day and if so how much? |
Always leave food and water for your puppy. He or she should never go without. Yorkies blood sugar can drop rapidly without food. This is very important for the first 12 weeks. My Sadie ate small meals all the time as a pup and we never had a problem with her blood sugar getting to low. But I have heard horrible stories of puppies that were left alone or without enough food. You can end up at the vet or even some have lost a puppy. Also, keep some nutrical (vitamin paste from pet store) on hand in case your pup needs a boost. It has saved lives. SO, are there any pictures of your little pup for us to see? We love puppies and love to see pictures of them as they grow. :) |
i have pictures of him but i don't know how to put them up when i try it keeps saying they are too big |
Yep, I know what you mean. I had to learn how to change the size of my pictures then save them that way to post them here or just about any where else. If you have an image software that probably came with your camera just change the size of the picture and save it that way. 5x7 works good for me. You may need to take the time to play around with it if you have never used it before. Good luck :) |
shannonL ... you have already gotten lots of good advice! I just wanted to share a "tip" that our vet told us. :) Our little babies are very high energy and the sugar level can drop unexpectedly "like a rock". She told us to have a small container of white Karo syrup in Toto's bag at all times in case we got caught without the NutriCal and gave us, in addition to the veterinary formula NutriCal, some of the little "cc" syringes. If we happen to have a sugar drop we just give her about 2cc of the syrup. You can tell by checking her gums and if they are very pale that's one sign that the sugar has dropped. We give her about 2-3cc NutriCal every day because she is such a "picky" eater and we want to be sure she gets all the vitamins & nutrients she needs! ;) |

Yorkshire Terrier Puppy Growth/Weight Chart btw welcome to YT. |
another old thread has popped up! That chart was pretty accurate for me, when i got Pixie from the breeder at 14 weeks she was 1lb 8oz she's now 3lbs (just under) at 14 months old. |
how big is my yorkies adult weight is going to be? im concerned about how big my yorkie is going to be wen she reaches adult weight. shes only 7 weeks and she weighs 2 1/2 pounds..! shes small but i just think she a chubby dog.. i dont want a big yorkie.. i want a 3-4lb yorkie.. can she grow to be big or is it just "baby fat"?? |
She is going to be much, much bigger than three to four pounds. While you can never guarantee weight unless you purchase an adult, research would have given you the resources needed to choose a puppy around the size you want. Remember, smaller isn't always better. |
thanks for the reply amanda, but the thing is that the mother is 4 pounds and the dad is 5 pounds can she get any bigger than them? |
thanks amanda but the mom is 4 pound and the dad is 5 pound will she get bigger than them? my breeder says that thats just baby fat |

This is a really good growth chart that many use to estimate adult weight. However, you will hear how some puppies chart at one weight and end up at another, so it is not guaranteed by any means. One of my boys charted at 5lbs, and is now 16 months and 5.5lbs, and the other one charted between 2.5and 3 lbs, and is now 2.8lbs at 14 months. Well i really don't know would like the answer to.Got my yorkie girl and at 17 weeks she was 2 lbs. |
Wow, this thread is 6 years old, if people would update it, we'd know how big all the dogs got. |
I do have to say that the chart tracked out almost perfect on Paisley. Said she would be 5.5-6.5 depending on the time I was tracking it, and at 1 1/2 she weighs 6 lbs exactly. |
Hi can anybody tell me how big my Bella will get she is ten weeks and she is 2.1lb the sold her to me as a teacup but is this a normal weight at ten weeks? |

Thank you, when I saw Bella I fell in love with her she's my first female dog and I got her From a breeder near by they told me she was a teacup but I dont know about that she is very tiny and round but ten weeks and a few days she is 2.1lb isnt that a little to much to be a teacup, I have a male yorkie that was sold to me and he grew to 13lb he is one can this happen again he is not AKC but bella is I dont know what to think, |

http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...uch-thing.html The weight charts are good guesses, but to get a really accurate idea of what her adult weight would be, you would need to know the adult weight of her dam, sire, grands and all of their progeny. |
My ten week yorkie is 2.1lbs Quote:
Thanks, I have done some research and now I know its just a term that people use to describe the small one or the runt, but bella was not the runt she is healthy and a little chubby Iam only asking about her weight:) |

Just curious how you came up with 4 pounds using the rule you listed? Since we don't know the 8 or 12 week weights, I'd say 9 weeks is just a little over 8 weeks & the pup was probably close to 2 pounds at 8 weeks, so the pup is heading for more like 6 pounds as an adult. I, too, like the Yorkie Growth & Weight Chart. It has been amazingly accurate for my pups. It also shows this pup is guesstimated to be a 6 pound adult. They are all guesstimates rather than accurate estimates. Puppies can surprise us in so many ways, weight included. They may stop growing early, have a late growth spurt, catch up for late starts, or simple not follow the charts at all. Many of us have found the charts to be very accurate in seeing the future but as in all prognostication -- errors happen. I would expect a 6 pound adult but be prepared to love whatever size happens. :) |
