| lightning and reverse sneezing I was hoping someone has had similar experiences and could help out with some more obscure questions. 1) What do you do when your Yorkie gets uncontrollably scared? My yorkie has a real problem with thunder. Any time there is thunder, he starts shivering very badly, his heart rate elevates, he pants, and cannot sit still. Absolutely nothing will work. The most tasty treat or human food doesn't snap him out of it. This state of fear can last for 15 minutes after the last bolt. He is 3 years old. 2) How often does your yorkie reverse sneeze? How often is too much? Mine seems to have a pretty bad fit (1 continuous minute) every day or two. Furthermore, what is the absolute best method for counter-acting this reverse sneeze? I have tried blowing gently in towards his nose, distracting him, and covering his nose, but none really seem to help. Thanks! |

| I'm actually kinda worried now. I was browsing the forum and people describe this type of sneezing behavior as "goose honking," which is also correlated to collapsing trachea. But then on another post, I heard collapsed trachea being associated with a cough - which i find is completely different than a goose honking type inward vibrational gasp. Any ideas? |

| My Pippa shakes if she hears the beeping of a run down battery in phones. She shakes for up to half an hour after the beeping has stopped. As soon as it beeps she will come to me and if i can get the phone to stop immediatley she calms herself within a minute. As for the honking (reverse sneezing) she also has spates of this too, one week she was doing it up to 10 times a day, she was on meds at the time so dont know if that was also a trigger. Now she only does it on the odd occasion. I just smooth her and talk to her calmly and she's fine. A trip to the vet to rule out collapsed trachea would be best, but its sounds just like a bit of nerves to me.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Pom gets the reverse sneeze and it's more like a snorting where she cant get a breath out. i just hold her mouth and nose for a few seconds and it stops, sometimes it starts up again and I just repeat that. My last Yorkie Gracie was so scared of thunder storms and had a sever collapsed trachea and every time it stormed she would get so panicky it would through her into a horrible breathing episode that would result in a trip to the er vet. I live in fear of storms. The last storm we had when Gracie ws very ill sent her into such a state that she nver recovered. I have since tried to make any new puppy not sensitive to storms by acting normal having music on to deaden sound and playing with them trough storms. We just had one a couple of days ago and Cali and i looked out the window at the lightning but there wasn't much thunder. It does sound like your baby has reverse sneeze but it wouldn't hurt to check it out. maybe even give something to calm him down during storms.
