Kinda dumb question... ok, so id like to think i have a good amount of common sense. im pretty good at figuring things out for myself, but i have the dumbest question ever.... What is marking all about?? i mean i know its them leaving their scent behind...but is it pee?? lol i feel so dumb asking, but i realyl dont know. when i take siri for a walk now, he lifts his leg ::tear:: and his balls have dropped  im sooo sad that hes growing up!! but he lifts his leg only outside- inside he still squats on his pee pads and i dont think he's marked inside yet [would i def know if he has???] is he marking when we go out or peeing?? im so freakin confused. i do plan on neutering him, but hes just so small right now still @ 7months hes only 2 lbs and im so scared hed die from the anesthesia or the operation itself. i know, i know im prob over reacting and gettin him neutered is in his best interest, im just super scared, and their arent any small dogs vets nearby that i know of. thanks in advance for those who attempt to answer my dumb question  |
Not a dumb question. If he is lifting his leg on every object he encounters, he is definitely marking. It is pee that they mark with. If he is doing it in the house you will notice yellowish brown spots on the carpet at the corners of you furniture and walls etc. Some don't mark inside, and some do. |
I'm so glad you asked, and looking forward to an answer! I have a tiny male that I don't plan on breeding also. He's only 4 months old, but he's still 1 lb. 5 oz. I'm extremely nervous about the whole neutering thing. I've read so many horror stories about how people sent their healthy yorkie in for surgery, only to have them never wake up! That would be such a nightmare! I've started looking for a local vet who has worked on tiny yorkies or other tiny breeds. Haven't found oneyet. But my breeder is helping me look. If anyone has advice, I'm looking forward to it! BTW, we are in Buckley, WA and my baby is Joey. It's my first time posting. Thanks! |
Yes, marking is when they actually pee on something. When he hikes his leg & pees on a tree that is him marking that tree. |
Yes it is, here's a link to marking. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Con...P=A&A=1117&S=1 :2hearts2: |

Hey, there are no dumb questions!!!! If we don't ask questions, we can't learn the answers. I'll bet your not the only one who didn't know ;) I know I didn't, I asked our Vet :) I think you are right on waiting, because he is very small. I would talk to your Vet and ask him when would be the best time. Have a great day!!! :2hearts2: |
You know somethings going on when you take your little pup outside, and he lifts his leg 10 times and pees 10 times in 10 minutes -- right! But - I still think the first time might be because they just plain have to "pee." Carol Jean |

hahaha i was like maybe he has a UTI- how the heck can he have to pee at every tree, bush, fence we pass?? thank god for YT. my vet would be rich... |
And I've heard they don't mark at all or as much after they're neutered. Well my bichon/poodle mix was neutered young about 4 months and marks like a bull when we go for walks. I wonder what's up with that?? |
My neighbor has a chocolate lab, and he marks as SOON as we come outside as he sees us. He marks on the left and right side of the fence! (There's a separation in the fence because we live in a duplex.) Not only that, he's not fixed so his testicles hang low and they look like a human's. Needless to say...that repulses me. LOL Man does that dog have big :moon: :moon: |

Our vet told us that they are marking to let other dogs know they were there. He calls it reading the mail. :p :p :p BabyFidgette: You are way too funny!!!!!! :moon: :moon: :yelrotflm |
Most definitely pee. When he lifts his leg he is marking his territory. |
Well my little spayed female squats and "marks" her way through the park. |
