She's home..She has to take med for seizures tomorrow and the i'm supposed to call the vet to see if she wants her to take anymore..IF she has another seizure she will be on it for life. She is also on antibiotics. The vet doesn't know what triggered the seizure but she said she thinks the seizure is what caused her to have a 106 temp. She is still a little drowsy..but eating good. I am going to fix her. She doens't need to have anymore pups..plus there is a chance that nursing the pups could of took too much out of her and helped bring on the c-section..I don't know for sure but not taking the chance. That and to me she isn't good for breeding. So she will forever be my lap dog. For those of you that want to breed. I want to say something. I almost lost my dog and granted it may not of been from breeding her but it could of played a part in it. Plus I have spent more money than I made. She had to have a c-section done in the middle of the night..she almost got eclampsia..she had a seizure plus normal vet bills..I also want you to think about something. They say don't breed your pets. I didn't..I bought tasha to breed her and I can tell you this. It didn't hurt any less and wasn't any easier almost losing her. YOu have to be prepared for the worst and know that if it does happen it is still just as painful. Just a little food for though.. Thank you everyone for caring. I want you all to know I"m here for you as well..Big Big Big HUG TO YOU ALL.. :D |

your words are heart felt!!! |
Hang in there. You know there are tons of prayers coming your way. Perhaps it wasn't really a seizure but convulsions brought about by the fever. But then, what do I know. I just lost my Reggie who just wasn't quite up to par. |
No they were def seizures she had them for two hours after we got to the vets and the vet said the seizures brought on the fever..but she's doing really good now..I wish reggie were still here for you. I"m sorry for you and your husband. |
I am so glad she is better and able to come home. Just watch her really carefully. I had an American Bulldog who had a litter of pups and on day three had seizures due to a calcium deficiency. I rushed her to the vet and got her on calcium and she was better. Then a few days later she started going downhill again. She barely moved on the way to the vet, she could not walk...I was afraid I was going to lose her before I got her to the vet. Turns out she had mastititis in one breast and had a very high fever. Seems that when they go bad, they go downhill very fast They gave her a shot and she was immediately better. We had to milk that breast to get all the infection out and believe me, it was a lot! I have never seen such a sick dog in all my life and it came on her so suddenly. I totally agree with you that you are taking a huge risk when you breed dogs. In my opinion and from my experience, if you feed premium food, vet your dogs and provide excellent living conditions you don't make any money breeding dogs and raising puppies. There is just more involved in it than most people see. I am not saying that no one should breed...how else do we get our babies if no one is raising them...all I am saying is that a whole lot of thought should go into it, a lot of homework should be done before it and a whole lot of testing should be done to insure that the breeding will produce better than the parents...and that those pups will be the healthiest because the parents were proven worthy to breed. JMHO...hope I did not offend anyone. |
Thats what stumped the vet..she had been tested for her liver and all and it was fine..although she did test her for all again last night. She didn't have mastitis..all of her tests came out great. There was no reason for her to do this. And she didn't just have a seizure and it stop..she had them back to back with no let up. The vet said we may never know why. She said it's really hard to always pin point why they have them. But she said she could have just this one and never have another or she could have them the rest of her life. What is upsetting to me is I did do my homework and I planned. then when she turned two I bred her for the first time. Doing everything the way I was supposed to and everything has done nothing but go wrong for me. But I know these things happen. I just wish it hadn't all happened at once and all with tasha..bless her heart. |
I am so happy that Tasha is on the mend! Quote:
All the best to you! You sure have had a rough day! |
I just read this thread (don't know how I missed it before). I'm so glad that Tasha's home, and will definately add you both to my prayers... This may sound stupid, but infants and young children often have seizures BECAUSE of a high fever...you said her fever was 106...could she have been sick (virus, etc.) and the fever been the cause of the seizure, rather than the other way around? I know this happens in people, not sure about dogs... |

I'm so glad to hear Tasha's home with you and feeling better. What a horrible night you had! I have a feeling you won't get any rest tonight either.. |
I know i'm not explaining this very well sorry. I'll try again. If something was going on inside that would cause a fever then yes a high fever can throw her into seizures. But in her case she had nothing wrong. She didn't run a fever until after you had the seizures for awhile. Since they were so severe and lasted so long it's cause her body temp to raise to a dangerous level. That's the best I can explain it. I hope that makes sense. She got her fever to drop as soon as she got the seizures to start to stop and it never came back. If something else were wrong it would of took longer to get rid of her fever and it would and could of came back. Do you see what i'm saying..i know it doesn't make a whole lot of sense lol..It's almost like when you go into shock it makes your body do things it wouldn't if you weren't in shock.. She is still doing good though. Her puppies were sooo happy to see her. |
You are in my Thoughts and prayers . Hugs |
