| YES! There are cases today of puppy mills or even "hobby breeders" that are breeding Silkies and registering them as Yorkies, or CROSSING the two and registering the litter as Yorkies (for example, you have a male Yorkie that has passed away at age 4. You come across a Silky that is about the same age and isn't a very good looking Silky, in fact he quite small for the breed and more square. So you breed him to your female registered Yorkie thinking, "No one will know, even if they come to look at my stud, he's small enough to pass off as a Yorkie." and so you register the litter using the AKC ID number of your decesed 4 year old male Yorkie and when people come around, just say he's him. Does that make sense?) - Terrible, but it happens WAY more often than many would like to admit! The best way to avoid being duped? Do your homework! And don't continue the vicious cycle yourself. |

| This thread reminds me of a story~ One day my neighbor and I are outside, she has 2 Yorkies, one is 3.5 pounds and silver coloring, and she has a 5 pound almost white/silver coloring and I have Bailey who's back is still black and he's 10 pounds,,and this womans walks up all excited looking at her dogs " Oh I love Yorkies they are so cute" ewwing and ahhing, and did not even acknowledge Bailey, she walked away and I said " What's he chopped Liver?" We laughed, but poor Bailey..

| "If all of these deceitful practices are occuring as you say, then AKC is not really as reliable as most people think. In fact, with time, if this trend continues then AKC will be meaningless in my opinion or not hold as much weight as is currently does." It all depends on who's next in line to take over as the AKC's leader and what he/she will do w/ it. As for now, it's the ever aforementioned "politics" and then some. I'd personally like to see it go back to the way it once was w/ new age technologies of course! |
