AAaahhhHHH! I thought it would stop! Last Thursday my 5 month old chewie got neutered. He's doing really well. So well, he's back to his old ways. He started humping again! It was a major problem before and I heard it should stop. It hasn't!!! Its very embarassing in public! He does it ALL the time. And his "little red thing" comes out! Nasty! What can I do? Will it stop? |
He probably still have testosterone in his system. Testosterone can stay in the dog's system for a couple of months after neutering. Humping can be habit forming so try stopping/distracting from doing the act. Hopefully, when the testosterone is gone from his system he will stop humping. |
Humping can be habit forming I could see that on a bumper sticker. ROFL |

Too funny!!! Hey I would buy one of those bumper stickers!! The humping thing is driving me nuts too. Seems to get worse by the day. Thankfully I have not seen any little red thing yet!! |
Humping Tooooo funny! At least the red thingy on yorkies are little! I could not handle the red thingy on a big dog. My little boy thought Bentley had cut himself the first time he saw it. Bentley went through the humping stage when he was a pup but we consistently said NO very sternly and now he only humps "Lassie", one of my son's stuffed dogs from Build-a-Bear. He's in love with Lassie. We keep Lassie in the closet as much as possible :D |
Oh Gosh, when I brought my peanut home from the vet, the first thing he done was crawl on my husbands foot and started humping. This little booger was humping when just a baby! BUT my husband also has always kinda picked at him. Honestly, we can not say FOOT around this dog. If this word is mentioned, those little ears perk up and he starts looking for husbands foot, I think he thinks that is his girlfriend. What is so bad is when people come over, Barry finds this humerous and ask if they would like to see Peanuts trick. Of course the red rocket appears and they think its funny! I honestly don't think he would have been so bad if he had not been instigated (spelling). Good Luck with that! Sonya |

:lol tears Oh man! you crack me up Itspupyluv. |
Bailey was fixed at 6 months and hes 9 months now and still "HUMPS" , but Luckily I have never witnessed the " red thing" , he is strange, it its cold out and we come inside from going potty,, he will race to the couch grab a pillow and GO AT IT!! Like the cold ges him all rilled up??!! But the worst part is he never even connects to the pillow,, I think its more the action, all the while he's growling and biting at the pillow,,then about 2 min's he's done! Just like a man! :p |
LMAO!!! You guys are too much!! Reminds of the scene from the movie Garden State!!!LOL! Too funny! Henfer was neutered very young and rarely humps but it is a "dominance" thing, so even females will hump occassionally. AS for the little "red rocket" just be glad it's a yorkie and not a great Dane!! LMAO!!! |

since we're on this topic, can I just say that I was mortified when I witnessed something that was a little more than Mason's "red rocket." Mason started humping my leg (strangely just me, no one else) a couple of months ago, and sometimes I just let him go at it (despite my roommate's expression of pure disgust) because I feel like it's a natural phenomenon. well anyway, one day I was letting Mason hump my leg and he started getting quite agressive and running out of his breath. I figured "well that's enough" so I picked Mason up.......and what did i see?? Mason's WHOLE penis including his testies were out of his body   I gasped and was speechless. IT was the craziest thing I had ever seen. Needless to say I scheduled an appointment for his alteration the next day :p |
This thread is headed in an unexpected direction!! Yippee!! I think the funniest name for the "little red thing" is what my friend called it...His LIPSTICK!! as in "He will not keep his lipstick in its tube!" I cannot use a tube of lipstick without smiling cause I think of that..LOL |
humping When Bitsy was in heat she would actually hump Bentley. It was so cute! When she was in the phase of the heat cycle that she would, as they say "stand" for the male dog, she would run in front of Bentley and turn around and put her back side (butt) right in front of his face and fan her long tail, she was like "hurry up already Bentley" , and Bentley would just stand there....like DUHHHH! I don't know what to do! Bitsy would get frustrated! It was one of the cutest things I have ever seen her do :p Bentley finally figured it out....we now have SIX pups :D |
Whispersmom...ty for that visual!!!!! :D |

My daughter's chiwowow (i know it's spelled wrong) does the humpy thing with a stuffed pig and his whole anatomy comes out too!! My god it's big for such a lil guy and he's fixed and has been for 6 months!! It takes a lil while for it all to ummm... deflate and while that's happening he acts sooo embarassed!!! |

 Im planning on getting a male. Do they all hump like that??? Is it a normal daily thing  |
Lily 24- My male does. Its a dominance thing. We have a stuffed animal that he humps all the time. He hasn't been neutered so I am hoping it will taper off then. |

I don't think it's avoidable regardless of the sex of the dog either becuse the females will do it ....they just don't have a "lipstick"!!!!! |
Bentley is almost 14 months old now and he hardly ever does it anymore. He never did really do it bad. We would just scold him sternly when he did do it when he was smaller and he'd quit. He hates to be scolded. I can't remember the last time I saw him do it, except for Lassie, and that is controlable cause we keep Lassie in the closet. I only saw Bitsy do it when she was in heat. I guess she was trying to use "role reversal" psychology because Bentley didn't know what to do :D |
Well, I'm not alone! Thanks for all the support. I see I'm not the lone hump. I just got home and the first thing chewie did was hump me. I guess I have to live w/that. Thanks :thumbs up |
My Rambo is a year and 2 months now. He does still hump but the lil red thing doesn't come out anymore. Although when he does try to hump my leg he tries to bite it. THe funny part is that he does try to hold my leg with all of his might. My boyfriend things that his humping is funny but if he does it to someone else i do get kind of embarressed. The good thing is that he doesn't do it as often as he use to do it. |
Meeko has not started doing that, but I'm not looking forward to it....... |
Luigi is a total horn dog!!! He would hump everything!!! Mainly stuffed animals, but every now and then he;ll hump the vaccum cleaner or the swiffer!! Its sooo funny! But when he had his stuffedkitty cat, he goes crazy. A few times, he had grabbed hold of it with his paws and goes to town. Sometimes he gets to the point where he will start hopping and he;ll flip over and end up on his back, all the while- he is still humping!! So he is humping while on his back!!! Quite a sight. Every now and then I think he scares himself cuz he gets sooo excited, and he'll actually yelp!! :) But its has been awhile since he has humped anything! And he is now nutered!!! Thank Goodness!!!! I have laughed sooo hard reading everybodies posts!!! Soooo funny!!!! :animal-sm Mandy & Luigi :animal-sm |
We have a similar problem with Elvis. So we stopped buying him toys large enough for him to 'train' with (just lots and lots of tiny cat toys). We also removed anything (blankets, pillows, small dog beds) that he could "train' with. Now we don't notice it happening anymore. He has never attempted to "train' on a human appendage. When we did see him train, we took the item away and told him 'no'. I agree that it is normal, but we try to diminish the possibilites of it occuring as much as possible by removing the 'trainee' |
When I joined this forum I didn't think I would laugh so much. I guess I do know where to draw the line because I'm not going to touch miezzi's post with a ten foot pole. LOL Btw, Luigi is so cute in your avatar. |
Very wise Erin!! |
It wasn't easy but I like it here too much to get thrown off. ;) |
