How did you pick your puppy's name? A few names have occured to me right off and I've found a few more I like from different Web sites, but I was wondering how everyone else went about choosing a name for their furbaby? So far my list is: Bullet, Mr. Big, Chip, Cubby, Kosmo, and Apollo. I think I need to get a feel for his personality before I can decide. What did you do when you were picking a name? |
I narrowed it down to 2 names, Lola and Coco Chanel. I waited till I met her to decide. I decided on Coco Chanel because that's my favorite designer and she just looked like a high fashion pup..lol |
I had Ginger for a week before I was finally able to settle on a name for her. I think it would have been easier naming a child! Lol. I checked through a lot of baby and dog name websites. Although, I got the name Ginger from the movie “Casino”. The names you have picked already are really cute. I like Mr. Big the best. :thumbup: |
Both of my girls' names come from Jimmy Buffet songs....we love him around our house and so it was an obvious choice and there are tons of songs to choose from!!! |
For some reason, I always wanted a long haired dog named Gypsy. Reminds me of the dog in the pound in Lady and the Tramp (though her name was Peg I think). Reminds me of a big flirt, which Gypsy is already. |
Megan had planned on calling her puppy Scamp but when we met Bandit he had black around his eyes, and he stole our hearts so that is where Bandit came from. When he died the vet who tried to save him, and helped us get the money back from the pet store was Dr. Tucker, that's is who Tucker is named after. |
I had a yorkie who was a lemon on 4 legs to put it mildly. When I got Pan, I went back to the story of Pandora's box. When she opened the box she let out all the troubles into the world. BUT hope was left in the box and I hoped she would be healthier than Skip had been. She was, because I kept her for almost 19 years. |
Henry because I've liked that name for awhile and Shepard named after actor/author Sam Shepard. And I thought a Yorkie should have a good English sounding name. |
I wanted to name him Finnegan and call him Finn, but then I was watching Family Guy and realized that my new baby boy would be named after the little devil Stewie Griffin :) So his name is Stewart Finnegan XVII of Yorkshire (also an English sounding name :) ) |
I looked at the internet lists of names for dogs and dint find one i wanted. Thr Happy Days reunion show was on and there is a character named Chachi we liked that name so we named our male Chachi. My daughter named our female. Our breeder had a dog named Jules and that is what Alexa Rae decided she wanted to name her so we named our female Jewels. |
Ollie was my dad's nickname, and I just like it. I have names for two more Cachi and Harly, because I just like those names also. |
Here is Keeley's full name and why... Warren "Keeley" Las Vegas Warren- The city where he was born (back in MI). "Keeley"- After a good friend who passed away a year and a half ago. He was a HUGE dog lover and we really miss him. Keeley was his last name and what he wen't by. (and what we call our little man). Las Vegas Where we were the night he was born, a place we love to play and we feel we won the "jakpot" getting him. |
;) Well, once the breeder that I purchased her from sent me a pic of her she looked just like a little baby and I always wanted a little girl of my own. So I put the two together and called her "Babe Girl" I was going to change it to " Reece" since her colors are like a reece cup but she already had started to respond to babe girl so I kept it... :D |

my 18mo son picked ours I had about 5 names, took polls asked everyone, kept calling her each one. Then one day my non talking 18mo son started running around the house saying Trix-eee. I guess he knew! |
I had a dog when I was younger and his name was George, he was named after my uncle in Michigan where we got him from. Then my Yorkie boy comes along and I wanted to name him George since my George when I was little was my best pal:) Now George #2 is my best pal and the love of my life :D I will be getting another baby this summer (fingers crossed) and his name will be Ben (after the Pittsburgh Steelers QB, I am huge Steelers fan) :D |

Well i let my Mom pick Rosi's name, because because Mom and i came from Germany and she was not realy an animal lover till she saw her and she goes : She looks like a Rosi not Rosie, thats how they spell it over in Germany, i didn have the heart to call her something else, she has been in love with her ever since ! |
I picked the name Lavinia Hyacynth because I liked the idea of a very BIG name for such a little dog....I call her Vivi as a nickname for Lavinia :) |
Our furbabies are named after alchoholic drinks. Bailey (Bailey's and coffee) Morgan (Captain Morgain). Funny thing is both of us drink very little. I wanted to name Morgan Brandi but being that is my best friends name I didn't think it was appropriate. |
I went over a ton of names in my head and then Oscar just popped into my mind and BAM! That was his name...he looked like an Oscar too! Of the names you have listed, I like Mr. Big...call him Biggy!!! Hope you enjoy your baby!!! |
The breeder sent me a picture of her, and I just knew...Gracie! It was not until later that I remembered the movie "Love Stinks". Her cat; Grrrr-a-cieee (if you've seen the movie, you know). lol |
I also went through a TONS of websites and baby names. I wanted to name her Marcel, after Ross' monkey in Friends. My brother insisted I couldn't because it's a boy's name. After several family polls, Marcel was dropped (that's okay...a second yorkie is on the way ;) His name is Marcel). Finally decided on Aggie, after my alma mater, UC Davis Aggies. |
Since Simon was an accident I had never thought about puppy names but once I met him I learned his little personality and originally named him Emmitt after Emmitt Otter's Jugband Christmas but that didn't really fit him so I named him Simon after Simon Cowell since they both talk smack a lot (haha). His full name is Simon Samuel Emmitt Foore (obviously NOT a registered name). When I got Hallie she was 2.5 and I considered changing her name to Sadie but figured she had been through enough so her name is Hallie Ann Sadie Foore :) |
I got on the internet and looked under Yorkshire names - I found "Emma" and that was my mom's middle name (she is deceased). I knew she would love it that I named my puppy after her, and mom's maiden name was Simon so our little girl became Emma Simone and I call her Emmie. When our next little girl came along I went back to the internet Yorkshire names and found Isabella. One of my favorite shows is Grey's Anatomy and their Isabella goes by Izzie so our Isabella became Izzy B. (we changed the ie to a y.) So, we have an Emmie and an Izzy B. and sometimes they get called by each other's names but that is okay!! I know who I mean!!! ;) Barbara |
I got Parker from a lady who lived in Parker City, Indiana so we called him Parker.... I also liked the name Peanut. but we decided on Parker. My husband wanted us to call him biscuit. He lost!!! I love Greys Anatomy too!!! |
Cali got her name after an amazing vacation to California I took with my boyfriend this past summer for my birthday..and since Im getting her from my boyfriends mom it all works! I still haven't decided on her AKC name yet, though..something along the lines of Sweet California Dreamin.. :) |
Same here, the name just comes to you because,you like it, something they do or their personality. I have to think about it until it just comes to me! '>))) Maybe some name based on a theme. |
I picked the name Reuger because a ruger is the name of a gun and I thought that my husband would get a kick out of it and I figured that if he wasn't going to be big he could at least have a name that sounded like it. Like if I were to call him over to me people might be expecting a rotweiler with a name Reuger, not a yorkshire terrier. His full name is "Diana's Nine MM Reuger". (The MM stands for milimeter.) My husband just loved it! |
i have kids so i wanted it to be a "kid friendly" name and something real cute too... that and she LOOKS like a snickers bar... :) |
