Hello,

I am wondering at what age Yorkie stop growing? I am looking at a 6 month old yorkie female... she weighs 7 pounds... do you think she will get much bigger?

see picture!!

bugaboosmom 03-22-2006 07:21 AM

Most of her growing has finished.

chachi 03-22-2006 07:22 AM

She will probably get a lb or so bigger. Thats what mine did anyway

hle_625 03-22-2006 07:25 AM

I dont think that she will grow that much more! I would say no more than a lb or so! She is a doll!

Princessyorkies 03-22-2006 07:27 AM

It has been my experience that they are about done at 8 months.

yorkiemomwannaB 03-22-2006 07:52 AM

I'll leave that up to the experts. I do wish I had a bigger girl though. If I ever get another female Yorkie I hope she weighs at least 6 or 7 pounds!

LaughinGoose 03-22-2006 07:54 AM

How big is she?

How big is your girl?

I have a 3pound at 17 weeks already... I hope she will get at least to 6 pounds!!!

My2Furbabies 03-22-2006 08:33 AM

I don't think she will get much bigger either! But what a cute picture of her! I think she is soooo adorable! I hope you get her! :woof:

LaughinGoose 03-22-2006 08:39 AM

I sooo hope I get her!!!

I really hope to get her also!!!!

But the lady is taking time to verify all possible parents... a good thing I think!!!

yorkiemomwannaB 03-22-2006 08:41 AM

My girl is three pounds at almost one year old. She's a tiny little thing!

txshopper73 03-22-2006 08:42 AM

Height and length wise, she should be about finished. But she had still continue to gain weight. I'd say she'll be between 7 1/2 - 9 lbs.

ceeby has not grown any since he was seven months old. he is now eight months old and weighs the same. My question to you is, do they "fill out' any after this age. He is so thin I can feel every bone in his body. I think his coat is also thin but others say it is beautiful. He eats well and I feed one fourth can wet ceser's plus half an egg twice a day. I leave his dry food down to free feed all the time and he enjoys this as well. To me he looks malnourished and I am concerned. he weighs 3.9 but I think he needs at least another pound of flesh on him. What do you think. he is really, really thin.

Hello,
I hope you don't think this is a dumb question but why is it important to have them weigh so much? .

I don't think that 5.5 or 6pounds is so much. It's a preference I guess. Mine is so tiny and fragile... I always thought that a little bigger meant a little stronger.

My personal preference for a yorkie is a little bigger... that's all.

The next yorkie I will get will be a little bigger.

p.s. I also don't think there is dumb questions!!!! :D

Muireann 03-22-2006 12:39 PM

thank-you! My Poppy is 1.65lbs and she is a good eater but I am panicked that if I don't fatten her up more then she will be more susceptible to getting sick and too small to be microchipped and too small to have puppies and things like that!

This is my second yorkie. My first was when I was a child so as I remember she was tiny too and I guess I figured that all yorkies were the same size.... :scratchhe

LaughinGoose 03-22-2006 12:42 PM

Wow!!!!

How old is she???

Wow she is tiny . . . I bet she is sooooo precious. Why would you think of getting a bigger one next time? What is wrong with tiny yorkies such as the one you have?

It's so funny for you to say because it's just how I feel but it is hard to really express that to other people who are not dog lovers...because I think they think I am abit nutty!! I work in a playschool though so I get to tell my children all about her antics and well sure they are a great audience and think everything is awesome!!!

Believe me - 5 or 6 pounds is not a "big Yorkie." In fact, that is exactly what they should weigh - give or take a pound.

My little 7-month old boy weighs 8 lbs 2 oz. He is the perfect weight for me. I can easily lift and bath him. He can get off and on all the furniture in the house without hurting himself or my having to worry. He is an awesome eater and has been perfectly healthy every minute since I brought him home.

I can take him outside and not have to worry about him. He can definitely hold his own with any dog regardless of their size (but then - he could do that when he was 8 weeks old). I have adjoining back yards with my neighbors and he runs and visits them and their dogs every day.

We have hawks here - and his weighing only a few extra pounds makes my yard a lot safer for him.

I personally think that even an 8-pound dog is a very small little dog.

For the poster who ask - these are some of the reasons we like a few extra pounds on our Yorkies. And, yes, I think a 5 or 6 pound Yorkie is perfect too.

I have a 3 1/2 lb pup at nearly 5 months! Hoping she keeps growing a bit longer-she is very little. I love her heaps, though!

diva pup 03-23-2006 04:43 AM

Honestly I am beginning to wonder if the larger yorkies grow and fill in a bit longer than the tiny ones.
My Rio weighed 3 lbs at 3 mths. 6 lbs at 6 mths and finished up at 9 +at 3 yrs old!!

Hi, i have a beautiful girl (chanel), she's 14 months and weight 3.5 pounds... How much do you guys think she's going to gain... How much weight you yorkie gain after 1 year and 2 months?

Thank you!

djackson59 07-30-2015 12:46 PM

Hi I don't know the answer but would love to know also. I have a little girl that will be a year old in less than a week, she weighs 4 1/2 lbs.

solivas91 07-30-2015 02:02 PM

My lil 12 week old Dexter is already 4.6 lbs! His mom is 5 lbs and dad is 3 lbs. How could he be this big already?! The breeder said he should stop growing at 16 weeks. But I find that very hard to believe.

yavenay 07-31-2015 05:39 AM

7lbs is really not that big. My Duchess is a little over 7 lbs and people are always saying how small she is. I had a yorkie that was only around 4 lbs and I constantly worried about her breaking a bone when she jumped off furniture. My house had steps for all of the couches and the bed. Because she was smaller, she was a little more fragile.

Now I have a tomboy who loves to play roughhouse and thinks she is 70 lbs. I love it. I guess with anything, small or larger, they have their pluses and minuses.

djackson59 07-31-2015 12:13 PM

Hi I was looking back at my records and my little girl weighed 2 lbs at 12 1/2 weeks. She is now almost 1 year, on the 3rd of Aug. and she weighs 4 1/2 lbs. So she is a little over double what she was at 12 weeks. The charts showed her adult weight to be 3 1/2 lbs, I am so glad that she is bigger than they said. She scared me when she was smaller, she hurt herself just going down her little stairs to get on and off the couch. She will come up the stairs now but still won't go down, I'm sure she is afraid of getting hurt on them again. But the bad thing is that she jumps like a deer, off and on the couch and will not use the stairs at all. She only uses the stairs to get onto the bed but will wait until I come to get her down. I would think that if your baby is anything like mine he might double in size. Almost forgot my baby stopped growing at about 8 months. I think she might gain a little weight still but I think her height and length will stay the same. I also have a 10 lbs maltese boy and I think he is a little safer than my baby girl is, I'm always afraid she will get stepped on. So I think you might be happy with a little bit bigger baby.
