| New baby arriving tonight!! Hi everyone! I've been reading here for a few weeks preparing for the arrival of my new baby and finally decided to pop in and introduce myself. I live in Tucson Arizona and my bundle of joy is coming home tonight. We named him Chibi. I am an avid dog lover and have had a German Shepherd and Rottweiler growing up. Now that i'm married ( in December) and living in an appartement we decided to go for smaller dogs which are more convenient for appartment living. I had a Shih Tzu a few weeks ago but it turns out she had a congenital condition (persistant right atrium arch) which started to show 5 days after she moved in with us. She started to lose her strength and deteriorated fast, after several consultations and the vets recommendations we decided to put her to sleep. She was only 14 weeks. Needless to say my husband and I were devastated. I was looking into finding another Shih Tzu when I met a friend who has a 12 year old Yorkie and I simply fell in love with the little one. I did lots of reasearch and finally decided to have one. After the last experience with small dogs I am kind of weary about the sort of congenital health problems that they may develop and wonder if there is any major tests that I shall consider on his first trip to the vet, tomorrow evening. Also, since Chloe had just left us, I have saved her toys as well as her crate and blankets. Is it necessary to buy new bedding/crate/toys to make them his own or is it fine to use the same ones? Thank you for your time and I would really appreciate some feed back. Maybe I am worrying over nothing because I do trust the breeder but I have to admit that I am traumatized by my last experience. Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Welcome Dana, and congratulations on Chibi. You won't be sorry. As you have undoubtedly figured out by now, Yorkie owners are nuts about their pups. Being a big-dog lover, you'll appreciate the Yorkie spunk. They really are big dogs in little dogs' clothing, uh, fur. I wouldn't worry about getting new bedding or toys. Some of my guys' favorite toys are hand-me-downs. If anything, the scent of another dog might be welcome. I can't wait to see pictures of Chibi.

| Thank you for your replies. We can't wait to meet the little fella and once he's settled in I shall definately be posting his picture and thanks for the offer because I think I may need help! As for the name Chibi, well after days and days of searching I found what I thought was a perfect name since it means "tiny" in Japanese and it just sounds so cute. |

Welcome and congrats on your new baby. I'm so sorry to hear about your Shih Tzu. I just had to have our 15 year old shih tzu put to sleep a couple of months ago. Like everyone else has said you made a great choice in the yorkie. I can't imagine ever being without one again.
