Help!New and need some advice :) :animal36 :)Let me start off my saying good morning to everyone.GOOD MORNING!!!!! Well, I am probably the newest member to this site and man do I wish I would have found it earlier. Let me just introduce myself by saying that I am a Navy sailor stationed in Maryland. I am a mother of three beautiful children, married and already have a 5 year old chihuahua(he's hawaiian). Anyway, my whole point in writing this is that my birthday is shortly coming up in April and about December time frame I told my husband that I really wanted a yorkie. I can honestly tell you that for the last 4 months I've been looking everywhere, online and locally. Seems like no one really has the little baby I'm looking for. Well, I finally run into "Yorkiepup.com"(everyone's favorite from what I gather)(Sarcasm)about late December. He has the cutest little puppies and they look like exactly what I want. Sure 1500 is a lot to spend on a dog, but I don't mind if that's what I want. Well, I start sending him emails in January asking questions,I wanted more pictures(which I did get),asked how far he is from Dallas (cause there is no way I'm letting him put that little one in cargo)I'm also originally from Dallas.First impression,he's very straight to the point and does'nt like to conversate much. I continue to watch his site. Maybe about 3 weeks later from my initial email, I write to him asking if it would be ok for my mother to pick a puppy up for me so that I can fly her here with the puppy. He responds saying that's fine. Well finally we get to earlier this month. I have a date (24Mar06) I'm going to fly my mother up with the puppy, so I call him (first time I actually speak to him on the phone) and man I felt like he just had no time to answer my questions. I felt like I was rushed and he told me the same thing I've read in this forum, that he had 1200 females, that he does'nt discuss puppies that are not on the website and that all he needed was a credit card and he could have the pup ready to fly out with my mom the same day. I'm suppose to be buying a puppy next week However, I had my husband call him today to once again go over my plans since this is suppose to happen next week. I never told him my opinion of the guy cause I know what he would say "Don't buy a puppy from him" It was no surpise when my husband called me back at work and told me the guy was an (left blank intentionally)!!! When he asked if he would come down on the price he said sure, then you can getter a bigger dog!!! I don't know what I should do. My husband said we can put a deposit down tomorrow, but you know how that goes.NON-REFUNDABLE. I feel like I really like the puppies he has on his site. He has'nt had any complaints with BBB and all the posts that I find are all hearsay.I wish I could hear from someone that has actually experienced him one on one. I'm not denying that conversating with him has not been pleasant and I feel that being that I am a potential customer of his, the communication should be better than this. Also, thing that did bother was the fact that I noticed two pups from his toy and standard page are now on the teacup page and the price for them has doubled. I can use some advice and some recommendations. The best thing for me is that if all the rumors are true, atleast I can take one out of that situation and give it lots of love. :)Let me start off my saying good morning to everyone.GOOD MORNING!!!!! Do not under any circumstances send this man money...There are plenty of people on here that can give you firsthand accounts of problems. He is notorious. You will not be 'rescuing' a pup by putting money in his pocket. Take the time to find a reputable breeder that you feel comfortable talking with. Whispersmom (Rini) on here is a wonderful breeder in MD and will be glad to help you. You can pm her for info. Best of luck in your search. |
It may be of interest before you give Jeff Dane your money to read this post here on YT I have provided. This member is struggling to keep two of his puppies alive right now! hope this helps http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31348 good luck! |
Welcome! If I were you I would not put a deposit on a pup from there. No way, no how. Sorry :( I am in Pa as are a couple others here (also NJ and MD) and I am sure someone can help you find a pup that will closer to you, healthy and cute. You can PM me if you like. You can of course go ahead and I wish you luck. I just think you should put more stock into some of the "hearsay". |
Welcome! I hope you like this forum and come here for any questions you may have. I honestly think you are making the wrong decision. You could get a wonderful beautiful great quality puppy elsewhere for the price that you are going to pay for that puppy. There have been many bad experiences brought about with this particular breeder. After being warned if you still walk into this adoption you are basically asking for trouble and heart break with a little one from that site. With all this being said best of luck on what ever your decionsion is. :animal36 |
Hello and Welcome to YT! I would be very careful before sending a non-refundable deposit. I have not dealt with this person. Maybe someone on YT has. Just do not rush into anything. Finding a new addition to your family should be well thought out. JMO |
Run, don't walk away from this guy. If you use the search link on YT and type in Jeff Dane you will read many sad stories of sick Yorkies he has sold to people. As sad as it is, you won't be rescuing a dog from him but just making him richer and you poorer. |
I purchased my two pups, Zowie and Bronx from Jeff Dane. I live just NE of Dallas and drove to his place near Paris TX. He has a lovely home and was a very nice person. We spent a couple of hours there and had a great time. This was over 2 years ago, and I think most of what I have ever seen is hear-say. The post mentioned above is the first time I have ever read a first hand account of a problem. Our two dogs are very healthy, very beautiful. They had a litter of puppies last May which are all healthy, great temperament dogs (I kept them all). One of our dogs was raised in Jeff's kennel, the other was by one of his breeders. At the time, he owned 2 kennels in addition to his own which he runs with his family, wife son and daughter, and helper. He had about 120 of his own dogs that run around his place and are guarded by some bigger dogs - to keep the coyote's away. As much as people bad mouth him, I have never heard of any of them going to visit to see how nice his place really is. I think he has got a bad rap, is tired of having people run him down and really doesn't have to put up with it because he has a thriving business. His dogs are 100% guaranteed. If your mother goes up there (about 2 hours), I think she will find him much more pleasant that he is on the phone. I am guessing the way some of these people are that they call and harass him all of the time and still have no real issue. That is my opinion. As I said, it has been a little more than two years since I was there. He has a great personality, is very friendly. That is my opinion which I usually keep to myself because they don't like to hear it. But I had an agreement with a friend on here that I wouldn't say anything good about him if she didn't say anything bad; and she broke her word! |
yorkiepup.com If you want to pm me, that would be fine. I also wanted to say that when a dog stays smaller, that causes the price to go up. My baby girl, I guessed she would be 4-5 pounds and she is three, her sister (who was smaller at birth) grew to a healthy 6 pounds. Zowie is 8 pounds and Bronx is 6. They were both the $750 puppies who were guessed to be larger than 4# (I think). I think they were 3# and 2# at 10 weeks when we got them. I know it seems rude, but I am sure if you put money down, his attitude will improve; as like I said, I am sure he has to put up with a lot of garbage calls and has done this for, I believe, more than 20 years - long before yorkies were so popular. |
Wishing you good luck finding the precious pup for you! :animal-pa |

Great responses Thank you all for posting and offering your knowledge on the breeder. |
hi i am going to pm you with some info that might be helpful in researching this person... good luck but i would do your homework first i have heard bad things on several sites about him not just this one when doing research on my own puppy... good luck to you i hope my email helps you in ur decision or at least help you make an informed one |
oh i did want to add that i have no personal experience with this breeder so i cant knowingly say anything bad or good - that is why i sent you the info i did - its just a way to research people you may want to get a puppy from and its a lil more objective good luck i hope you got it and check into it on your own - i have learned the hard way what NOT researching where you get ur puppy from can land you i have 3 kids too and i know that i would have done things differently knowing some of the things and kind of people that are out there - this is why i offer the advice i know that kids get attached to a puppy and it would be hard if it ended up a sick one |
After joining this forum, I was told some negative information regarding Jeff Dane and yorkiepup.com. I also did a lot of searches on the web to find information about him. Almost 100% of the information is hear-say or speculation reguarding the dislike of his website. I have seen his website addressing this negativity since that time, but he refuses to bend to 'popular yorkie-people opinion.' He chooses to use the term 'teacup' which is highly disliked; although, when I was looking for my baby - I think my first search was for teacup yorkie. Maybe I was ignorant at the time, but I just wanted a little yorkie. The thing I have realized through my short life (46 years) is that when people are happy, you never hear from them. Only a person who is unhappy will squeal the loudest! Join PTA (or any volunteer organization) if you have never experienced this first-hand. If you realize the numbers Jeff has placed over the past 20+ years, you would realize that the # of negative comments, proportionally, are quite small. |
Welcome! I'm pretty new here too. From what I can tell, this guy is an absolute snake. Take the advice given above from all the experienced Yorkie moms. Also, trust your instincts. It's obvious that you are feeling uncomfortable about the whole thing. |
I am just dumb-founded by all this. I have been with this forum for almost a year. I have mostly kept my opinion to myself as I try not to be confrontational. I just do not see where all the animosity comes from. Is it jealousy? Or the fact that he refuses to conform? A lot of us live near there, he is border of Texas/Oklahoma. I have never seen even one person (besides myself) go to see his place. I am sure he would welcome you. I actually chose three puppies I wanted to see from his website, called ahead and drove up to see them. I did not put up a non-refundable deposit, we visited for a couple of hours, played with the puppies, talked to his children, were inside his house, saw another couple who had purchased a dog 8 months prior and came to pick up a sister for him (new pup). I found nothing shady about him at all, and I consider myself to be both a people person as well as a great judge of character. He is an open-honest person. I have no association with him other than this one-time visit and purchase; yet those of you with less knowledge slam him like a step-child. I just do not understand. |

If you took the time to read all the threads about Jeff Dane you would see that many people have had problems with this breeder and if you went to his website you will see he is selling one for $10,000...don't you think that is a little greedy. I am glad your friends dog is beautiful and well mannered and I am especially glad if it didn't come to her sick or have genetic health issues. Not everyone has been so lucky. IMHO there are much better breeders out there and for less $$$ than this guy is charging. I am allowed to post my opinion on YT and what you are not allowed to do is attack someone for their opinion. :thumbdown |
When you buy from a breeder/broker that has that many dogs, how do you even know you are getting the same dog that you saw on the website. If he has that many dogs, he cannot possibly know anything about the individual pups. And he does not stand behind them if they develop health problems. There are certain to be people who have ended uip with nice healthy dogs. Odds are there are more good ones then bad ones. But it's a gamble, and I wouldn't buy from anyone who did not personally know the puppy and it's parents. He can tell you anything he wants about the dog, but I assure you he can't possibly know anything about it. There are a lot of yorkies out there. There are people on this forum that have puppies. |
I am sorry, but I totally disagree. Not only do I know the dogs I saw when I got to Jeff's were the ones on the website; I have those baby pictures printed and in frames in my dog's room. Yorkies have many different looks; I can still identify pups that favor mine. I have six dogs and know each one's personality. Some breeders on here track all their babies and know their names. I am telling you, Jeff has a true love for these dogs, and you would see that if you visited his home. Everyone gets so hung up on the price of this one supposedly $10,000 or $25,000 dog - does he produce and sell these regularly? I don't really think so. I will have to revisit the site to see if it is really there, and how long he has had it. I purchased my two for a VERY reasonable $750/ea. I find his prices similar to less than most. I am afraid that jealousy is the key here. I wish I could afford to spend $10,000 per year just to GIVE yorkies away (at below cost to me) as some of you seem to do. |
livingdustmops...You hit the nail on the head..... I cant understand why anyone would attack another just for airing there opinion.. We are all yorkie lovers here, or else why would we be here.. Everyone has an opinion.!!! And just because someone else does not like that opinion does not mean that they should attack the other. We can all give our advise and our opinion, but noone has to take that advise or opinion. This is a yorkie talk forum, NOT a Im better than you forum. Lets all just chill out, take a deep breath and think about what we are saying before we type. PLEASE !!!! and thanks for letting me air my opinion.... :) :) |
2 Attachment(s) These are Zowie & Bronx from the website (over 2 years ago), of course, I still think they are adorable. I could see their little faces in the babies when they were little as well. To some, each yorkie has a face of their own. They do not 'all look alike.' |
livingdustmops..I'm soo sorry your baby went through what he did. I think it is wonderful what you are doing. I too have done alot of rescue..it's rewarding and heartbreaking. Unless people experience it first hand they have no idea the pain and heartbreak you see by looking into an abused animals eyes. It's something you never get over and never get used to. Beautiful you betcha nothing is more appealing than seeing a pet show it's first sparkle in a set of eyes that have known pain for so long. I had to fight to keep from crying when I read your post cause i like you know what its like to have a rescue pet. It's an emotinal roller coaster..some good some very upsetting. I can't tell you enough what a wonderful person I think you are for doing what you do. I'm not sure if you get told this enough..but thank you. |

It's hard..I think sometimes we all lose sight of whats really important. It's easy to do in this day and age. It takes all of us to help everyone and everything. Some help people some help animals and some help themselves lol..but I guess it takes us all to make this world go round. |
livingdustmops and tashasmom, i just want to tell you great job for being involved with rescues. when i have the chance, i want to help as many as i can. we've already rescued one and i love him to death. without rescue organizations my baby wouldn't be here. i do not know about this breeder, but before you buy, just do all your research and go with your instincts. if you have bad feelings about your conversations with him there are many other breeders out there, and from what i have heard, he has plenty of business anyway. |

I got so wrapped up in livingdustmops post I forgot what started this thread lol..so when I read your post i was confused..I had to go back to the beginning to read the initial post..lol I agree with doing your research and it's your pet so whichever breeder u decide to go with you are the one getting the puppy and none or many problems with it. Good luck.. |
News!!! Well, yorkie lovers..thank you all for you comments again. I can say now that I have decided on what to do. I was looking through the message boards here and fell in love with the cutest little angel. I'm sure some of you have seen her in the for sale forum. Well, her family in New York have proven to be great people. My husband has been talking to them and everything has been extremely pleasant. I can honestly say that as far as Jeff Dane goes. I'm pretty sure that as Laura said...those that are happy generally never say anything. I just thought about it a lot and said that if I'm going to pay that much money, my experience better be good from beginning to end. I just feel like money talks with him and I really don't like to do business with that kind of person. I'm not saying he's a bad person, I just rather deal with a nicer person. :aimeeyork |
I'm glad you have found your baby! And I'm glad you went with your instincts so that this experience is as great as possible for you! |
[QUOTE=piscesbaby] I was looking through the message boards here and fell in love with the cutest little angel. Hi, Ahhhhhhhhh sounds like you have found your little yorkie, I wish you the best. What are you going to name it, are you getting female or male. This is such a great site and know you will find it so helpful. Look forward to seeing picture of your little one. We had a very pleasant communication with the breeder that we got Baby Blessing from and it just made the transaction much better which is as it should be. Getting a yorkie is a forever friend to the family and it should be sheer joy all the way around. Have fun with your new baby. Patti, Jack and ~~Baby Blessing~~ |
