The only place that I take Chloe or Daisy is to places that they are aloud! I would never sneak them into a place! I think its really rude! There was a lady at Walmart the other day when I was walking in the door that was holding a little bitty puppy that probably wasnt 5 weeks old and as soon as she walked in the door they asked her to leave. You want to know what this lady did she locked him in a crate and tied the crate to a bench at the front door! I couldnt believe it I wanted to smack the lady! |

OMG!! what does she think, the dog is like a bike?!?!? some people irk the crap outta me!! |
Wow...I don't take Vivi into restaurants or food stores but I do enjoy her company on other errands...she tends to attract attention because she is really friendly but that is not the reason I take her. She is very well behaved and I have only once been asked to leave. I wouldn't mind at all if everywhere I went everyone brought their dogs...Big and small...if and only if they were as well behaved as my dog. Vivi rarely barks, has never bitten anything and is only guilty of kissing too much. I hope to certify her soon as a therapy dog because of her wonderful disposition. I do not parade her around...she is with me because the two of us enjoy each others company.I know she enjoys the outings, too, because she sticks her head into her sweater and then jumps into her carrier on her own.If I felt she was going to cause a problem I would leave her at home and I have never had anyone complain of allergy issues. If I did I would certainly leave with my dog.Hopefully this will shed some light on why someone would take their dog out on errands.Oh and she is really small so most of the time she goes completely unnoticed. :) |
I take Maddie with me because she enjoys it and loves to get out of the house! All I have to do put on lipstick and touch up my makeup and she's standing there watching me, knowing that we'll be going somewhere. As soon as I'm done, she goes running for her carrier and can't jump in on her own because it is a soft one that collapses...but she tries like crazy to get in and makes all kinds of funny sounds because she's so excited at the thought of going. I've taken her in plenty of places where dogs are probably not allowed, but she stays in the carrier and loves to just watch what's going on around her. As far as attention, I don't get any because no one knows she's with me. As far as allergy issues, if Maddie has any dander, she would have to shake herself to get it to spread out into the store. She doesn't shake...just sits still and watches the goings on. Anyone with severe allergies should be wearing a mask in a store because there's a lot more things in the store they'd have reactions to than a dog, and as someone else said, these people go into these places knowing there could very well be people with service dogs in there. I take Maddie with me because it makes her happy to be with me and also makes me happy to know I'm making her happy. As far as the "big dog" issue, they can pee or poo on the floor, lift their legs on things or bite someone. Maddie does none of these things in the confines of her carrier. |
thanks everyone for the responses. I *really* wanted to know if it was separation anxiety on the dog's side or owner's side or whatever. I know I always rush to get home when I am away from Stewie because *I* am the one w/ the sep anxiety. Stewie gets anxiety when he's out and people are poking in his carrier, so we don't go to too many establishments together. We do go visiting homes though, and Stewie loves going to my friends and family's homes. |

Well as far as the allergy thing goes my mil is not allergic to alot of other things just dogs, even my preciuos yorkie. She gets very ill just being around them. I have to wash my hands before goingthere since I can't help but love on my dog every chance I get. So to say she should wear a mask is INSANE, she did'nt ask to be allergic to dogs. And if she shes a service dog she exits the store immediatly! As for the BIG DOG issue, my great dane is EXTREMLY well trained and would not potty or bite, she is 5 yrs old and the most wonderful dog I have ever had. We took her to obedience school as a pup and again as a young adult to keep here manners great and she gets groomed twice a week at our vets, so she is highly cleaned. I don't take either of my dogs with me because I don't feel its fair to take my dane because alot of people are afraid of a 160 lb dog, and people can be allergic. So I don't take the chance and I feel if Charlie can't go its not fair to take my yorkie Hannah. So I do not take my babies with me anywhere. |
Because I want to. Plus all of the things Connie said. |
I am a stay at home Mom to my babies so the few times I do have to run an errand I leave them at home. I have been tempted to take them to Petsmart, but am really worried about all they might be exposed to. I even don't like sitting in the vet's waiting room for the same reason. Once I took mine to Lowe's to look at the new flower arrivals. A little girl of about 4 or so fell in love with him. I let her hold him and she said "Can I take him to see my Mom" I followed her to show her Mommy who had a toddler in her arms. Then the little girl looked at me and said "Can I keep him?" I thought I was being clever by responding, "Ok, will you trade your little sister for him?" She started jumping up and down, "Mommy can we, can we, please, please I want this puppy!" I still laugh when I think about it. |

SpeaKing of separation anxiety, Sadie and I both have it big time. She is 3 1/2 years old, and I have had her ten mos. In those ten mos. she has barked about 20 times. Wrong! I decided to tape record her while I was gone, and she panted and barked non-stop. It is getting worse. Yesterday after I got her from the groomers, she just slumped in her car seat. So not like her. She looked half drugged. Last night was a disaster (posted on the sick Yorkie site), and I just got two hours of sleep. She shook continuously, and I was afraid she would have a seizure. Was upsets me is that I called my vet Monday, just trying to be prepared for an emergency in advance and was told that all I have to do is call the office, and my message will be forwarded to my vet, and he will call back immediately. I called the vet a 6a, and was told that he is not on call this weekend, and to go to another small town 20 miles away. No names of vets were given to me. I got lucky, I think, as we have one other vet in town and he works mornings only on Sats. When I asked him about emergencies, he said if there is no answer, to find whoever is available. He would not recommend anyone. Meantime, he takes her temp., which is fine. Said it was anxiety, and gave a med. to give her only before I leave for long periods of time, like 5 - 8 hours. It is called, "Homeopet Natures Natural Medicine - Anxiety". I am really concerned, as she is not well. Sleeps all the time, and not peppy at all. I called him back at 11:30a, as the office closes at noon, and told him I am concerned and will he be available tomorrow, if things get worse. He said we are taking off for a half day tomorrow. He said he is sure it is anxiety. I know this is windy, and prob. the wrong forum to ask, but does anyone have any experience with anxiety? Thanks. |
Look this is not an attempt to be rude, but i have noticed that several times you have stated quit strongly that your "mil" has horrible dog allergies and that they are devestating. so i guess the question is why do you even have dogs. if she can under no uncertain terms be near a dog (walk past one in a carrier in some store or whatever) then why is she being subjected to them on a daily basis. my daughter is allergic to smoke, and we do not allow anyone to smoke around her (or our son for that matter). But we can not help her walking past someone in public. just asking, i found that to be a little odd. |
I am really not understanding why everyone is arguing about this instead of just saying "yeah, i take mine sometimes" or " no, i leave mine at home". be it right or wrong obviously some people do and some don't. i don't think anything said here is going to change anyones mind. we could all fread out about something someone else does in public. |

Maybe to make sure the MIL would never be able to set foot in their home ;) I have to find me a MIL who is allergic to Stewie. Hehe sorry. Might be a bad joke |
Bailey goes with me mainly places that I will be staying in the car, or to Lowes,( he allowed there) and occasionally to the drug store when I just run in to pick up film ( right in the front of the store) They get upset when I don't bring him.. :( As far as sneeking, I think it's just asking for unwanted drama, if he's not allowed and I know it, why attempt it, it would just end up making me po'd and I get enough of that, without making it myself. |
