Floppy Ears 1 Attachment(s) My husband was showing off a picture our new little furbaby and a person he works with (who has Yorkies) said that we would have to get Dylan's ears clipped  in order for his ears to stand up. Is there something wrong with floppy ears? I personally like them. Do they have to sand up? He is only 4 months will they eventually stand up? I can't stand the thought of doing that to my little baby. |
Your baby is soooooo cute:) I personally think his floppy ears are adorable and would not get them clipped. Georgie's ears are clipped but if I got him and they weren't they would stay floppy. :D |
I think that they start to stand up on there own after a while. My puppy is four months old and she has one stick up and the other one is still floppy. I don't think there is anything wrong with floppy ears becauseI think that they are cute no matter what. |
It doesn't matter if they stay down or not.. That is a personal choice.. If you like them that's fine.. I think they look ADORABLE!! |
Since the pup is only 4 months old they may go up on their own. And you do not have to get the ears clipped you can tape them up. Just type in the search taping ears and you will see demonstrations on how to do it. It is just a personal preference but I think that the floppy ears are cute! |
I personally love the floppy ear look, It makes them look more like a puppy. |

bunjee's got floppy ears and as adorable as ever! i think ear clipping is absolutely unncessary. as someone else suggested, you can tape them to help them stand if it's important to you. i just trim the hair along his ears. if they stand they do. if they don't, that's okay too. |

thats what i thought when i read it :D she should have said shave them inless she meant cut |
Its up to you but personally I think they're HANDSOME! :) |
looks like your baby has way too much hair to stand on their own. Shave them down to where they look like velvet with a trimmer. if that fails, cut the hair off with siccors. can you believe I have forgotten how to spell sissciors. major brain fart right this minute. LOL |
I think your little guy is adorable with his floppy ears. Since he's only 4 months old they still may stand if you trim the hair on them. I tried trimming and taping my yorkies' ears but they did not like the tape so they both have floppy ears. |
If you want them to stand I would clip the HAIR from the ears and keep it that way for a bit. But it has been my experience that if they are not up by this time they won't usually stand. But it's your choice as it is your puppy. You might even clip the hair and tape them for about 4 or 5 days and then take the tape off and see if they stand. |
What a cutiepie! I love the floppy ears ... Mine is 7 months now and they stand up but bounce up and down when he runs :p .. they got real floppy when he was about 4 1/2months ..when he was really teething ... but they popped up on their own since.. I wouldn't change a thing! |
Ok so my vet said that the ears will go up and down during teething. Gracie had to ears standing up by the time she was 3 month and then one fell and did not go back up until she was 11 months old and done with teething...... |
2 Attachment(s) My Sunny's ears are still down I have tried everything from tapping to clipping the hair off the ears she is 6 months and I just gave up, if they come up great if not oh well she is still a cutie pie to me! |
Just give him time. He is a cutie, thats for sure, so I wouldn't stress about it too much! |
1 Attachment(s) :animal-pa My Penny is 8 months old now and still no stuck up ears, but I really like them floppy.... Looks cute and puppish. In the future if they stand great, if not thats great too... I have also trimmed the tops and sides and they still dont stand... so be it!!!!! |
all of your puppies are too cute! I'm a little partial to floppy ears (ginger's never stood up). I stressed about it big time when she was a pup...but i just love her look now! |
We are on the fence with Lyric, the last couple of days, one of his ears has been playing with the idea of standing up. It's so cute, sometimes it's straight up and then its down, then sideways :) . I think it's so cute, and can't wait to see how it ends up. Either way though he's gonna be my little cutie!! |
When I brought Kloey home both her ears were up, but then about a few weeks after one of them fell, so I checked into it and they said it was cause she was teething, after a couple weeks it stood back up and it has not fell since. |
No definetely leave them floppy, i hate any dogs that have there ears up |
I think you were upset by the cutting of the ears, as you were probably thinking about docking, but yorkies ears don't actually get cut. I notice that the larger yorkies usually have the floppy ears. The ears get more air if they do stick up and many people have the canals plucked too for hygenie. I watched Debbie have it done the first time at PetsMart and she didn't even flinch. You should have seen all the hair that came out. If you like them floppy, leave them alone. If not, just getting rid of that heavy hair might help them pop up. I'd give it a try but the taping seems a bit uncomfortable. |
ears hang low 1 Attachment(s) hi this is PepperAnn and her ears hang down. she is still cute as a button... this is one of her pups Mossimo.. I keep his ears trimmed by just running the clippers over them takes just a sec. he just turned 4 months old and they may or may not perk up. his daddys ears are straight up. never know...... :aimeeyork |
I got my yorkie yesterday, his 3 months and he had his ears taped, but he was always scrachingit and it seemed like it was bothering him so I took it off. his ears are now hairless and was dirty, but it's half way up. my hubby wants me to ask the vet to tape it up for us, so it will be staind up at all times. I don't know if I should do that, and what do they do when they clip the ears excectaly? sound painful Patricia |
Clipped I also think they meant clipped as in clipping the hair. You don't have to clip Yorkies ears to get them to stand. My Rhapsody's ears looked like your baby's and all we did was shave the hair about 2/3 of the way down and up to the top (inside and out), and then clipped the hair around the edges of the ears. When we did this her ears just popped up, we were prepared to tape the ears, but we didn't even have to! Good luck -- do a forum search on taping the ears and that's where we got the instructions on how to do ours! :) Jess, Rhapsody, and Tiger :) |
