klogan i think you should leave some doggie food lying around in a bowl; it usually deters them from eating their poop because they know that they still have some food around. my lulu usually doesn't eat her own poop, she does lick it though if i'm not there watching her. (caught her a few times, just before i could say anything) |
Mine did this too! All three were eating poop!! Yuck! I have tried everything everyone told me but they still did it. I started to give them more food a few times during the day and it seems to have stopped! At least I hope it did. :rolleyes: |

I've heard the suppliment Missing Link has stopped this for many dog owners and also plain yogurt has been known to help. |
Chloe just turned 2 months old on Tuesday. And she already has a bad habit of trying to eat her poop. Totally grosses me out. But, dogs don't know any better and anything is considered food to them. My mom brought her to the vet yesterday for her 8 week booster shots. The vet gave us deter. It worked! In just 1 day, Chloe does not touch her poop anymore. Now I am no longer grossed out when she tries to give me those yorkie kisses on my cheeks. |
I just took Stomper back to the vet. I asked them about dogs eating cat poop. He said that cat's carry diseases that can kill dogs. They can end up getting kindey disease and stomach cancer. That made me so sad. The cats are not mine and I can't keep them from doing there thing in my yard! I also pick up his poop daily. I can't spend time digging through the dirt and bark to find cat poop. I feel like I really have no control since I can't force the cats out of my yard. :( |

You may have already been told about this. When my shih tzu (r.i.p.) was around a year old she used to eat poop. It was particularly difficult to stop because she'd go hide somewhere in the house and make her own snacks! lol Well, we were pretty grossed out by the whole thing, so we told our vet. He gave us something that we put on her food. Basically, after a few days it made her poop taste bad. (that's how it was explained, how do they decide what is bad tasting poo?) Well it worked! She lived for many years and never ate another pile! Good luck. p.s. if anyone gets any info on rabbit poop, I do have a little one who thinks that's a gourmet treat, obviously I can't put the magic potion on all of the rabbit food...so I'd love to hear what you've got! |

I tried Deter but it didn't work--she continued to eat her poop. I think that she grew out if it because I haven't witnessed her eating her poop anymore. Max never at his poop and he started doing that recently when he had accidents in the house--I think he was trying to hide the evidence. Max and Abbie also eat rabbit poop like it's a gourmet treat. I don't know how to stop it. |
does anyone know how long it takes for the deter to work? henry has been on it for a couple days now, and he's already eaten twice while i wasn't watching. i'm giving him a half tablet a day. should i split this between his two bowls of food that he eats a day? and i'm not sure if i should up the dosage since he's still been eating it, unless it takes a few days to work. one more question....is this a yorkie thing? because i have never heard of it until i got henry. |
