Gosh Denise, I am so sorry to hear this :( Don't give up on her though! Villette is right, these little ones are fighters and they do surprise you sometimes. I will definitely say a prayer for your furbaby. Please keep us posted on her condition... |
Im so sorry to hear this news about your baby. I hope they are wrong. I will keep her in my prayers. sending her hugs from all of us. |
Oh, I hope everything goes well for you guys. You are in our prayers. |
I am so sorry you got bad news. I do not know of any advice to give, but this is the right place to com. You are both in my thoughts and prayers. |
Oh my! I am sorry to hear this! Mojo and I send hugs and kisses and get well wishes! |
Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers! It truly means a lot. It's amazing how much a 5.5 pound creature can fill a life with love. I too hope they're wrong...I can't imagine her being gone in a year or two. Just can't imagine it! I've done my own research on MVD. The problem is the clotting disorder that's secondary to the MVD which I can't find any info about. The stuff I find about MVD doesn't mention secondary conditions...at least not what she has. I do have to do some more research on maybe hemostasis to see what I can find. I will post an update when I have one. I'm hoping the vet gets back to me in a day or two...if not, I'll call her. I know she's working hard researching this, so I want to give her adequate time to find all she can. Thank you again for all of your support! I'm sure the shock will wear off eventually and I'll be able to look at her normally again instead of thinking her life is short. But the words, "I'll be surprised if she lives another 1 or 2 years" is still so fresh. I hope they're wrong...from my lips to God's ears. |
The vet's office called today to let me know that they are actively researching Luci's condition. Apparently the vet has been in touch with Cornell University and they have sent her some information. Once she reviews that, I should be hearing from her in the next day or two. |
Hi Denise, Cookie was finally diagnosed and I was told by the surgeon that they found it was Mild Microvascular Dysplasia (MVD) he has no other problems associated with it though. Let me just tell you that they are little fighters/ Cookie turns 2 yrs old in 3 weeks. I have never heard of this blood clotting disorders associated with MVD. I know how much you must love this little girl. I know you are extra careful with her to avoid injuries etc... I treat Cookie like a baby and will do anything to give him a long happy life. I know you are in shock and have probably cried so much over this. I cried for several days. I could not even open my mouth to say that I might lose Cookie. The surgeon suspected it was Liver Shunt but Thank God it was not! I would burst into to tears at the thought. Knowledge is power and once you get all the info you need on this disorder you will have a better understanding of it and will probably find helpful tips. If you need to vent ,send me a PM anytime! |
My dog didn't have microvascular dysplasia, but did have a clotting disorder called thrombocytopenia. This was certainly a terrible and scary experience for both of us. She had no platelets and her blood didn't clot. I came home from work one evening to find blood from one end of my house to the other. She had thrown up blood all over. We went to the ER and they didn't expect her to live through the night, but she did, and many weeks later after a ton of medicine, she finally recovered. It was no fun. I'm sorry for your little guy. What he has is obviously different from what my dog had. I'm sorry and wish you the best. Carol Jean |
Jewel's Fighting for her Life and Luci will TOO! You must be so heartbroken but keep hope. Research the conditions, contact doctors at various University Veterinary Hospitals look into alternative medicine doctors (even if you may not comfortable with it, there are other options). Back in June, Jewel was diagnosed with GME and we were told we would be very lucky if she lived a few days, weeks or a month. She is still with us today! You can see how well she is doing on my Avatar. Doctors CAN be wrong! These little bundles of fur have more heart & determination for life and are truly amazing teachers to us lowly humans! I believe with all my heart that they take their cue from us Human Parents. If we are sad around them, they WILL pick up on it and get depressed and sicker. If we are happy and encouraging, they will FIGHT to get better! All they want to do is to live and make us happy. Please keep all of us updated on Luci. We are all WILLING her to get WELL! |
Another Blood Test I took Luci to the vet this morning for another blood test. My vet spoke with a hemotologist who doesn't think the clotting disorder is a result of the liver disease. He wanted to do a test on factors 1 & 10 to see if she is deficient with those (there are 12 factors that clot the blood). The test is going to be sent to Cornell University for analysis. My vet is fantastic! I thanked her for her efforts in researching what is wrong with Luci. She said she will continue to do so until we find out what is going on. Right now I'm just taking one day at a time with my chalupa. She's laying on my lap right now...she gets exhausted going to the vet's, especially when she has her blood drawn. :angel2dl: Thank you all for your responses and your information. I am so happy to have found YT. The support I have received here in the past 3 weeks since joining has been absolutely amazing. Since Luci is my first pet ever, I don't know what lies ahead. This is a completely new experience for me so I thank you all for your words of encouragement. |

My heart goes out to each and every one of you whose baby is sick. We lost one at the age of 3 due to a liver condition. Had it been caught sooner she may have lived longer, but this happened 10 years ago. It is heart breaking. I cry for a week when I lose a pet. May God give each of you the strength to get through this. Hugs all around. Jeanie |
When Mac was a baby I was told he would not survive the night and I should consider putting him to sleep. He will be 2 in June. Love & prayers work miracles. :heart to |
