Age Question...Help 1 Attachment(s) I have found a yorkie in germany.. where my husband and I are at (hubbys in the Army) and she is SOOO SOO reasaonable priced (about 600 usd) Nothing wrong with her... its not a puppy mil and she has papers...but the only draw back is I cant have her till 12 weeks and I am going to the states the end of next month... Do you think I should ask if i can have her sooner scent I wont be back till middle of July?? I got my other dog at 6 weeks but that was in the states... What is the youngest age you would sell your pups or bought your pup... Olivia I put a pic of her on here.. her name is Camilla... |
My first thought.. Won't you have to have the puppy quarantined when you get to the States? If so the pup may be too young for that?? Do you trust the breeder to hold her for you until you get back? |
Hmm I am not really sure... When I brought My Bunny Butt here she only needed to be chiped and have her updated shots.. Oh and have a vet say he is in good health... |
Usually you shouldn't bring you puppies home until 12 weeks. That is really the common age. |
I also talked to my mom and she said that when my aunt brougt back her 2 cats and a pup,she got here, they didnt quarantined her puppy... But this was MANY years ago.. so I dont know... I know when i brought my bunny here at 5 months they didnt do that to her... So.. hmm I dont know... Germany changes there rules on pets every 3 months so.. |
I think a lot depends on the puppy. I got my Taz about 8 wks. and he was, is very healthy, a ball of energy. I've had no problems with him and he's 9 mos. now. :) |
Think about it this way... How scary would that be for Camilla to be brought into a new home, then put on a plane, flown over seas, possibly be quarantined and away from you when she is just getting to know you, then have to get use to yet another home in the states, then flown back over seas and have to adjust to being back to her forever home. I like Sherry Lynn's suggestion about leaving her with the breeder till you return. It's worth talking to the breeder about. |
I got Laila at 12 weeks - while the wait is grueling, Laila was in superior health and we didn't and haven't to this day had any issues. |
I am going to take my yorkie in 2 weeks from now, and he will be only 7 weeks. The breeder is very well known and she always sells her yorkies at 7-8 weeks and everything is fine with them. I know onather good breeder in israel who sells pups only at 12 weeks. It's all depends. I think it's ok to take her at 8 weeks... |
I got my from my country when he was 10 weeks, but you need the shoots, and the health certification, and custom did check every single paper, that was last december, if you don't have everything they request they can retain the puppy for 40 days. |
Is your hubby coming back to the states with you? If not couldn't he keep the bundle for you til you get back? I have gotten all of my pups from the age of 7 to 9 weeks and they are doing very well. |
Well he is joining me in June till the middle of July.... And I really don't know how much attention she will get bc he works 12 hrs a day.... I don't want her to be running around the house by her self or stuck in a crate all day. If I know him, he will let her do as she please. That's what he did with Bunny when we got her. took me FOREVER to potty train her to go out side... I really would like to bring her with me if he will let me have her at 8 to 9 weeks.. but hes a little odd lol.. he has in the contract that I cant dock her tail or fix her!! witch i have NEVER seen that before.. I don't know.. but thats a little odd to me.. But that is a Greman For ya.. There Odd when it comes to there furbabys |
I may be wrong, but my opinion is that that much traveling for a young yorkie could be traumatic. I think that's why so few breeders will ship their dogs. I flew with my little guy when he was 6-7 months, and we got stuck in airports and couldn't let him out to pee outside for 10-12 hours. He made it the first couple legs of the trip OK, though whiny. When we reached our destination, he was covered in pee and miserable. I'm no authority, just my .02. |
Well there is NO spots or lay overs... we go right to my air port here to the one back in the states... then a short car ride to my moms house... |
JMO if it was me in this situation, I would check with customs regarding any quarantine and if there is none, I would ask the breeder if he would let her go a little early. Then I would purchase a carry on dog carrier so she can fly on the plane with you. |
