Age Question...Help 1 Attachment(s) I have found a yorkie in germany.. where my husband and I are at (hubbys in the Army) and she is SOOO SOO reasaonable priced (about 600 usd) Nothing wrong with her... its not a puppy mil and she has papers...but the only draw back is I cant have her till 12 weeks and I am going to the states the end of next month... Do you think I should ask if i can have her sooner scent I wont be back till middle of July?? I got my other dog at 6 weeks but that was in the states... What is the youngest age you would sell your pups or bought your pup... Olivia I put a pic of her on here.. her name is Camilla... |
My first thought.. Won't you have to have the puppy quarantined when you get to the States? If so the pup may be too young for that?? Do you trust the breeder to hold her for you until you get back? |
Hmm I am not really sure... When I brought My Bunny Butt here she only needed to be chiped and have her updated shots.. Oh and have a vet say he is in good health... |
Usually you shouldn't bring you puppies home until 12 weeks. That is really the common age. |
I also talked to my mom and she said that when my aunt brougt back her 2 cats and a pup,she got here, they didnt quarantined her puppy... But this was MANY years ago.. so I dont know... I know when i brought my bunny here at 5 months they didnt do that to her... So.. hmm I dont know... Germany changes there rules on pets every 3 months so.. |
I think a lot depends on the puppy. I got my Taz about 8 wks. and he was, is very healthy, a ball of energy. I've had no problems with him and he's 9 mos. now. :) |
Think about it this way... How scary would that be for Camilla to be brought into a new home, then put on a plane, flown over seas, possibly be quarantined and away from you when she is just getting to know you, then have to get use to yet another home in the states, then flown back over seas and have to adjust to being back to her forever home. I like Sherry Lynn's suggestion about leaving her with the breeder till you return. It's worth talking to the breeder about. |
I got Laila at 12 weeks - while the wait is grueling, Laila was in superior health and we didn't and haven't to this day had any issues. |
I am going to take my yorkie in 2 weeks from now, and he will be only 7 weeks. The breeder is very well known and she always sells her yorkies at 7-8 weeks and everything is fine with them. I know onather good breeder in israel who sells pups only at 12 weeks. It's all depends. I think it's ok to take her at 8 weeks... |
I got my from my country when he was 10 weeks, but you need the shoots, and the health certification, and custom did check every single paper, that was last december, if you don't have everything they request they can retain the puppy for 40 days. |
Is your hubby coming back to the states with you? If not couldn't he keep the bundle for you til you get back? I have gotten all of my pups from the age of 7 to 9 weeks and they are doing very well. |
Well he is joining me in June till the middle of July.... And I really don't know how much attention she will get bc he works 12 hrs a day.... I don't want her to be running around the house by her self or stuck in a crate all day. If I know him, he will let her do as she please. That's what he did with Bunny when we got her. took me FOREVER to potty train her to go out side... I really would like to bring her with me if he will let me have her at 8 to 9 weeks.. but hes a little odd lol.. he has in the contract that I cant dock her tail or fix her!! witch i have NEVER seen that before.. I don't know.. but thats a little odd to me.. But that is a Greman For ya.. There Odd when it comes to there furbabys |
I may be wrong, but my opinion is that that much traveling for a young yorkie could be traumatic. I think that's why so few breeders will ship their dogs. I flew with my little guy when he was 6-7 months, and we got stuck in airports and couldn't let him out to pee outside for 10-12 hours. He made it the first couple legs of the trip OK, though whiny. When we reached our destination, he was covered in pee and miserable. I'm no authority, just my .02. |
Well there is NO spots or lay overs... we go right to my air port here to the one back in the states... then a short car ride to my moms house... |
JMO if it was me in this situation, I would check with customs regarding any quarantine and if there is none, I would ask the breeder if he would let her go a little early. Then I would purchase a carry on dog carrier so she can fly on the plane with you. |
i don't know about if your dog flies in the seat with you but I know if they are shipped, they have to be eight weeks old. |
This guy is the most oddest peson I have ever talked to in Germany lol.. Thanks for ever ones thoughts... But the guy said he wont let me have till she is 12 weeks.. SO, the 4th I am goin to put euros down to hold her for me.. And on the 7th of april my husband is going to pick her up..so when he comes on June, he will bring her with him.. I am a little disapoted that I dont get her earlyer but SOOO happy at the same time that I am getting the yorkie I have always wanted AND WAY below my price rang.. so that means I get to go Shopping with my left over money and buy her cute little things to wear... |
Congratulations! We're going to be as anxious as you! Get hubby to send you pictures so you can post here! |

If your pup is not a small pup - and has been and is eating well - I think they can be taken to a new home at 8 weeks. I really don't feel that the tiny little pups should ever be taken from their mother before they are 10 or 12 weeks old. And, certainly, if they aren't good little eaters, they should stay longer with their mothers. I know it's tempting to find a little puppy, grab it, and take it home. But little Yorkies are especially hard to care for if they are very small and not able to eat well on their own. It just isn't worth trying to do. We have all read too many unfortunate stories from people who have tried to do this. And - remember - there are lots of loveable little Yorkie pups in this world. If this one isn't ready to go with you - you can easily find another that is - and one that you'll love just as much. Good luck! Carol Jean |

Furthermore, I expect it to be a long flight, so why make the puppy fly back and forth from Europe to US to Europe? It's a lot of trauma for the poor baby. Have you checked the all the paperwork to get in and out of Germany and the States? Please be careful, I know people who have lost their pets this way, not reading all the paperwork through, quarantine, and some just don't survive the flight. |
First off I do not think any reputable breeder would let a puppy go till it was at least 12 weeks old, and second if she lets the puppy go early then the pup would be missing out on so much needed things with the litter mates. The age between 6 and 12 weeks are very important in socializing and more. Then I believe the puppy will be quarantined for a certain amount of time and that's not good either at that young age or any age as far as I am concerned. |
I know 12 weeks is best. But, I got my yorkie Lacey at 6 weeks. And she was fine. She lived for 13 and half years. I just got my new yorkie puppy Chloe at 6 weeks also. She is now 8 weeks old and is doing wonderful. She is quite a handful though. But, I love her more than anything. |
That face is so cute., Congratulations and good luck with the new little girl. |
I am going to Texas and there they start out at 950 and that's for boys. I have not seen a 3 to 4 lb go for 520euros which is about 600 USD. He sent me a copy of her German papers and I compared them to a few I saw online and to one that my husbands co-worked got from her breeder. She also translated what it said (she is from here) and as of the baby loving my husbands more.. I really dought it. But is she dose that's fine. And I would Waite for the ones back in the states but there a PAIN to get brought back.. it took me like a 2 month to get my bunny here. They have to have there shots right before they come. so i had to wait for her shots to be due before I could bring here... Then when i got to the air port, they said she could not come bc she was not chipped with the right chip.. so I had to get my fligh changed AGAINt and get her RE chip and Waite for the German paper work to come in, so she could come over. And if that was not enough they just changed the rules AGAIN on bring the pets in to German.. They Changed then every 3 months.. witch I think it dumb but.. that's the rules and you have to go by them if you want to bring you baby with you. |
