Wrapping??? I saw something that I have never seen in Japanese book about yorkshire terrier. They were wrapping up yorkies hair. I just searched on YT and saw someone posting the pic of yorkie wrapped up!! but... in this book, they wrap more hair... Anyway.. they said that it is ideal to do that every week. Do you guys really do that??? |
I think generally just people that show yorkeis wrap their hair. |
Only the ones that I show get wrapped, the others get to run an play without wraps and some are cut down short. |

What?? I must be clueless but what is wrapping and why do they do it. Sorry for my ignorance... |
Wrapping is for show dogs who need to keep their hair full coat (long) for the shows. Silky coated Yorkies have very fine hair that breaks off easily when they run or play. |
As long as they are being shown, they have their hair in wraps. The only time they don't is show time and bath time. They learn to accept it and it doesn't bother them at all. It's bad when there are puppies around because the puppies like to grab the wraps on the dogs and tug on them so you have to be careful that they don't chew them off. |
Maybe can someone post pics of yorkie wrapped up!? :) I think it looks funny when their hair are wrapped. |
I have no idea what you are talking about! But then again, I am always the same! LOL!! :D You are looking the woman who thought an xpen was for vaccinations! I'll just leave that there :) |

Wow!! I don't think i'd like that done to me :( I guess they don't mind if they are used to it. :) |
this one looks painful you have to see this!!! http://www.dolcesinfonia.com/dolce_show_jacket.htm if you scroll down you see http://www.dolcesinfonia.com/DSCF0004.JPG |
It does not look like fun and they just look so sad :( I know it's to protect their coat, but I'd rather my baby have fun :D |
Just my opinion but I does seem rather cruel once I've seen what it actually is. I know its customary for those who show their dogs but in my opinion it constricts that poor dogs and doesn't allow them to be dogs. Once again, just my opinion and not meant to offend anyone. (sorry to repeat that so much but I know some people are sensitive about these kinds of topics ;) ) |
I doubt that it hurts them as I have read the instruction for wrapping.. but it looks uncomfortable to me |
I don't think it hurts them physically, but it looks very constricting. To me it seems mean (no offense to those that do it). I would rather my baby have fun and be a dog. |

You know, if you don't know what you're missing, then you aren't missing anything. If a dog is wrapped, and it's used to it, then it runs and plays just like everyone else who isn't wrapped, and doesn't know the difference! There are different variations on wrapping, some wrap more coat up than others, some don't wrap at all, some just oil, some do neither. It isn't cruel, it isn't painful, it doesn't even bother them, they really couldn't care less. It enables them to run and play and be real dogs, wheras if their hair was down long, they couldn't, or it would break and matt up, and they'd have to just live in an ex-pen instead, does that sound like more fun? Just think of it this way, the faster it grows b/c its in wraps, the faster the dog will finish it's championship and be able to be cut back in a puppy cut. :) There; happy thought? :) |
They can run and play in wraps, that is the reason for the wraps, to protect their hair from being broken when with the other dogs. It is no different than putting your hair in rollers or rubber bands. when you start doing it when they are young, they just accept it as part of their life, sorta like a baby starting to wear shoes. |

Great explanation. Still doesn't give me happy thoughts..lol...but it makes sense. It just doesn't look comfortable at all. I can't imagine that they don't mind it or are used to it, if they pick at them, scratch them, or try to bite them out. I'm sure they see other dogs and wonder why they look so free and comfortable. Even if they are used to it, since having it done since puppy age, it's not normal or natural to them. Normal or natural is running around and playing naked..lol..without little rubbers and papers hanging down all over them. |

Wellllllll, if you want to get to basics think of a baby, normal to them is naked, but they wear what we put on them and lean to accept it. My dogs do not pull at their own wraps or try to bit them out, my puppies try to pull them out of the show dogs, and even chew on the hair of the non show dogs, which does not matter too much, because I don't worry about whether or not their coats get to the floor or not. Right now I have a 9 month old pup that will grab her momma's face hair and pull her around the room if I don't stop her. Therefore the pup is put into a pen until she learns to leave momma alone. |

I don't use the socks on mine, but a friend does, and they go on the back paws, and are used to protect the neck hair when they scratch with their hind legs. The socks are made of the material that is used for cuffs on jackets, the strechy cotton stuff. They also, do not hamper the dogs play or movement. Ever see a baby with the little socks on their hands so they don't scratch their faces with their nails, same thing. |
My first show dog, is now a girl that only sits and watches due to her having a shunt, but every time I am grooming and wrapping the others, she gets right up there so she can be groomed and wrapped too. Now if it was so uncomfortable, she surely would not want to be done up if she did not need to be. She gets lots of attention, because she is daddy's favorite, so it is not for the attention either. course she only gets one or two wraps put in and the pups will have them out in no time, but it makes her happy. |
I've never had to use the socks either til this new fellow of mine, he insists on rubbing his face furnishings, which are not long enough to wrap (because he keeps rubbing them!) so, little sockies it is for him.. I think he's gonna look cute, LOL I'm going to get them custom made for him with his name on them so he can be "stylin' and profilin'" :) As for the wrap jackets someone showed a pic of, I've got some, and frankly, they just make the hair matt up, but they work great for getting a mama to wean her kiddos. :) Can't get to the milk bar! :) |
