I completely agree!! I guess it doesn't make much sense to those of us who don't show our dogs but it is perfectly customary for those of you who do show your dogs. Not that any one side is right or wrong. Just different opinions. All I have as reference is my Nikko who puts up a fuss when I merely try to dress him to go outside in the cold. I can't imagine tying up his hair in bunches. He would go insane!! It sort of reminds me of those women who force their little daughters into beauty pageants. Sure the little girls get used to it, but deep inside they are still little girls who wish they could run and play and get dirty if they want to. Again, just my opinion and no offense to anyone.

Hmmmm, maybe we can put your small one and my small one together and get a good sized one. I am praying that my 9 month pup gains another pound so I can show her. She has such an adorable face, but only about 3 3/4 pounds right now. I did have one that gained after she turned a year so I am hoping that will happen with this one. If not, there is someone waiting for her. She is hoping that the pup does not grow anymore so that she can get her.

Trudie, One of my girls gained a POUND after a year old. She heard me say SPAY to her, and she said NO WAY..lol I didn't breed her til she was two, and then she gained ANOTHER half pound..but to see her as a youngster you would have thought there was NO way she would have made size. Just keep telling her the word "spay".. lol it worked wonders on my girl, who wanted to be a mommy sooooooo bad. Or..Maybe you should say "pet home" to yours, LOL

It sounds kind of like my first 2 granddaughters. My granddaughter Laura's mother liked to dress her up from the day she was born. She always wore little frilly dress and even when home darling little frilly outfits. She had lots of thick curly hair which her mother always had in bows and ribbons, little pigtails, or curls, etc. She even had a baby ring, bracelet, locket.

My second granddaughter,Andrea, born a year later, went everywhere in little stretchy onsies type outfits, even though she had all of Laura's clothes handed down to her (they were like new as Laura had so many) Her mother never put them on her as she didn't think she looked comfortable in the frilly clothes.

I was with both of the girls all the time and believe me one was not any more happy or comfortable than the other. Laura was used to being dressed up and liked it and all the attention. It certainly never affected her personality either, she is not vain or conceited. She is one of the sweetest kids you could ever meet.

I don't know...I don't think it's cruel...It's wrapped so that they CAN play and run with the other non-show doggies. If it was down, they wouldn't be able to because they'd trip over it and get it all matted up which could actually be painful. Like someone already said...It's like a human with rollers in their hair.
Also, so many yorkie owners dress their yorkies...It's not "natural" for a yorkie to wear clothes, but people dress their dogs anyway. I wouldn't dress Miko if he didn't like it, but he actually likes to be dressed. Everytime I get out one of his shirts, he comes running to me and sits patiently waiting to be dressed kinda like the yorkie that still wanted to get wrapped even though she wasn't being shown anymore...

I was looking at some pics for while.. I think.. you can make it cute too.. using different color paper etc!! I don't know if I would necessary get a show quality yorkie.. but.. I would love to have my yorkie long hair.. for sometime.. so... I might try this!

If I trimmed the ears of my yorkie but they still will not stand up. do I need to trim more hair?

Alicia, How old is your yorkie. If it is still a puppy you can try taping the ears up. You have to have trimmed at least a1/3 of the ear hair off on both sides of the ear.

Seeing the dogs with their hair wrapped up reminds me of the days long ago when we used to go to bed with our hair up in rollers. That DID hurt - it was very uncomfortable for US to sleep!

she is 14 weeks old and she is so cute. I went to the vet and had her ears shaved. One of her ears appears to be standing! :)

If it is important to you that they stand you can tape them, but if it does not make a difference you can just leave them alone, and they may stand by themselves
