Kai went to the rainbow bridge....
 

I had to have Kai put to sleep wed. The Vet told me she was in acute juevinile renal failure. Her BUN and Creatine levels where so high that she was in serious kidney failure. Has anyone heard of this before? She was 14 months old. The vet says it usually happens around 1 year , it's commmon in this breed and that it could be genitc or it could be a fluke. I am so destroyed over this. I have a 6 month old boy from some of the same blood lines that they want to test now. I have not been able to find anyone who knows anything about this , and the Vet had terrible bed side manners. She told me to hurry up and decide what I was going to do for Kai because she wanted to go eat her lunch. My husband and I feel like we have lost our child , and I feel like the Vet did not give us enough of a good bye....... :(

What a crudey vet. I don't know the answers to your questions, but I am so sorry about Kai. She's your angel now.

I am so sorry this has happend to you. Usually when you hear of kidney failure its in an older dog your Kia was so young. That is terrible that that vet made you make a decision so quick. I would never go back to that vet again. I am so sorry again.

Oh my goodness.... that is so sad! I can't believe your Vet could be so un-caring! It seems that sometimes some Dr's and Vets are around sickness and death so much, that they get use to it and can forget that it's devastating to the families. I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. My brother and his wife and family had to put a cat to sleep, but they had an amazing vet who sent them a sympathy card and even put their cats paw prints on a card for them. They were lucky, because they were able to feel some closure. You are in my thoughts.... your baby was so young. :(

I'm SO SO SORRY ! That's awful for you... :( I hope someone can help explain the levels and can't believe your vet didn't spend more time with you explaining what this meant and had you make such a sudden decision.....that's just very sad to hear

I just wanted to say how truly sorry I am and that had to be the hardest thing to do...and even though you weren't able to say the goodbyes you wanted to... she knew you were there.....

Oh wow, Im sorry I cant offer any advice on this subject. But I am amazed that a Vet would do you two that way!! Im so sorry to hear about her passing, but atleast she isnt suffering.

BTW, I was recommended a Vet who does blood testing and supposively is the best in the US. I plan on having my dogs blood shipped to her for a general blood check up here soon.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss and like everyone else has said I would definetly change vets, that is very uncalled for!

I was there with her , I held her in my arms until the end , But I found out at 11 and she was put down at 1 I got to spend 15-20 minutes with her before ...it just was not enough.....I did not want her to suffer either.......I just wish some one knew something about kidney failure in a dog this young.......... surley I am not the only one this has happened too????

I am sooo sorry for you loss and for the totally unprofessional manner in which this was handled by the vet. I am so angry and hurt for you after reading this post...how uncaring can the vet be??? Definitely find another vet, and consider reporting that one. No one should have to make such an important decision in haste and especially when all the tests/alternatives were not explained or explored.

I'm so terribly sorry! Oh, how painful that must have been. Losing a baby is bad enough, but that vet! I'd find a new one immediately!

I'm thinking of you and praying for your other pup. I bet he's fine though. Just because the bloodlines are the same doesn't mean they either inherited it, or that that gene is active and giving him problems. I hope not.

When Ranger had to be put down we went to the (not Banfield) vet, a specialist, and felt we were treated as poorly as I mentioned in my post about Ranger.

Some of the vets don't realize our pets, are our family and our children.

Thanks guys.....Has anyone ever heard of this? I mean Juvinile Renal Failure? We had just moved to this town....that was the only Vet that could look at Kai on short notice , I took her in Tuesday because she was throwing up and the checked her and sent her home with some stuff to make her stop throwing up , they figured she ate something that bothered her stomach , she was sick all night , and Wed the did x-rays and blood wrok and found out that her kidneys where in faliure , unfourtunaley there is nothing they can do for that. When the vet called to tell me all this she said well the best thing you have done for this dog is the blood test , she's in kidney failure and is going to die....we should put her to sleep , I'm like your gonna wait until I get there before you do anything.....so I know better then to take my other yorkie there. I did get the blood results and I called another Vet yesterday and she was in very high kidney failure , so I did do the right thing by putting her to sleep , but I'm left with WHY DID THIS HAPPEN TO MY DOG???? WHAT IS THIS THAT SHE HAD.....??? WHY DID MY VET IN MY OLD TOWN NOT KNOW SHE HAS THIS?? ( Her levels have always been normal until Wed.) The vet that put her to sleep , and the one I talked to after (at a diffrent clinic) said that it could just strike at any time.....AND MOST OF ALL I AM LEFT WITH A BIG HOLE IN MY HEART!!!!! WHY MY POOH????

As for the Vet she wasnt thinking about you & the situation,so that means she should not be a vet,very uncaring :mad:

She has no heart,so therefore in my books shes not human :eek: there is a lot of thinks like this walking around... :eek:

Obviously this Vet doesn't practice the second paragraph very well. If it was me I would send her a copy of the Oath with that paragraph highlighted. No one should have to make a decision like his because someone elses stomach is growling. My prayers are with you and your family.

I may be way off base here but is it at all possible that she ate something poisoness? Maybe a plant or something in your new home? It is just so sad and strange that it came on so suddenly....I am so sorry for your loss and hope that you find some answers. The not knowing part is certainly adding more stress to an already tragic situation. Vivi and I are sending you a hug.

I am so very sorry too. I'm not familiar with this problem at all but I would change vets in a second, no compassion, shame on her.
