Please help! Is a puppy Yorkie Supposed to look like this? 1 Attachment(s) Hi everyone, Could anyone please tell me whether the colours on this yorkie puppy looks ok and whether his features are ok? I currently live in HK and its very hard to find a healthy puppy or one that is bred properly. I have had many friends buy puppies from pet shops, bring them home and they die a week or a month later. So, I'm kind of skeptical about what the pet shop owners tell me. thanks! |
I am no expert, but looks like a yorkie to me! |
Is he from a pet shop? I would not buy him then. Pet shop puppies are from Puppy Mills. If you don't know what a puppy mill is it is a place where female dogs are bred every heat cycle until they aren't 'good' anymore. Then they are usually killed, or left to die. The dogs there get very little food and water and are not taken care of. By the way, welcome to YT! I'm sure you'll love it here! :Wavey: |
Yes he is from a pet shop, but in HK, even if you go directly to a breeder thats where the pet shops get the puppies from too. So basically there isn't much choice |
That' sad that your friends puppies have died. I would be carfeul so you don't go through the same thing. From the pic it looks like a yorkie to me. :animal36 |
Welcome, MKI so glad you found YT. The puppy in the picture does look like a Yorkie to me. |

Welcome to YT Mki!!! The picture looks like a Yorkie. Can you take him/her to a Vet to have a health check? It's sad it hard for you to find healthy puppies there. I wish you the best of luck in finding a healthy furbaby. Please keep us posted. Again, welcome!!! :) :) :) |
Thanks for all your help! I'm so glad I found this web site!! It really depends, they have these mini yorkies that grow up to be around 3 pounds which cost around $1,200 USD. The one in the pic that I posted cost around $600 USD. But its really sad, cuz I bought a yorkie puppy last week, then took her to the vet before I brought her home to make sure she was healthy. But the doctor said she already has a cough and could be something more serious and suggested that I get a refund. Its actually quite common for pet shops in HK to sell puppies that are already sick, thats why many of them die after people take them home, so its pretty sad here. |
Yorkies are very expensive in HK, especially if they're really small. They can also go up to $2,000 USD , just for a house pet depending where you buy them. But, as I know, there is ONE store that breeds their Yorkies, good quality, but are very particular of who they sell to, which is good. Welcome to YT!!!! |

Where's My Manners ? Welcome to YT. Glad to have you here. You will find a lot of help and support here. Sorry this wasn't on my first reply. :wavey: :yorkietal |
Hi and welcome...all the way from Hong Kong just like icy, this is so cool. He looks like a yorkie and he is very cute. Did the other pup you got first look like this one or different? |
he's very cute and does look very much like a yorkie. He looks so sad though :( |
Hello and Welcome. Yes its so sad that pet stores get their puppies from puppy mills. and so sad that they are sick.I feel so sorry for them and the parents. If you do get a puppy ...please take it right to the vets to get checked. And yes the picture looks like a yorkie to me. |
The other one was even cuter, she's really tiny and has the sweetest look. Most pet shops in HK let you return the puppy within 24 hours if there is something wrong after you take him / her home. But usually there is no refund, can only exchange for another one. |
By the way, most smaller Yorkies, that grow up to 3lbs or so, will most likely have more health problems, maybe now.. or maybe later in life. It may be a little easier to find a healthier yorkie that grows up to be 7-10 or so pounds. Im really curious about your Vets diagnosis of the last Yorkie puppy you returned. Did he do any other test? Alot of pet store puppies have kennel cough which can be easily treated and have no problems later on in life. Im just curious why he thought there may be bigger problems. Goodluck on finding a healthy puppy!!!! It seems like even here in the US its hard to find a healthy pup sometimes, I cant imagine how it must be there!!! |
What a cutie, let us know if you get him, his little mask looks like "Batman" :) |
I think he is precious!! Oh my goodness, what a cutie pie! If he's healthy, I say go for it! :p |
His coloring and his ears, are just what Bailey looked like at that age, He is all Yorkie. |
Precious. Just precious. Yes, that looks all Yorkie to me. |
I'm going to try and make the trip to go see this little one before mki buys on impluse.............I'll try and make sure everything's right........ |
Looks yorkie to me. Looks almost indentical to my new yorkie puppy Chloe. Chloe also has the gray/silver around her eyes. |
He looks like a cute litlle yorkie to me. |
it looks like a yorkie. But I think it's VERY young to already be in a pet shop. I hope he hasn't been there for weeks. I hate to think how young he was when they took him away from his mother. I would say not to buy him from a petshop. I would buy from a responsible, god breeder that someone recommends to you. It may be expensive now, but it is likely to save you from huge vet bills and heartbreak in the future. good luck |
Welcome Welcome to Yt. I know you will like it here. The people are wonderful and you will get great info here. Your pup looks like a Yorkie to me. A very cute one if I may add. You should take the pup to the vet A.S.A.P to make sure it's healthy and also to get all it's shots. I hope evrything turns out well for you and your new furbaby. Good Luck and keep us posted. :aimeeyork |
It does look like a yorkie, but I see some discoloration and discharge around the eyes. I'd be careful if I were you. Good luck! |
Welcome to YT! It's definately a Yorkie Baby. I would be very weary of the pet shop though. If you can at all find a private breeder, I would head that way instead as pet shop puppies are more commonly sick then healthy. I wish you the best of luck!!! |
