Why get the dog chipped? Because I would HOPE eventually the stealer or stray picker upper person would be smart enough to take the dog to the vet. Then, if the vet checked the dog the # would come up stolen. Hey, come to think about it...I took Baby to two different vets and they didn't check her chip. How do they know I didn't steal/find her? Maybe vets should automatically check. What do you think? |
I agree, I wonder if the vets do check for chips and just don't say anything??? Now I am going to have to ask. They take mine away to weigh them in the other room. They could secretly be scanning them as not to aggrevate us? |
I have three babies and they are all chipped. I was driving with the windows wide open one day (which I don't do anymore) because they love the wind in their faces. But when I got to my destination, I found one of them missing and I didn't know why. Bobo had jumped out of the car!!!!!! I was frantic with worry, but about an hour or two later, I got a phone call from a very nice lady saying that she was in her vet's office with my Bobo. They had scanned him for the microchip and found my details and called me. What a nice lady!!! I sent her a very nice basket of fruit with flowers to thank her kindness. And yes, the microchip works and it gives peace of mind!!! |

I was thinking the same thing!! They "sneak" away with the dog for a little while to weigh, cut nails, whatever. Hey, I hope they are scanning behind our backs!! :p |
One of my Yorkies is chipped and the other is tattooed but will be chipped too when spay'd. They also have ID tags on their collars (you can say i'm a little paranoid) haha I have just read to many lost Yorkie stories. |

Yes, I was VERY lucky!! Not just that he survived the jump, but also he didn't get run over by another car. Please keep windows rolled up so that they can't jump out. |
I purchased my maltese from another state and he came to me already microchipped. I haven't gotten around to changing the information on the chip to my information and our vet has never said anything about it. For all the vet knows, you could have purchased your dog and never had the info changed. Maybe our vet just hasn't checked. It would be an interesting question to ask them! |
I can't wait to ask! They need to be doing that for us. |
Our breeder has all her puppies microchipped so our Brie came to is that way. I think it is a great idea. |
My girl has a microchip. She has never gotten lost, knock on wood, I hope she never does. |
i just got bunjee microchipped today! the local animal control had a free microchip clinic. i gave them the recommended $10 donation for local residents. it'll cost me another $9 to submit and register the information for the national registry. that's 50% off the normal national registry price of $18 since i got the chip at a shelter. i also had the option of bringing bunjee to another vaccination/microchip clinic held at a pet store and not sponsored by the local shelter. the price for the microchip is $39 plus the national registration of $18. if you question whether or not the chip works, take your yorkie to a shelter or a vet and have them scanned to confirm that the chip works. shelters will automatically scan animals brought in to find the owner. but i really wish vets and vaccination clinics automatically scan pets brought to them as well. it would give me more peace of mind. one thing i have to complain about the microchipping tho is that the needle and chip used for a 50 lb lab is the same as on a 5 lb yorkie. which means, the needle is HUGE for my poor bunjee. he yelped really loudly when he was injected and then turn to hide in my arms and just whimpered. i felt so bad. but it's for his own good and safety. luckily, 30 minutes later, he play with his playgroup as nothing happened. |
Yes, the needle is the same size for every dog, kind of scary for little babies. Another thing is that if you travel internationally with your pup, they need to get microchipped in almost every country. I got my Brownie in Taiwan where she was microchipped once and then to Hong Kong where she was done again. Brownie has some tissue scarring because of both microchips, it's like a grain of rice for each chip, does anyone else have this problem? |
i honestly can't find the microchip on his back anymore. i wonder if it moves? |
WOW thats cool Miny is chipped aswell but I didnt know that soooooooooo many people do the same!! :) |
