Got spayed this morning & still crying softly My baby got spayed this morning. She is just a little over 8 month old (at 3.9 lbs). I was so worry last night and didn't get much sleep. She is home for almost 2 hours now and still crying - softly. It's breaking my heart. The incision is much longer than I would like it to be and I bet it hurts a great deal. I gave her 1/2 of a baby Aspirin for pain as instructed by the vet and I hope she would feel better later. She moves around OK just very very slow. It really breaks my heart as she is always happy and fast if you know what I mean. I don't know why I did this to her. I mean she is an indoor dog and was and will not be left alone with other dog unattended (unless we got her a sister). Maybe her daddy was right all along. How long do you think it would take for the pain to go away? I didn't want her to suffer this much. |
She will be much better tomorrow, just cuddle her and kiss her sweet head tonight. You made the right decision spaying her. I know it's hard knowing she hurts and I send lots hugs her way. I bet tomorrow you will see a big change and see a little more brightness in her eyes. |
Gucci weights 4 lbs 8 oz and she had two surgeries. She was spayed on October and she had a hernia repair 10 days ago. The day or the surgery she was very sleepy and walk very slow, but by the next day she was feeling much better, eating and almost running. Our dogs are very strong. So I hope that she will feel much better by tomorrow. I got Gucci spayed not only to prevent pregnancies but to prevent breast cancer and/or other infections. Your little one will be ok. Just make sure she doesnt lick her stiches and keep her comfortable. |
My Maltese was spayed a week and a half ago. He gave her a shot of Rimadyl, which is supposed to help with pain for 24 hours. She has not really had any pain to speak of, except for the first night, which was minor. She was not her playful self for about four days, which was hard because Surfie didn’t understand and wanted to play. She will be fine, just be careful not to pick her up wrong, I did once, and she let me know. :-( If you’re not planning on breeding, you did exactly the right thing in my opinion. The hardest part right now is not being able to bathe her, she misses her bath. Don’t hesitate to ask with any questions, just in case you freak like I did, some slight bleeding is normal from her stitches, and slight swelling. Just like in a human. Janell |
when my beagle got spayed, she just sat in the same spot alllll weeeeeek loooong. just cuddle her, and when shes up for playing, play, but carefully. remember, no baths and make sure she doesn't scratch |
Thanks, everyone. I just need some assurance from you guys. I keep telling her I am sorry that I did this to her but I can't take it back now. I gave her kisses and some treats. Now she would only eat if I hand feed her. I thought she might need to eat something as she has not have anything but water since 7pm last night. But she rather just stay in her bed. We both know that the chances of her getting cancer is a lot lower now. I guess her daddy just couldn't stand seeing her hurting and crying 'cause she never cry. She is always such a good baby. Thank you guys. The looks of her incision and the way she acts tonight just totally freak me out. I hope she would feel a lot better tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder and I will definitely be very careful with her and will check on her incison often. :) |
awwww lots of love and kisses :) I'm sure she will be feeling better soon! You made the right decision and she will be back to herself in no time. We send her lots of love too! |
Bless your heart, Amyann! I certainly feel for you. Toto was 8 months when she was spayed and believe me I know what you're feeling right now! I held Toto night & day for 2-3 days! :) She did much, much better than we did ... and she was spayed and got her baby teeth removed! By the next day she was wanting to bounce around everywhere! I'm sure your vet told you not to let her jump on the sofa, etc. and we just let everyone know that it would be several days before she would be seeing visitors so she stayed much calmer and stress free. You absolutely made the right decision for your baby so don't feel guilty .... you will be glad you did this for her! If we can help, just let us know. Toto sends hugs & kisses! ;) |
The poor baby.Im sure she will start feeling better soon and will be back to normal in a few days. sending her hugs from us. |
Poor baby! I felt so guilty when Gizmo got his teeth pulled. He just looked at me like why would you do this?? But then a little while later he was fine, and now he has forgiven me. I'm sure she will be fine. I will say a little prayer for a quick recovery. |
Just curious, why didnt the Vet give any pain killers? I wouldnt want just an asprin (or tylenol) if I had a surgery where they made an incision. Im sure she will be better in the morning :) |
I know exactly how you feel. I kept telling Ahia how bad I felt for her. I slep on the floor with her so she wouldn't be jumping off the bed in the middle of the night. believe me for the next few days I was in worse shape than she was, she has her stitches removed tomorrow. she is doing good. it will soon be better. I know they have to hurt. It is all for the better tho. hang in there. :getwellso |
Thank you Thanks everyone. She stopped crying for a while and took a nap. She just got out of her bed to give me a kiss. :) She is such a sweet heart. The down side is, now that she is up she is crying softly again. She wouldn't eat though - not even if I hand feed her now. I got to try and get her to go back to sleep again so it wouldn't hurt so much. |

Poor baby...I hope she gets better soon. Just continue to give her lots of kisses and hugs :) Our Teddy is about to get neutered soon and hope that he will be strong to handle it. Even when we take him to get his puppy shots, I cringe when he's crying as the needle is inserted. That's why my husband is the one that has to hold him. Did the vet give you any instructions on what to do w/ the pain? I'm sure your baby will be fine...yorkies are tough :) |
