Are you referring to an "electric" fence? :confused: I don't think those are recommended for small dogs????

thats what i was thinking, if i found a dog it wouldnt even enter my mind to give it a bath,id be more concerned whos doggie it was.

just a thought maybe he blames you for getting out, especially if he was scared and at the moment feels more secure at your mums, he will come round in the end im sure, id just keep him away from that lady

He may have been traumatized by the woman giving him a bath! The only thing i can think of as to why she would give him a bath is she thought she might have him in her house for an extended period of time before you came to get him and wanted him to be clean for obvoius reasons...that's the only thing i can think of.

Maybe the poor little guy was just having a grumpy day. After the trama of finding himself in the grip of a crazy lady who gave him an unscheduled bath ....

As a matter of fact, yes, I am referring to an electric wire. It's not like they hold themselves to it and electrocute themselves over and over. One time and they knew to stay away. It's the smallest box that they make so it's not like it's one that's used for cattle.

For everyone else, Rebel is doing just fine. Mom says that he's back to his old self...playing and having a good ole time. Thank you for asking. :)

Can you get invisible fences there? Its a cable that you BURRY about 2 feet underground and then the dog wears a small collar.If the dog trys to cross the invisible line,the collar makes a high pitched noise (we cant hear it) which the dog doesnt like.
My mother in law has one and it really works! Her dogs used to go onto other peoples property and get lost,so she bought this and they stay put now.
She only puts the collar on them when she lets them off of their leashes etc.Iv seen this thing work and It was weird! lol.
Her pekinese (sp?) mix saw a rabbit and bolted after it,then all of a sudden she skidded and ran back,letting the rabbit go! It was as if she had hit an invisible wall!! :D

The electric fence is better than nothing because if her gets out again god knows what may happen--stolen, hurt himself or god forbid he could get RUN OVER by a car....we actually considered an electric fence for our yard- a friend of mine owns one of the Franchises near us and said many people use them for small dogs and if it is the small box there is no real danger to the animal- much safer for them than running loose and in danger-

I agree....those fences are for the safety of pets and not to harm them - Kimberley - you're doing the right thing ...Keeping him IN is your top priority....Cheri is a digger too and I worry about it all the time and am constantly adding to my fence - what a hassle it is !

First of all, you are so lucky to have found him. It sounds like he's been traumatized and this little mini-vacation so to speak may be just what the doctor ordered. It will give him a chance to heal mentally and be in a nice, quiet environment. Bless his little heart. Please keep us posted - we care.

Hot wires are not the same as electric fences...just FYI. It's only one strand and voltage can be adjusted to a very low setting for small animals or a very high one for cattle/horses. Plus, an electric fence will send a (high) current as long as there is contact whereas hot wires only send quick, short burst...a very low voltage, quick shock vs a higher voltage contant. :cool:

Vilette! I just KNOW that you snuck into my back yard and took a pix of MY fence - it looks JUST LIKE YOURS!!! LOL! We had to keep a Jack Russell Terrier in our back yard - WHEW! What a chore!

We used the concrete barrier for the parts of the fence next to the house (small amounts - about 6 feet each), but then for the perimeter of the fence, we used chicken wire - I know it kinda looks like the Clampets (the younger folk won't know what that means! :D ). Anyway, we laid it flat on the ground in front of the fence, about a foot out from the fence, then bent it at a 90 degree angle at the fence and ran it about a foot up the fence. We used steeples to attach it to the wood fence and then tent stakes to keep it flat on the ground. This prevented our Jack Russell from digging under the wood fence. It isn't pretty, but it worked. The grass grows over the chicken wire on the ground so you can no longer tell it is there. The grass does grow up behind the chicken wire next to the wood fence, so it always looks like we need to weed eat around the fence - but we don't care. We are assured that Rowdy can't dig out - although he's never tried.

Fences keep our pups in, but it's also important to remember that we're trying to keep predators and other dogs out, especially if we have unspayed females. Just my input.
