What???!!!! Does anyone elses baby talk back to you when you say certain words? So If I'm watching TV and Coco FEELS like she's being ignored, she'll growl and give a pathetic bark. Then I always get down to her level and say "What, what is it momma" and she will give me another bark. The more I say "WHAT?" the more she barks, it's so cute. And if my hand moves she will chase it..I am just so in love with her and her shenanigans. Anyone else got talker backers? |
I have a back talker big time!!! Sailor does the same thing...if she feels like she is being ignored at all, she will talk to you until you notice her and then she will just continue to bark until you are able to figure out what she wants!! Magic is the one who feels like she always has to get in the last word...when we talk to her she always has to bark back at the end...it is so funny!! |
That's so cute - Chanel and I chatter all the time - she even repeats me.... I try with Cheri but she just looks at me like I'm insane trying to teach her to say 'MAMA' and then gives me a kiss - I guess to make me feel less nuts. |
It is totally funny. Coco usually doesn't bark so when people come over and want to hear her bark, I just ignore her and she'll attack my fingers and toes and growl, then finally when I look at her and say "What?" she talks back..She has the cutest bark. Magic and Sailor sound like so much fun. |
Awwww that is really cute.Vivi does something similar. She will get right up in my face nose to nose and let out this really soft bark. She knows she is not supposed to bark in my face so she tries to be as quiet as she can. And then if I say"What is it" she will try so hard to communicate that I swear she is trying to talk.Sometimes I feel so bad that I don't speak Yorkie :) |

I have Chanel saying " I wanna Treat" -4 funny noises... "Mama" -2 funny noises... "I wanna KISS" -4 funny noises :D and of course "I LOVE YOU" - 3 REALLY great noises.... It's hilarious ...She looks me right in the eye and word for word repeats me - my husband and I both can hear her really trying ....and she gets all the syllables right. And yes...I KNOW she can't really TALK but she sure says alot ! |
YAY Villette and I are headed for the looney bin :wavey: :dribble: :rollingey |
oh yes girl, one day i will have to record coco and have you guys hear him. he really does have conversations with me and i truly believe that he understands every word i say :D |

Sophie is a big talker. She loves to argue. If she wants to eat she will growl at us until we get her food. Then she won't eat it until you tell her she can't have it and argue back and forth with her for a minute or two. Then I will say o.k. you win her you go and she will chow down. She is really bossy and she loves it when she gets her way. Which is always. LOL! |
Starsky is a talker too or a complainer. I'll see him getting into the trash can and I will say "NO you can't get into that trash can, that is a no no". He'll look at me and growl "arahraharhahara". Like he is saying something under his tongue. He barks when he wants attention and I'll bark back and it's a barking fest between the 2 of us. If I bark first, he tips his head and looks at me like I'm nuts! I swear these guys are part human. I have never known another breed of dog that will act like this. |
 Thank God!! We thought Toto was the only one who "talked"!! She very seldom ever actually barks but she has the sweetest little tiny voice and she talks to us all the time!! And I swear, we have tried different commands/sentences with different "tones" & she DOES know what we are telling her!! AND she talks back to us! I am so thankful for a place to say these things and people don't think I am absolutely crazy!! ;) |
My little guy is the same.....he has different barks, noises, whines, etc for different situations! Sometimes, it is like he is trying soooo hard to say something. I, too, (thankfully, I'm not the only one) am trying to get him to say "love you" and "mama". Aren't they the BEST furbabies EVER??!!! I am glad to have a Yorkie family that understands where I am coming from and doesn't think I am mental like my human family does!!! |
I thought I was the only crazy one trying to teach mine to say "I love you". I say it in America funniest home videos. There were dogs on there that said it and some were really clear. Since then I've been trying to get Scruffy to say it! |
You know, I was wondering about that, Gizmo does the same thing when he wants my attention, the wierd growl and bark thing. It is so cute!!! |
Olivia is a little Chatty Cathy! She does this "talk" thing where it's not really growling or barking, it's her talking voice. If you make the noise back to her, she'll keep going on and on and on... I love it! |
OH MY YES!!!!!! Tigger is extremely talkative. If he doesn't get what he wants or if you're on yorkietalk a lot(like myself) he'll sit at my feet and bark then procede to jump into my lap and fall asleep. In the morning when I'm getting ready for work he sits and looks at himself in the mirror and will jump and his reflection and bark. Oh yeah.... and he mumbles. It's kind of like a mix of a growl with small chattering. It's so adorable. Very hard to describe though. And if you do it back to him, he gets louder and continues making the noise. |
Ohhhh yeah ...i can NOT watch tv...ever..Bentley will whine and whine and whine... until i turn it off and play with him! can we say SPOILED!! |
I love hearing that everyone else has a backtalker too..haha..my boyfriend didn't believe me when I said she talks back to me. So I showed him. I just ignored her for like 3 minutes, and she came over and started to paw at my lips and arms. I looked at her and said "What, what do you want momma?" and she gave me back a bark, then I said what again and she barked. My b/f had a field day with it. He tried it but she just looked at him like he was crazy. I was like you sound too monotone, you gotta have some excitement in your voice..lol |
LOL. Jake dose that whenever you ask "who is it" :animal36 |
Gracie talks back when I say "Tell momma". I love it! I also tell her to go to the door and tell momma who it is, she runs as fast as she can to the door or window and will come back to me and bark and make this funny little noise. It is so cute! :D But my FAVORITE is when they turn their little heads fom side to side like they are thinking "what in the world is this lady saying!?!" :p Some times I think she is thinking that her momma is a nut!!! |
Mine do it too Lil Bear is bad about it when we come back from being out for a little bit. She will look at us and just bark and bark like we are being chewed out for leaving her. She will go to my mom to be picked up look, at her in the face and start yelling, we think she cuses us out. She will also move her mouth when we talk to her or when she is trying to tell us something. Moose talks too but she actually talks!! One morning she dropped her red bone on the floor by my bed I told her I was sleepy and not going to get it so she sat on her chair and started growling, I ignored and then she started saying mama, freaked me out since I didn't teach her to say it, and got her bone. She does it whenever she wants something now though I will ignore it sometimes. She will also sit by her water dish and hit it and growl to get more water |
My Sugar Bear gets too demanding. When I'm watching TV she wants my attention so I play peek-a-boo. When my face is covered she doesn't bark, but as soon as I uncover she starts the barking again. I do this over and over again until my laughing goes into a cough. Then I finally get up and she'll show me what she wants - yummy food! |

Our daughter's yorkie, Chase is a talker, too. When I'm busy with something, like on the computer, sometimes he'll come over and put his feet on my leg and talk. What he does is like others describe here, it's kinda like a soft growl, but it's not a growl. It's like he's trying to really talk and tell me something. My husband & I both get quite a kick out of it. If you talk back to him, he'll get quite animated like he's really carrying on a conversation. :animal36 That's why I don't think Yorkies are really dogs. They are something else. I've had several breeds over the years, but nothing anything close to a Yorkie. They're the best!!!! |
Schatzie YES Ransom NO Schatzie (it's gotta be a female thing, LOL) always talks back!! And if you tell her what she doesn't wanna hear she talks even more, ugh!! She's just like a human 2 year old who never wants to give up! Ransom is more quiet. Hardly talks at all. He usually tells me what he wants by his expressions and body language. I guess in a way, he talks back this way, LOL. What is it they say ?!?! ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS?? this is for sure my Ransom. :D |
