I Need Help Deciding PLEASE :) Ok Guys and Gals I was given the option from my hubby to either get the little Chi that I posted last night. OR I can get a male Yorkie I found a lady close to me that has been breeding for 25 years and I called and spoke with her and she said that she is willing to let me make her payments or as we laughed put the puppy on layaway. So my thing is do I get what I want which is the Yorkie or do I get the Chi for my 3 year old? |
I might be bias but I say go for the Yorkie..hehe |
I think your 3 year old will love the puppy no matter what. But I wouldn't get too small of a yorkie because of your child. I have a 3 year old too who has been around small animals his whole life, but it's easier with a little bit bigger of a yorkie. Brandy is 5 lbs and they get along very well. I think you should go and meet the yorkie and the chi and see which one fits in your family the best. Good luck with whatever you decide! |
I say get the yorkie too |

I agree!!! I also think your three year old is going to love any type of dog you bring home!!! But I agree, as a mother of three little boys, don't get one that is too small. And make sure your child knows that they have to be gentle with the puppy. :) |

Tell you husband that since you don't want one full size dog that you'll take two small ones. See if that get's you both of them. Good luck! |
If you're referring to a chihuahua, I say hands down, get the yorkie. I also have to agree that a 3 year old is too young for a small dog, sorry. |
YORKIE!!!!!! :p :D |
My 3 girls are VERY careful with puppies and dogs in general when we brought Bear home at 12 weeks he was all of 1.8 lbs and that was 2 1/2 years ago and the he only weighed 3.8 when he past on. And as far as getting both he said nope. |
Ask anyone on this forum and they would say "YORKIE!!". The only advantage to the chihuahua is .... NO GROOMING....! Good luck with your choice.... You'd love either one!!! :) |
Definitely a YORKIE - they rule!   |
I have two little ones also that are extremely careful with Daisy and are not allowed to play with her alone.. They know the rules. I think that as long as you are consistent and make sure to keep an eye on them there is no reason that little can't be around dogs. JMO and I still respect those breeders and those of you that don't want little furbabies around little human babies.. Just a matter of opinion... :) |
Ok well I just had a talk with Heidi my 3 yeard old and I told her that mommy REALLY wants Sugar to have a little brother like her to play with and that would mean that we weren't gonna get the Chihuahua and she was upset but she asked "Mommy can I name the little Brother when we get him and can he be MY dog" I laughed with tears in my eyes and said well of course you can honey. |
Yorkie.............Yorkie................Yorkie... ........ |
I always ask who is gonna police the friends of the kids in the family? Sweet, careful kids make good pet buddies but not doggie police. An adult will have to be supervising thedog and the kids every minute of the day. That might not sit well with a child who deserves some privacy and if your daughter has been told the dog is "hers" she can have some misconceptions as to what that means. Like her dolls? Her toys? She can do pretty much what she wants with them as long as they are hers to play with. Would a 3 year old understand that the dog "is yours but not yours"? I am asking these questions as they are similar to what I ask when I interview a family for possible a forever home for my dogs or puppies.. A Yorkie on the larger end of the standard might be a good choice. But, you know your family and you will make the right decision... |
No she FULLY understands that the puppy is ONLY allowed in her arms in my sight as Im an at home mom so I will be with them 24/7 and the title "HERS" means that she has to make sure the puppy has fresh food and water all the time and when the puppy goes to the door that he needs to be let out to do his duty. |
Get both but if you can't...YORKIE!! Well, maybe if you can bring your child to visit both and see which pup reacts better to children? |
I agree....defintely get the yorkie!!!! |
I have decided to get the Yorkie we go look at them tonight at like 6:30 after hubby gets off work :) Im so excited |

I have a babygate set up so Dominick doesn't go around Brandy when he's not supposed to. As for the friends that come over, most of the time they just play in the yard, and if they want to play with Brandy it's always supervised. To me it's the same thing as having a newborn around a 3 year old, it can be done. But Brandy isn't going to be a tiny yorkie. |

I really like that way of thinking!!!   |
I'm glad your getting the Yorkie! Can't wait to see pictures.  I'm sure your Daughter will do just fine. ;) |
Are we really suppose to think about this? Lets see..... Yorkie, Chi, Yorkie,Chi,Yorkie, Chi, Yorkie, Chi, Yorkie, Chi YORKIE - Duhhhhh! |
You know the Chi was cute but I like yorkies better, just because I heard that chi's tend to bond with one owner as a favorite and can be agressive with other people in the family. I haven't heard that about yorkies. Thats just what I've heard. |
