Bully sticks? Okay, I finally did a search for bully sticks to see exactly what these things are. This was the only description on one of the sites.... "These dried muscles become chewy when wet and provide a natural way to clean teeth and exercise gums. 100% digestable.". I've never looked in stores for them because I thought they were like rawhides and rawhide is not something you want a small dog to have. So.... these look like rawhides.... what makes them different and better for our Yorkies? I just read a post about the choking puppy and someone said that giving a bully stick is better than rawhide. Really? Better than greenies too? |
Bully sticks are actually dried bull penis (yes, it's true)and my dogs love them. |
if you go to petsboutique@al.com , they have them there,, cheap.. also get cow hooves, some are stuffed and they really enjoy them..they also have bully burgers that lexi just love... try it |
Bully sticks get the paws stamp of approval from Trace. However, I don't know about it cleaning their teeth cause their breath after, definitely isn't "fresh", if ya know what I mean :p |
Bully Sticks are 100% digestable Raw hide and greenies are not 100% digestable |
My dogs love them! It does make their breath a little funky after chewing on one for over an hour. But hey, it's to make them happy! |
 I see..... yes, now I remember a post a while back telling what these bully sticks really are. And no, I don't imagine that these things would freshen their breath too much. So if bully sticks are dried hoo-hoos :p , then what is rawhide actually?? Dried what? And does Petco carry bully sticks? That's the only pet place we have here - besides a couple places that sell puppies that I won't go in. If not Petco, there is one other place I can check before going on-line. The pet boutique/grooming place here in town has Innova and Tatum is almost out so I have to go there anyway. |
Chewy loves them!!! I even sell them on the site. Surprisingly, I get lots of orders for them, sometimes 10 at a time! I usually have about 100 sticks in stock at all times and I still run out!!! |
There are many bulls running around without their jewels for those Bully sticks :D just kidding but that IS what they're made of...it's a muscle I guess.... technically .....or do we look at it as the brain of the bull like it is with most men ? My girls LOVE them................. as they should ! ;) |
Olivia LOVES them! Our local pet store sells quite a few varieties of them. I've been getting her one that is about 6 inches long and is actually 3 of the sticks braided together. She usually spends a day chewing on them until they fall apart, and then a good 2-3 days on each individual stick. And I'm talking, hours upon hours of chewing each day. The one I buy is aroun $5, which seems kind of expensive for a bone, but it lasts FOREVER compared to other bones. I've ordered them through PetEdge before (www.petedge.com ) Your pup will love you for buying them! |
I have to order these in bulk. My fur kids go nuts over them. I do hate the way they smell, ewwwww and it does leave their hair sticky so I do a lot of clean up. But the good things about them out weigh the bad for sure. My friends get grossed out when they come over and I explain to them what they are. "good conversation piece". LOL :D |

Gerry, I never thought about that before... does the smell of having all those in the house drive Chewy nuts?! I swear, Olivia can smell them when they're out in the car! |
I get the curly 6" bully sticks from Pet Edge and then I cut them in half. The shipping costs at Pet Edge are ridiculous though! I'll check out the Pet Boutique website. I have seen them at a pet store called Pet Supplies Plus. They are about 3" in length and cost about $2.00 each. Be prepared for you baby's breath to smell like he/she just ate a beef jerky! But the smell goes away after a little while. |

Poor Tatum gets one greenie about every two weeks after her bath. I'm convinced that she acts as well-behaved as she does during that bath only because she knows that greenie is coming. After she's dried and brushed, we go out to pottie and she pees so fast and runs to the door and straight in to the cabinet she knows they are in. I just wonder how harmful greenies really are if they only get one twice a month at the very most. |

I don't think raw hides are actually dried anything from an animal...I think it's a synethic material....maybe I'm wrong...... |
Stop talking right now! Pixie Is chewing on a Bull Pokey! My hubby will flip out! and she loves them! So stop all of this Bull Pokey talk right now! I mean it! or you'll ruin it for Pixie! He really kisses her.... that would stop in a heart beat! lol Can't we call it a muscle? Hubby likes Muscles! it sounds manly! Pokey is just way too manly! |

Yep, that's what the website I was reading about them on called it. Muscle sounds much nicer than the reality! Pretty funny though! |

Bully sticks don't deter dh from kissing Trace, however, the first time I told him WHAT they were....I'm pretty certain I saw a shiver go down his spine  |

Yep, I'm gonna have to go get some today too (hope that Pet Boutique here in town has them). I just really enjoy Tatum's excitement when she gets that greenie after her bath and hate to take that away from her. I haven't decided if I will give her one of these bully sticks after bath instead or as an everyday thing. So, those of you that give these things to your babies..... how many a week do you let them have? |
My two girls like bully sticks.....but they love flossies. :D These two products are make by Merrick and are fully digestable. Merrick has their own website to order from if you don't have some place local that carries them. We do have a local pet supply store that carries a lot of good food brands, treats and chews. I have never seen the Merrick brand at Petco. :( I recently bought a whole case (50 of the flossies) and the box is in the top of the closet. Zoe' knows this and when she doesn't have one down to chew on, she points her nose in that direction sniffs and barks to let you know she wants one. :grin2: So yes I definetly think they can smell them. ;) They are good to clean the teeth. The chewing keeps the tarter from building up. Both of mine even my 12 week old love to chew. Telea, Zoe' and Mia :) |

I let her chew on it everyday, especially in the evening when hubbby and I want to watch tv- the really thick one I got has lasted over a month and it cost $3.95. I got some thinner ones and I would say they have lasted a week each and that is with chewing everyday for maybe two hours. I got a pack of 5 at PetSmart for about $6.00. The ones in the package didn't smell as bad as the first one I got. Some of them can really stink. |

One other thing though.... should I keep her off of the leather couch when she's chewing on this thing? Sounds like it gets a bit sticky and we have one of those kinda sueded leather couches that will show wet spots. The floors are wood and the rugs are dark so I'm not worried about those - just thinking about the couch. |
OK I just broke down and bought my Zoey some from I'm a precious pup along with a couple of other treats and tees. What a neat site. I had to buy the desperate housedogs tee too, after I saw that one, me and my co-workers were howling over it.... :p Kelly |

Found the bully sticks at the Pet Boutique. I just bought a 6" one for now to see how she likes it but I think Mommy is the Queen for a while at least! She's ignoring everybody and everything and concentrating on that thing for a while. She loves it! When Daddy got home, she pranced up to him with it in her mouth to show it to him. Just as I started to ask if he knew what it was, he put it between his teeth and started teasing Tatum with it! :D I was laughing so hard it took a minute to tell him what it was! Then he tried to kiss me (after spitting in the sink)! I do believe we have a new favorite treat now. I'll have to look around and see what they are priced at other places because this store charged $2.50 for the 6" size. |
OK, OK...I am going to have to find some of these things for Jolene. We can't tell the hubby what they are or her'll throw them in the trash for certain. He will be completely grossed out. |
