| Feeling like a bad fur mommy I am feeling like I am not being a good mommy to my Bella. The past 6 months I switched Bella's food to Thumper's prescription Hill's Science K/D Diet (I first got the ok from the vet to make sure she can be on it without any issues) For me it was both financial and ultimately convenance. Bella is a much slower eater than Thumper and some times she would not finish right away as a result Thumper would start eating her food. It would be hard monitoring the both of them. It has been much easier with them on the same food. However, Bella does not love the food. Before she was on Wellness and loved the brand. Bella doesn't always finish her food and will look at it and walk away. She will basically only eat it when she is hungry. So the mornings are good but dinner time is a challenge with her. I have started to put parmesan cheese on her food to entice her to eat it, which seems to be helping. However, I have mommy guilt that I am not doing my best to catering to her and forcing her to eat something she does not like. Does anyone ever feel guilty over making their babies do something they do not like. I wish I could free feed her but not possible with Thumper. He is very food motivated and does not know when to stop eating.

| I know what you’re going through. My Jax is like your Bella: he doesn’t eat unless he’s hungry, so I have to leave his kibble down for him to free-feed. I also have an old dog who, while she has never been super food motivated, does consider Jax’s kibble to be a highly desirable treat, so I have to keep her away from it. So what I do is keep Jax’s kibble in an x-pen and put him in there regularly to eat if he’s hungry. It’s not a perfect solution, but it works pretty well. I have a friend who has several cats on different prescription diets, and she uses these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O0UIPTY...ogi&th=1&psc=1 They’re pricey, but she says they work very well. I think they would work for a small dog, too. But don’t think you’re a bad mommy if you have to keep doing what you’re doing now. Sometimes you just have to make the best choice you can and go with it, One minor thing: I would ask your vet about the parmesan cheese. It’s awfully salty to use regularly. |

| When Callie was on prescription food for her IBD all of mine ate it because I do free feed but they all seemed to love it so I didn’t have to really worry about it luckily. Could you separate them at meal time by a doggy gate or crates so she could have the food she really likes?

| I couldn't help but separate a dog like Bella at mealtime until she's finished her meal from any dog who scarfed up her food rather than feeding her food she dislikes. Just feed your other dog first, then keep him busy and away while Bella eats. It's all about my dogs and their well-being and happiness, however much trouble it might be for me. Imagine having to eat plain old cold-too-soon, lumpy oatmeal for breakfast because your brother actually liked it, scarfed it down right away and then finished off your Rice Krispies before you could and your mom wouldn't stop him, rather switched you to oatmeal, too!!!! I'd develop a pretty bad tude over that!!!
