| started cooking her meals....... Duchess gets colitis when she eats certain foods (still not sure which ones) and as a result she is on Merrick's limited ingredients and has been eating that for 4 years. However, it is extremely expensive and Duchess has to be practically starving before she will eat it. She has always been a picky eater and there isn't a large selection for limited ingredient dog food. I've tried many of them and she hated them all. Merrick's was the only one she ate consistently and now she is even beginning to hate that. I have to keep switching flavors and adding toppers to get her to eat on some days. So I found some small dog recipes on Youtube and I have been home cooking for her. She still gets Merrick Limited Ingredients kibble to ensure she is getting all her nutrients. I feed kibble in the morning for breakfast and than her home cook meal for dinner. Her meals contain vegetables, eggs, ground turkey or some meat etc. She can't get enough. I'm not sure why I didn't do this sooner. Her energy level was already high, now it's through the roof and her poop is the best I have ever seen. Nice and firm. And no colitis!!!!!! The best part? She loves it, I have to hold her back. She has never gotten excited over eating. I usually have to tell her to go eat. I am saving so much money doing it this way. Merricks dog food is expensive especially the limited ingredients. It's approaching 3.00 a can and 20.00 for a small bag of kibble. I've cut that bill in half. woohoo! |

| If it makes up more then 10% of her diet then you must make sure it’s a recipe from a vet nutritionist and that you are adding supplements. Balanceit.com Has some recipes and you can buy the supplement. Just food for dogs also has a diy kit with the supplement and recipe together and you can get those on their website or at Petco. Sadly just feeding one meal a day of kibble isn’t going to get her the supplements she needs and she can’t get those just from food. I have seen a lot of issues with bone loss on dogs fed non balanced meals like jaws that suddenly break and significant tooth decay. There are other health issues from not eating a balanced meal also. Balance it makes it very easy.

| Yay for Duchess enjoying her meals! If homemade makes for more than 25% of her meals, just make sure it's varied and balanced. Mike is on 50/50 now, he is enjoying his meals too and his stomach sensitivity reduced drastically feel free to pm me, I can share some resources I use to ensure his meals are balanced. |
