Taylor, the leaving in the room thing is a little strange. I wouldn't want to do it for fear something would go wrong.



Regarding your concerns about Ollie being timid -- made me think of how fearful I was to leave Teddy at the vet for his dental. I thought he would be terrified, but he handled the day like a champ. In fact, he may have handled it better than Max did his day. :D Don't tell Max I said that.



Ollie might be braver than you think.

I totally get what you are saying. I did not take Cali to her eye doctors appointment because they were coming to the car and taking the dogs in to the vet. I have too many questions and want explanations for everything so decided that would not work for me and I don’t think there is anything urgent right now.
I will admit to being very protective, but again, that is my job!

Ollie might be braver than you think.
With the others I would say it was me being over protective probably but I really think it would detrimental to Ollie. I'm sure my trainer would agree. He is very very smart but once out and without even one of his pack he is just so stressed. When Penny and Joey went for their shots I swear they had them for an hour and that's just not going to work for him. I just wish they had some kind of plan for dogs like Ollie because I know he isn't the only one. Leaving him for his neuter at least I know my vet give a sedative before they even start the process of the IV and everything. I don't even want to think about when he needs his first dental or if he would ever have to stay overnight. I'm working on it but with all the pet events being canceled he isn't getting much time to work on it.

They are like human babies or toddlers they can't tell you what happened and stuff. You would never send a human child in by themselves so you shouldn't be expected to with a defenseless animal. People will say you should trust your vet well I don't 100% trust anyone even my own family with them. I keep praying no emergencies happen because I think I would have to be sedated if they didn't let me in for that.

Just wondering ... since human companions aren’t allowed into the vet’s office, would your vet allow one of your other, braver dogs to go in with Ollie and stay with him during any necessary procedure? Even if the two were in crates side-by-side, and the other pup never left his/her crate, at least Ollie would have one of his pack nearby.

I doubt it to be honest they weren’t really that helpful in alternatives. I worry it might be a little worse right now because one of the things that I use to help get him used to being out is pet events and they all have been canceled so he has not been getting much exposure. People are in lines to get into the stores and I can’t breathe in a mask or I would be taking him to walk around the stores. Thanks for the thought though.
