| Wierd backscratching Six yr old rescue. Good guy. For the last 5 days (twice a day) he does a "frantic" back on the rug, flopping, scratching behavior accompanied by some benign growling. Well beyond the normal kind of back scratching. No findable hot spots or sore spots. Maybe anal glands? He's had that before, but not this behavior. Comments? |

| Hi and welcome to YorkieTalk. Congrats on your new rescue and kudos to you for being a rescuer. Sounds like he’s a happy dog but you may wanna take him to the vet and get just basic overall blood work done just to rule out anything. Usually when they have anal gland issues he would plop his butt down and drag it across the rug sometimes on cement or rocks too.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk and thank you for rescuing. Is he on a flea and tick protection, have you checked him for fleas and ticks. If he is on the above he could have dry skin, when you give him a bath, do you use a condition? using a conditioner is not only for their hair, it's for their skin also. If your answer to the above is yes I also suggest a vet visit. If he's rubbing as much as you say he will start losing hair from all the back rubbing. It could also be allergies.

| Welcome to YorkieTalk! Hope that you soon have an answer to his backscratching. A vet visit is probably indicated if there are no visible "easy" answers (hot spots, fleas, etc.)
