2020 Weight Loss w Yorkies/Dogs I don't know about YOU, but I need to get 16 pounds off my body that has creeped on/up. I need to move more and eat less. You might have seen on another Thread that I ride bikes and include my dogs. Katy our Yorkie rides in a Bicycle Basket (weather allowing). She LOVES it! I also walk her, potty training, at LEAST a mile per day. Some days the 'Pee Camel" takes me on longer walks for sure! I wondered if any one here, anyone at all, would like to use this thread as a Weight Loss Encouragement Thread to encourage each other to get out DAILY and walk, run, jog, ride, our Yorkies, and to eat correctly, as we drop extra weight and become HEALTHIER? And. Let's not forget the little dogs that might be eating too many treats and have become.....need to walk more....;):D Even if the owner is thin....sometimes the dogs can be (clears throat) fat. Anyone?????? |
I wish I only had to lose 16 pounds. I have been overweight my whole life and certain health issues seem to make it harder but on the first Monday in January I'm starting back on weight watchers. I had several doctors tell me its more about what you eat then your exercise. Not that exercising isn't good you just have to watch your food intake too. Penny is my only little chubby puppy and part of that I think is because she was not given much food at her old home and now kinda really goes at it or did, she has slowed down a bit now. I wish I could walk outside more but in the really cold if I walk my asthma gets bad and I end up with bronchitis and in the summer its bad because I am allergic to mosquitoes and they will bite the heck out of me. Something that is kind of funny is I grew up riding my bike a lot like all the time but a few years ago I got on one and its like I forgot how to ride and kept falling off. I want to lose weight so I can do more agility with the two boys especially Ollie because he is so timid and shy that agility gets him feeling like a confident big man but goodness can it be a work out for the human too. |

OH AGILITY! I love Animal Agility! I have never participated in Competition, but in SD (we moved a year ago last Summer) I had about 5 acres set up with REALLY NICE, HEAVY DUTY, Agility Equipment my husband made me. Most was made for my bigger Dogs and so that our Goats could also use it safely. You say, "more agility.....". Do you compete? Do you have a course/equiment at home? Classes? Tell me more, tell me more. I have Agility (and Trick) Trained.... Betta and Gold Fish, Mice, Hamsters, Gerbils, Pet Rats, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, Cats, Dogs, Goats, a Pony, Donkeys, and Horses, on Agility Equipment. SO FUN! Such a GREAT bonding and training tool! My husband made almost every single piece of equipment for me. I made a lot of the Horse Agility Equipment, easy stuff. I wish I had taken so many more photos. But when your working with the animals, you do not stop midway and get out your phone and....but there are some photos here.... marnasmenagerie.com Katy would love Agility. We have a Cat Tunnel, the type that fold down, it's about 6' long, behind our couch in the Living Room (right next to their 7' big ole Kitty Kondo, next to their litter, Ha Ha) anyway, Katy runs through it for fun all the time. RUNS! So Cute. I was already thinking about having Deron build her a few pieces of Agility Equipment. Weight Loss IS mostly about not putting things in your mouth. But for ME, if I do not Work Out..... sighs, cause I hate it..... I can gain weight so easy, so danged easy. I had some terrible Lung problems. Honestly. Fixed with sticking to eating right, we eat VERY LITTLE salt, and Working Out. I started walking, at first when I started, for very short walks, because very short walks WERE ALL I COULD DO. Sighs again..... I have to get on this 16 pounds before it becomes 20 pounds. 20 will lead to 50 for me. Sighs....yet again. Now you have me sitting here thinking...... I need to go to SD (we still own our place there, but for how long?) and get our Agility Equipment! I had Cocker Spaniels, so some of the Equipment is small..... Ha Ha |
Years ago I have a page set up here https://dogstarkennel.com/?id=194 for ideas to make Agility Equipment for Dogs.....SAFELY, INEXPENSIVELY AND/OR FREE! When I first started, we had NO extra money for Equipment. 'When there is a Will, There is a Way.' |

I just mostly do it for fun right now but would one day love to complete. I found the most awesome local trainer and trainers that have lots of classes and even an agility group that goes to competitions. My dad has built me some stuff and he’s pretty awesome with it. Have you heard of do more with your dog? It’s where you can earn trick dog titles and stunt dog titles. It’s fun. My oldest boy Joey who will be 4 in February has his expert trick title and we are working toward his champion trick dog title. It’s fun to put on little shows with Joey and see the smiles on everyone faces. My yorkies are bigger yorkies but it’s still fun to show people how smart they can be. All 4 of mine have their Canine Good Citizens title too. I really love training. They are thinking I might have a thyroid issue because all my numbers are high so I am getting a ultra sound done and that could be one of my weigh issue causes. I also have PCOS which makes things a bit harder. But I am determined to get some weight off so hopefully I can figure everything out. |

I definitely need to get in shape. After our boy Chibi passed in May our girl Molli went into a depression and gained 2-3lbs. Even though we have since adopted another pup she is not shedding the extra pounds like I want her to. We both need to excersize more but the weather out here is so unpredictable. I am going to try though. |
My weight was UP higher than I thought.....from the Holidays. Normally I weigh in Daily....if I do not, it is easy for me to gain and gain FAST! Anyway. Deron and I rode bikes the first and yesterday we took the dogs out with our bicycles. (2019 we rode 2251.6 miles on our bicycles) When we take the dogs, Katy Rides, Teanna does the Flying Trot, she is a GSD. THEY LOVE THIS! They get so excited! I am going to have to set the GoPro up on my head so you guys can see Katy in her mesh covered Bicycle Basket. The cute way she moves her head to see what's out in front and on sides. How she Sits Up and places her little hands/paws on the front bar to see more. I am down one pound today! |
Katy was 17 weeks old yesterday (3.8 pounds). I want to say she is COMPLETELY House Broke.....but I do not dare! Ha Ha HOWEVER. She has only had two 'mistakes' in the house since the second week of Dec. We have started 'opening rooms' up.....that is, we have stopped blocking off rooms. I say that, to say this.....I walk a lot lately too. <laughs and winks> That is since Katy came to live with us just before Thanksgiving. I am at the end of a leash walking and waiting for a Yorkie Puppy to go potty......but she does.....some days I am almost frozen or soaked before we come in.....but I am THRILLED, not only that she is 'getting it', but that I am not only bonding with her with this, but also out and walking.....several times a day....WITHOUT FAIL (and I mean Fail on MY part Ha Ha) |
I'll chime in with motivation for those who need to lose weight and hate sports :) Lost 20 pounds years ago by cutting sugars, alcohol, all refined carbs such as white bread, pasta, white rice etc. Mostly protein for dinner, no food after 7 pm and lots of water. No other restrictions. Was craving sugar like crazy at first so made baked goods with whole grain flour and mashed banana/honey as a sweetener. For the sport I did 7-min workout that I progressed into a 30-min during the first month and just continued with it. Started with doing it daily and after a few months continued with 3-4 times per week. I think such high intensity activity helps boosting metabolism. I'm actually very skinny now, looking for ways how to gain some weigh lol :D |

Us too, we cut out Soda, Salt and Fatty Foods.....fatty foods we still sometimes eat, very hard to avoid. Funny. Every year, Every year, people are told time and time again, best way to loss weight.....Diet (listed first) and Exercise! Ha Ha AND MAN! CONGRATS ON THAT WEIGHT LOSS! IT. IS. NOT. EASY! |
Katy had another BIG Adventure riding in the Bicycle Basket this past week end....furthest she has ever gone, 11.59 miles. SHE LOVED IT! The trails we rode were busy and she loved seeing all the people, but especially the people walking their dogs. No. She was GREAT she just rode along quietly and looked at them all. She was dressed in a sweater with a coat over it. It was a lovely warm day, but with the wind chill from the bike ride.....wanted to make sure she was ok. I was down a pound this morning.....let's see if I can HOLD that down! |
Day before yesterday.....Katy rode 5.5 miles in her Basket while our GSD was beside her using the Springer Attachment. My GSD gets very excited to go and not happy when Deron and I just go ride our bikes w/o them! Ha Ha So they were Happy Dogs! Even though we are eating correctly and riding....weight at a stand still.....that's ok, it will go down.....it takes time. Frustrating, but I am Hanging In There! |
Sure, I will join the weight loss club. For me in 2019 I lost about 38 lbs., mostly because I have an autoimmune disease and changed my diet to something called AIP. But, I have been cheating lately so would appreciate being in a group. So, let's get started! |

Congrats on 38 POUNDS! I KNOW how hard that is! I have been doing well. Both eating and working out. My weight is stuck! It will drop if I just Hang In There......I have life long battle, I come from a Family, both sides, of "Easy Keepers"! I think right now my Body is Hanging onto the Fat Cells like New Christmas Toys.....I am waiting for my body to tire of these Christmas Gifts......AND DROP THEM! Ha Ha My problem is, honestly and not kidding, I can have so much less to eat than the average person, or I gain, and gain, and gain.....I am pretty sure fantasizing about food makes me gain........sighs...... Right now we have snow over ice. So I have cute Katy's outside walks, that I go with her on leash (yes, meant to say it like that), have been cut in time. Bless her itty bitty heart! Even with the rain that turned to ice that turned to snow over ice. She has not skipped a beat with house training.....Good Girl Katy! I am looking forward to reading your encouraging posts about how you are dropping those pounds! |
