| Advice on introducing new puppy please. Two resident dogs : Oscar 7year old Yorkie. Kaiah 9 year old Shih Tzu. New puppy will be 8 to 10 week old Labrador retriever. Oscar and Kaiah lived with an Airedale Terrier name Angus. He died 5 months ago @ 12 years old. Angus came first. He was the boss. When the other two came it went pretty smooth actually. Now that Oscar and Kaiah have been top dogs I'm not sure about how to bring in a new puppy. |

| Congrats on your new furbaby. Oscar and Kaiah will be petrified by the new comer lol, and stay farrrr away from him / her. They will not recognize the puppy as a dog because puppies have a different smell so Oscar and Kaiah won't know what it is lol. I had two female yorkies 6 and 3 years old when I bought home # 3 baby Jaws aka yorkie. They stayed on the sofa away from the new kid for 2 months lol. In a month your new baby will most likely be bigger then Oscar and Kaiah, that's when you'll have to watch them. The puppy will be big and playful, and may hurt one of the smaller ones. I let my 2 older yorkies make friends with the puppy on their terms, their time, they had their get-away, their safe haven, the sofa lol. When the puppy got to nippy up on the sofa the 2 older ones came. As long as Oscar and Kaiah have a safe haven, a safe place to get away from the puppy you should be ok, let the 2 older ones go to the new kid on their terms. Have fun lol.

| So sorry for your loss but congrats on the new pup. I have never been a huge fan of all the rules with bringing a puppy in. I always just put the puppy down and watch closely. Everything has always went fine for me doing that. It’s also how most everyone I know does it without issue.

Yes I 've been doing a lot of reading on the subject and it's all very confusing. I may just do as you suggest. | |
