multiple dogs how do you take care of multiple dogs ??? is it very expensive because i want two yorkies im getting one for my birthday but down the road i would love to get another one so she want be lonely |
Well now there are several questions that go with giving an answer. 1- is your age lol, these lil yorkies are a high energy breed, they need a lot of exercise, they are very mischievous little monkey's, and two lol, be ready for Indy 500 races lol and daily wrestling matches, I had 3 so just my experience with multi yorkies. So that question is do you have the stamina for two little indians. 2- What are your finances. The least expensive thing in owning a yorkie is the price you pay for it, you have to think down the road, when they get sick or injured would you have the funds for treatments, meds, follow up vet visits. They do sell pet insurance, I am not familiar with that, my charge card has always been my pet insurance, we have members that swear by them, hopefully they will chime in with their experience. Those to me are the most important questions. My experience with multi yorkies, I got my 2nd girl when my first one was 3 years old, the older one was 100% house broken, walked twice a day as I worked a full time job. When my 2nd yorkie was 3 years old I got my 3rd yorkie. I will say, those were the happiest years of my life. I never watched TV, my dogs were more entertaining and funnier then anything on TV. They were wonderful girls, very loving with each other, ppl, and all animals, of course you have to socialize them. If you have the stamina and the finances, I say go for it. I would make sure your first one is 100% pad trained, if you are planning to have her potty outdoors, make sure she is 100% out door trained with no accidents in the house. It is easier having a 2nd dog if the first one is already trained. And, you must have lots of patience whether it's one or two yorkies, these babies love mischief, that's their middle name, if not watched they get into lots of trouble lol. Yorkies are a fantastic, adorable, special breed, once you are owned by a yorkie your life will be changed forever, in a good way. |
I agree with Matese. My Gidget can be very high energy but when she gets tired, she just flops down for a nap. Not sure how that would work out if I had 2 Yorkies and one was ready for a nap and the other one was in high gear to play. Think I'll just stick with my li'l Gidget. |
multiple dogs do you ever think your dog get lonely when you go to work |

When I had my pack of 3 the two oldest ones died 6 months of each other leaving the baby who was then 6 years old alone and in deep grief. Nothing I did or special things we did could bring back my little clown. I gave her 6 months to get use to being the only furchild. 7 months later and no change, so off I went to get her a BFF. Since she was use to being the baby, the two older ones always took care of her, I wasn't sure how she would react to being a momma. I found a very big baby yorkie at 8 weeks old she was bigger then my 6 year old lol, a georgious puppy. I bought her home, opened the door, set the puppy on the floor, when my grief-stricken girl saw that puppy she ran to it like it was her long lost friend, it was love at first sight, and my little clown was back. These two dogs were inseparable from that day on. I now have a rescue boy, he was 2 1/2 years old when I got him, he is the only furkid and he is happy being that. I no longer work but there are many, many times I cannot take him with me, so he is home alone and just fine with that. Dogs live the lives the owners choose for them, they can be the only fur baby and be just fine with it, can't miss what ya never had. |
Yes it is expensive heck having one is pretty darn expensive. Callie was an only dog for many years until my parents had to move in with my grandparents and they had their yorkie. She did well and loved him. I happened to see poor little Joey at 9 weeks old having already had multiple homes and went and got him. He was much more high energy then Callie or Sammy. Pretty soon after Sammy passed away do to lymphoma. I learned after my aunt came with her doxie that Joey really liked having someone he could play with that could keep up with him. When my aunt left Joey was soooo depressed. Then I saw a 8 month old girl around the same size as Joey who they wanted gone asap so that's how I got Penny and dropped over $300 on the second day because she had a terrible uti and needed vaccines and blood work. Joey and Penny are now extremely close they sleep on each other and play with each other. I do not regret getting Penny because of the bond her and Joey have. Everyone has seemed to come due for all their year vet stuff at one time so that is expensive. Heartworm meds and flea and tick meds times 3 is over $300 for half a year! It is harder with multiples to go on trips and take them places. Taking all three to the vet is an adventure that I do not enjoy lol. Callie is extremely well behaved as my little senior but Penny gets so excited at the vet she pees, and Joey is a bit of a drama queen who squeaks at the vet and if he is getting a vaccine must have benadryl which makes him sleepy and want to be held the whole time. I still take all three to pet events and when it gets warmer going to take all three to the dog park. I wouldn't change any of it for the world but it is more difficult then one. |

Fortunately for me my kids were spaced out, but if one had to go to the vet, I took them all. Reason for this, when the baby was spayed the vet told me to keep an eye on the older dogs as the baby would not smell as herself, she would have smells of other dogs on her, my older dogs may not recognize her scent and harm her. Well that didn't happen, they did approach her slowly when I took her home,(they may have been thinking awww shucks she bought another one home lol) but they recognized her after a few sniffs, besides, they were very sweet girls they would never hurt another animal. So that there would be no curiosity as to why one was going out and two were not, they all came with me. I never found it hard taking all 3, or lassoing them all, they knew the drill, knew who got harnessed up first and stood in line until it was their turn, they all had their own spots in the car, they went everywhere with me on the week ends. I think it all depends on the dogs and their personalities. I miss my little 3 pack. But the expense of yearly shots, flea, heart worm meds do get more expensive when you have multi dogs, that is why one must think carefully when thinking about 2 or more pups. |

You must consider the expense--of spaying, neutering, the medications. It cost me $400 just to ensure Piper was covered for flee, tick, heart worm here in Wisconsin (that doesn't include the other yearly shots, etc); whereas in Nevada, those diseases are not an issue. You need to be sure you can comfortably afford these little darlins! |
I have a now 2 1/2 year old. I have two collies who do therapy dog work, but I thought she needed a companion her size to romp with. I adopted an active seven year old last year. They are great friends and love to play together. Both take naps on the collies s ruffs. Perhaps an older Yorkie might be a better choice than two puppies. My dogs all have great house manners. The collies always accompany the yorkies when they go out to potty. The collies adore the little rascals and the rascals follow the lead of their big brother and sister. Not sure I could train two puppies at once, but then it may be my age. Bringing in my seven year old has been a blessing to us all, dogs and humans. Gew |
