At What Point Do You Say Enough is Enough?! I just don't understand why anyone would risk taking their pet to this place. But more importantly, why is this place still operating? Corgi Dies During Grooming at New Jersey PetSmart: 'Absolute Worst Thing', Says Owner - entertainment - att.net |
I don't ever take my dogs to groomers, nope nope nope, NO WAY. Way too vulnerable. Not gonna happen. |
1 Attachment(s) I agree and therefore find myself at a standstill when it comes to having Piper groomed. I trusted my Nevada groomer, Carolyn, completely and without reservation, but she was a rare find and since moving, lil' Piper has become scruffier and scruffier--because I don't trust anybody!! I now have a great set-up for bathing Pipe, but am clueless and just plain scared, when it comes to trimming, etc. I will say that I am awed by Piper's willingness to sit very still (for a short time) and her patience, but it'd destroy me if I caused her pain due to my ineptness. 'course, I think she's still the cutest little thing ever in the universe--even scruffy! |

I trim Pfeiffer and Marcel - and for me, the key is using a very small-bladed scissors and good lighting. My grooming does not look awesome, lol, trust me! But I know their grooming sessions will be safe with me, as compared with a stranger...which just freaks me out. Those dryer boxes also freak me out! |
Is that the third death there? Crazy. If it’s the same person I don’t know why they haven’t been fired. I love my groomer we do mobile grooming except maybe once a year if the van breaks down then we take them in but its the same person . She calls them her babies and is absolutely great with them. Sammy used to hate groomers but he loved her. |
I don't trust places like PetSmart for grooming Gidget. The groomers are all paid by the hour, have no vested interest in the store or the grooming area. They are there to do a job and that's it. I take Gidget to a private groomer. This is her business and it's in her best interest to do a good job so I'll keep coming back. Also, if I had a real problem (not taking an interest in her, not really caring about anything but her money) I would certainly not recommend her to anyone. This is her business and she has a vested interest in caring for my Gidget and doing a good job. |
2 Attachment(s) I just love you, Ann; thank you for lovely compliment! I like to keep Piper's little muzzle and chin trimmed, so maybe to start, I could attempt a careful snip or two under her chin--using rounded scissors and with Piper's cooperation. Gulp! But you're so very right, Ann, it needn't be perfect! I reckon I'd better learn some basics because I don't have my Carolyn here and I'd never ever risk Piper's comfort, let alone her safety, for something cosmetic with an unknown 'professional' groomer. Piper with Carolyn's care--trimmed ears, lower legs shaved, neat and tidy--and Piper without Carolyn--little shaggy snout! |
I will using a new groomer next week and very nerves about it. |
I have a mobile groomer as well . I don’t like how long a dog has to sit at the groomer when it’s at a place like Petsmart. It’s unfortunate that this keeps occurring at the same location . I imagine the deaths can be linked to he box dryers . |
I'm going to a new groomer next week. It is set up to where you can watch the groomer. You can also do your own grooming and they provide the sink and apron and shampoo. I'm afraid of cutting Zeke's nails though. |

I can't stay and watch Cody get groomed, he's such a momma's boy and drama queen, he would never behave for the groomer, with my girls I could stay, they were so well behaved. |
I am so thankfully for my mobile groomer. She has become like family. We always chit chit for 30 mins or so afterwards. Jackson still hates it because that's just him... he's a freak about vets/groomers/etc and always has been. But I KNOW she is good to him because afterwards he goes up to her happily for a treat and will lay by her while we talk etc. She is a good person and more importantly does a great job. I kind of inherited my moms cockapoo, Lola, LOL (I'm the dog person in the family) and I used to take her to Pet Valu... she started getting horrible skin rashes etc after and I wonder if she was getting razor burn because once I started using my mobile groomer for Jackson for her... she never once had one of those horrible rashes!! So I wonder if the poor thing was being roughed around. :( |
This is EXACTLY why I need your help!! My precious Yorkie died tragically at a groomers. When another dog died at the same groomers, in the same way. I started a petition to change the law! I would be most grateful if you’d sign and SHARE the petition with all dog lovers. (more details are in the petition itself). Thank you for your help with this important issue!!! Right now national news NBC is featuring information about theses deaths. They pointed out that the groomers in all of these states are not licenses. People licensed, like nurses, doctors, and I think hair dressers, are held responsible for their actions as it relates to the professions standards, and most carry professional liability insurance to protect themselves and their clients. I groom Cali’s full coat and she is blessed with a great coat that does rarely tangles, I top off the tips of her ears, scissor around her feet and brush her teeth every day. Other than that let the hair just grow. |
