| What to do when my new yorkie bites? I adopted an eight month old yorkie puppy. He was not socialized at all and will snarl, wiggle, nd bite (not painfully,) while putting on his collars, ect. The trainer told me to just put them on him and let him get socialized to the handling, but I am unsure what to do in the moments he does bite me? Occasionally I will get a quick bite when brushing him for example, how do I respond to this? |

| [COLOR="Magenta"]Welcome to a great group. Mostly please try to stay calm with him. When he tries to bite remove yourself from him, you might want to offer him a toy or chew stick and if he bites let him know he hurt you him by say "Oww[" The problem should get better after he gets older. Might also help to get some training sessions. Anyway I wish you luck it will get better he's still just a pup/COLOR] |

| When he bites tell him a firm no. He probably is just going to take awhile to get used to it but you definitely need to tell him no so he knows it’s bad.

| I’m going to disagree with the person who said to leave him alone when he bites. If he hasn’t been socialized properly that may be rewarding the bad behavior. You do need to build trust with him and keep working with him. Give him treats and lots of praise as you introduce him to scary things, take it slow. Make sure you’re not pulling his hair when you are brushing. Puppies make a high pitched yip to tell each other they are being hurt. You could try this (with your ouch). If he’s being aggressive he might not care. Be gentle and patient. He’s a bit old to only be starting out, so it might take extra time. Meanwhile, look into ways to handle him to avoid his teeth. There’s utube video about how to groom an aggressive dog where he shows ways to hold the dog so it can’t reach you. Listen to your trainer, but follow your own instincts, too. Good Luck. |
