I don't know if I got scammed Hello to everyone that might be reading this. I apologize ahead of time if this post is too long or hard to understand, but I am currently in a situation not knowing what to do and I need to share it. First of all, I live in Honduras, Central America, so in legal terms, there is not much I can do to hold people accountable or be compensated for anything. Yorkies are a very uncommon dog bread in my country. I've been wanting one fot the longest time and I've had to be very patient to be able to find one. I have a male cocker spaniel that is like a son to me, so I've been looking for a female Yorkie because I think it would be a better fit for my alfa male son. A couple of months ago I contacted a person that posted an ad, but he only had male yorkies, so I decided to pass and wait till I found a girl. This guy even dropped the price for me to take the male, he sent me pictures of the pup, the parents etc. i decides to pass. I finally found an ad for yorkies being sold. They told me they only had one male left when I called. I said I wasn't interested in a male and left it at that. Later that day they contacted me and told me they had a female yorkie for me, but she was in a different city and that they could have her delivered to my city. They sent me pictures of the puppy and asked for a deposit so I could reserve her. I paid for the deposit and after that they said that they would get her ready to send her by bus to my city the next day, but I had to pay the full amount before they sent her off. I agreed and asked for more pictures. They sent me the pics, but in these, the dog looked a little different, shorted her and thinner snoutc I called the guy and asked why she looked different and he said it was probably the angle and lighting of the pic, that it was the same puppy from before. I let it go, deposited the full amount and had the dog delivered to me. I waited the whole afternoon for the puppy to ger here, it was a 5 hour trip. When I finally get her I notice a different looking puppy. She was definitely the puppy from the last pics they sent, but different from the ones I had seen previously. At first I was having doubts on wether they lied about her age, because this is a very small dog that looks about 5 weeks old, and doubt if that is the reason why she doesn't entirely look like a yorkie and more like a yorkie-chihuahua sort of mix. But after browsing the internet and asking around, everyone is telling me that she looks mixed. I texted the guy and he assured she is pure bred and that I can get her pedigree in a few months. He proceeds to send me pics of the dogs he claims are the parents and guess what, its the same pics from the guy I had previously talked to a few weeks ago and only had male dogs. So, I text the guy and told him the story and asked if he was in any way related to the people that had sold me the puppy. He told me that he had nothing to do with the puppy, that the dogs they claimed to be the parents were his dogs, but that that puppy was not one their dogs. He sent me more pics and videos of his dogs and told me he was upset that someone else was using his pictures and advised me to report them in several forums and facebook pages and ask for my money back. I texted the guy that sold me the puppy and he said that he assures me the dog is purebred and that I shouldn't worry. But that if I was unsatisfied he was going to solve the issue, though he didn't specify how exactly. He said he would call me tomorrow and that I should please take care of the dog in the meantime (as if I wasn't going to do that 🙄) So now, I'm here with this little puppy that went through a horrible 5 hour trip just to get to me, and I feel horrible. She is cute and lovely, but I paid a lot of money and waiting very long for a purebred yorkie. I'm really upset at how irresponsible this people are. I don't know if the puppy is purebred, but why the fake pictures?? Why would anyone do this? What should I do? I don't know if I can commit to keeping the puppy when she isn't what I paid for, but can I really just send her back like she is a defected item. I feel horrible and I hate this people for making me feel this way. |
Oh gosh, so sorry about all of this. Can you post a pic of the puppy? Purebred yorkies often do kind of look like chi mixes when they're puppies bc their hair is more smooth when young puppies. So, this still could be a purebred. |
Welcome to YT, I m so sorry that you "may" have been scammed. It is very hard to give back a baby puppy once you have held it and cared for it, but I do understand you want what you paid for. Do you have pictures so we may see what the puppy looks like, although it is hard to determine the breed via a photo. If you are set on a yorkie, paid the price for pure breed, you must close your heart and return the puppy. Please try to post pictures, maybe our members can help. |
4 Attachment(s) Attachment 411741 Attachment 411742 Hello! Thanks for the replies! Those above are the pictures of the puppy Our first night went well, she is honestly the sweetest and very smart, very sensitive to sounds and very alert of her surroundings even though she looks veeery young, so I think there is at least some yorkie blood in there, lol. |
3 Attachment(s) This is her with my cocker spaniel, as you can see she is veeeery small. Attachment 411745 These are pics that they sent me before I saw her. Clearly, a different dog. So even if she does turn out to be a purebred, I was definitely lied to. Attachment 411746 Attachment 411747 |
Yes please do post pics. And I would press hard for those registration papers. What registry did the seller claim she was registered with? I cant stand scammers and I sure hope that is not what happened here |
Hi! Thanks for the replies. I've posted pics but I think my posts are under review? I'm still figuring out how to use the forum, lol |
3 Attachment(s) Attachment 411748 Attachment 411749 Attachment 411750 There she is. At this point I'm convinced she is not purebred. We are currently in the waiting room at the vet and everyone has asked me what kind of mix she is. |
Hello and welcome to YT You can use this link to download a picture of your puppy https://imgbb.com/ |
Well people do bad things. I don't think I could send the pup back to those awful people because they will probably do the same thing to another person and the poor pup is going to just keep getting passed around. |
Hi, so we just got back from the vet and its bad... He says its definitely not a purebred, but that's not the worse part. She is way too young to have been separated from the mother. She may get sick, if she isn't already. The vet refused to even give her anything because he said he couldn't be held accountable for anything that may be happen to her and that the scammers should be responsible. He told me to send her back as soon as possible and ask for a full refund. He gave me a note stating that the dog is way too young and doesn't have yorkie common characteristics. |
https://ibb.co/kF5zNF I guess I'll try sending pics through link since I'm not sure wy the ones I've posted are not seen yet. This is truly heartbreaking, such irresponsible breeding, I can't even wrap my head around the whole thing. |
Hi There, So very sorry this is happening to you. Hope it turns out like you want it to. Will you please keep us updated on what is happening with this? I hope the puppy is really a Yorkie for his sake as well as yours. |
I just learned that since my account is new, all my posts are getting reviewed before being posted, thats why its taking so long for me to reply. I have tried to post pics and updates qithout success. Basically what has happened is: - confirmed at the vet she is not a purebred - vet said she is way younger than I was told, she shouldn't have been separated from mom for another month. She is at risk of getting sick and dying. - she is too young to have gotten the vaccines they say they applied, puts her health and life at risk - the breeder has taken responsibility claiming that he got lied to himself about the age and breed of the dog. He says he trusted his cousin who is also a breeder and he scammed him. - He takes full responsibility and has promised to replace with a purebred and he wants me to send the puppy back - I have decided to go to his town (4 hour drive) and return the puppy myself as I am afraid of sending the puppy by bus since she is so fragile - I want my money back and hopefully when I go there tomorrow its what I will get, since I don't trust him to receive another dog from him - I feel really bad for the puppy, but at this point I don't know what to do but to return her since her health is at risk |
I can't post long messages without them getting delayed for review. Updates coming when the posta get reviewed :) |

Honey, sorry to say this but, that does not look like a yorkie, it looks like some sort of mix. I have raised 4 yorkie puppies from 8 weeks old. Lets see what other members have to say. It is a cute puppy but, IMO it is not a yorkie. |

The puppy isn't sick, at least not when he saw her, but she hadn't been eating much. He said that she was too young to have been separated from the mom so it could lead to health risks. As of now, the puppy hasn't been eating at all. I don't think she knows how to eat on her own yet, I started feeding her with a bottle, but she hates it. I tried to keep her hidrated by forcing her to drink water with a bottle. He didn't refuse to trear her, thats what I mispoke. He checked her, took her temperature, asked me what she ate, etc and advised me to return her instead of treating her myself because he thought that they should be responsible for the dog, not me. He also checked her health card that they game me and said that all the vaccines that they claimed to have given her were too much for her age, and that I should talk to them about that because in case the dog got sick, the scammers could say that it was because of any treatment that he gave them, instead of their mistreatment of the animal. I did get attached to her, I have actually not been able to hold back tears. We sent her back this morning, everyone has advised us to give the puppy back and ask for a full refund, we have talk to other breeders, vets, friends. If we keep the puppy the scammers just get away with it and are not held accountable for what they did. I asked my uncle to drive her, since I wasn't able to leave work today amd its a four hour drive. She still hasn't got there, but last I spoke to my uncle, she was doing ok, still not eating or drinking anything. I don't know if we will get our money back, I have been arguing about it with the scammers, they want to give me another dog, this time truly purebred, certified and microchipped (what I payed for to begin with), we don't want another puppy, we just feel heart broken, so we declined and they actually got mad about it and the guy had the nerve to say that I should forget about what happened and just take the new dog. When I sayed I wouldn't, he said I was terrible at doing business (which I actually agree with, considering I got lied to and scammed). So, at this point we don't know whats gonna happen. I never expected to pay so much for a heart break, lol. |
you are a wonderful person to bring her back yourself. I think you have a better chance of getting a refund if you bring her back in person. I'm sorry that this happened to you. |
How horrible...the whole situation! I am so sorry that you are going through this. Like others, I don't know if I would be able to return the puppy because I know she'd be tossed around. And I can't begin to imagine how sad I'd be. But like you, I would also want to be firm and set things right...to get your full money back as this is not what you paid for. My heart ached for you to hear about this. :( Wish you all the best in this. Keep us posted |

Good that you were strong enough and sent the puppy back. I know that was a hard thing to do, but, you cannot let these people charge you top dollar for a dog that is not a pure breed yorkie. These scammers KNOW once a person holds a little baby in their hands it's immediate love, and although it's NOT the puppy they paid for 85% of the time that person will keep a high priced mutt. I know for me, I don't think I would be strong enough to send the puppy back, I am just to weak when it comes to babies. I am happy for you that you stood your ground and returned her especially with the vet saying it was too young. I am sad for this little baby and hope she is ok. I also hope you get a full refund. I would not take another puppy from them, you made a wise choice. I am so sorry you had to go through this. |
Any updates? Did you get your money back? |
Hi! So far I didn't get my money back, they were almost trying to force me to take a different dog, but i put my foot down and said no. They admitted that they sent me a mixed puppy and said it was an "involuntary mistake". They reluctantly asked me to wait till monday to give me my money. If I don't get my money on monday I all I can do is publish everything that happened on different social media. They have a lot of followers and they feel threatened by me making all the incident public as it may affect their business. We'll see what happens on monday. We've been trying to focus on other things and be patient and wait. |

Thank you for the update. I hope they return your money, if not I would do as you say. Go to the media where their followers are and spread the word of their deceit and refusing to refund your money. You can also take them to small claims court if you have that in your country. When buying any dog always try to see the puppy in person, and pick the puppy up yourself to be sure it is the puppy you selected. I think you learned a very big and painful lesson here. Please keep us updated. |
Thank you so much for keeping us updated on the situation. Such a hard thing for you and that puppy but you did the best thing. If the puppy had health problems you would have had to put out so much more for a dog you did not ask for or want as well as the purchase price. Hope you get your money back and I hope things work out good for that poor puppy as well. |
