The grass pollen and tree polllen has been high over here. Also, there was some kind of orange alert in my county recently for things like for airborne pollutants or something.... (another reason I highly dislike-- dare I say it-- hate nj) |
Tibbe gets pretty bad eye boogies but is it just my imagination that a frequent bath keeps his from being as bad, no matter the season or pollen count? Has anyone ever noticed that correlation? When his vet Rx'd a bath every 3 days for an onslaught of itching, hot spots for the two weeks that I did it, his eyes barely had any discharge crust in the mornings. Let him go a week after a bath, even with once or twice daily clear-water eye cleaning and face-washing, the boogies get progressively worse daily. If I wait 2 weeks between baths, his eyes are pretty boogied up mornings despite how many clear-water eye cleaning the day before. But if I use a drop or two of his prescription shampoo to wash around his eyes every other day, followed with rinsing, even if it's been a week or even two since a bath, his boogies are either absent or tiny despite the season or diet. Anybody else noticed that? |

Yes, our little girl does better with slightly more frequent baths - once a week is about right - 8 days is too long. I mentioned earlier I use the eye cleaning pads and a flea comb which also seems to calm her eyes and get the residual goo out of her facial hair. That helps a lot, too. |

Just wipe them down when they get back indoors. |
My pup Calleigh has always had eye discharge. She does have allergies, but even before that, her eyes have always been runny. She does see a dermatologist for her other allergy issues. It's a daily routine we have now, trying to keep up with her "eye boogers." :) |

The only chore I exceptionally enjoy-- is powerhosing the house. (we dont do it anymore, as the new house has wooden sidings) Mmmm other than that, maybe buy one of those air purifiers for the rooms and the house. I used to have one because of my allergies were bad back then... To be honest, in allergy season maybe just cut their hair so close to the body that it's less likely to pick up crud off the air? And when you bring them in, use a lint brush? Follow big wiping them down or bathing them (without using shampoo- I think perhaps just washing them with just water should be good without drying out their skin, as you're only doing it to clean off the crud out of them). Do becareful if you get air purifiers, avoid ozone makers, and look up reviews. The one I had -- had a UV sterilizer (which killed bacteria and spores or made them inert) |
