She doesn't sleep in her crate in your room? |
Not currently, we're in a weird living arrangement that is soon going to change(it was in the process of changing). Once we move into the new house I would want the dog to be with me in my room, but my room has a lot of stuff in it. So it's not an area that I would want to teach her in. Why? Because the carpet is new, and I'd prefer to avoid soiled carpets for at least a few months... Unless there's a way to make them like new... I mean we have natures miracle but I dont think it would get out poop stains.
Plus, I have things like wooden figures my sibling gifted me over the years from their international travels abroad.. Which may end up causing them harm. I could leave sasha in my room and she has no interest in touching my stuff, or would she pee or poop in my room(if she did it'd be highly unlikely and would be if she had some sort of illness- she's so used to going outside she does not ever want to go inside).
But my own dog lacks proper training. Today, I was working on leave it, sit, back, and again potty training. Teaching her sit seems rather easy and I found out something about her. While she doesn't like "Raw" broccolli, if you boil it or steam it she will take it gladly. She doesn't like the dog treats I got her. Go figure.
She is rather clumsy, and she jumps on things, and off, and stuff... Which I don't really mind, but I do mind if she does it in my room where should she get on my table she would be getting into trouble and potentially causing self harm... by swallowing little things.
I brought her to my friends house which is almost 98% clean, except a piece of lint or something that fell on the floor and she would try to chew at it. Id tell her to drop it and eventually she drops it and Id exchange her with praise and shower with affection.
My friend wanted her cat and my dog to meet-- of course my dog was leashed. The moment my dog sensed fear and the cat backed away she just tried to lounge at her and good thing I was holding her by the harness as well, and had the leash wrapped around my hand so it would leave only 3 foot leash length if I did lose grip on the harness.
The other cat she was fine with as it was a quite dominant and imposing cat. So they got along (oddly). I noticed that her chasing is either playfulness or a strong prey drive. Which I will try to work on as soon as I am done with the other training.
I know she likes to play chase as well because when I sit with her in the room which she is staying in(no carpet- bare floors, just her crate and food dishes plus some toys) she likes to do this thing where when I try to pet her with my other hand she chases it with a open mouth and her tail wagging. She doesn't end up biting me, it seems kind of like "pretend fighting/hunting" sort of (but dog version). So I'd start chasing her with both my hands kind of playing with her and she would have her tail up wagging but a low single bark, with another weird inexplicable sound that she uses when she's playing.
So I figured out when she chased sasha she was playing as well, because today my brother comes home and we have to dog sit his friends dog which happens to be a boston terrier puppy (looks less than a year old) and the boston terrier (he's fixed) is a male. So sasha started growling and barking-- I figured out then that sasha does not like male dogs. So, my dog followsuit her and growled at him and barked. To which the boston replied with a deep (big dog) bark.
I noticed that she had different expressions on her than she did when she chased and barked at sasha. When she chased sasha she had her tail up wagging and her overall demeanor didn't seem that imposing as the one she did to the boston. Her tail was still and down(but not between the legs), teeth showing, a long growl and barking repeatedly. She did not look happy at all. Though, it only started when Sasha started to bark, and her barking was directed towards the boston.
Still, we calmed them down- kept the baby gate as a barrier and even though she could easily climb them(sasha doesnt even attempt) I had her leashed as well.
Tomorrow or the next day the boston is going back to its owner but I'd like to work on her (and them) getting along with each other. Obviously I won't take the risk of leaving them off leash or without the gate.
Also, do you have any recommendations for treats that just about any picky dog would like?? I tried apple slices, she doesnt like them(took the seeds out). Tried carrots pieces, she doesnt touch them.

P.s. I believe in a month or two she will be trained enough that I could let her sleep in the room- and hopefully by then I will find a method to fully puppy proof that new room. I am thinking of putting pvc pipes in there to put the wires through and keep the wires from being bitten.
I use a laptop but I'll figure that out as well. As for my figures, I'll see about making some kind of display box with a lock to puppy proof it.
