Collar or harness?
 
Hey guys, I just wanted to ask which one do you guys preferred to use? And for what reason do you prefer one over the other?

Most smaller dogs do better with a harness.

When my pup did her dog obedience, the trainer insisted on a collar. but I find a harness MUCH safer because she's a real wiggle worm.

Harness only, collar for tags only. NEVER walk a yorkie on a collar as they are prone to collapsed trachea.

They should always have a collar on with an Id tag but when your going to hook them to the leash put a harness on too and use that to hook the leash to.

We had a harness for my mother's dog and we used to use it like you just said because she had a tendency to slip. Not anymore, but you know pups.

Sounds like a good idea.

Would it even hurt the trachea if you pull on it though? That's the important part, as others said yorkies are prone to collapsed trachea

It needs to be the good harness though, because I've seen a dog escape a harness... forget what type of harness it was but I don't believe it was a good one... As she escaped from it a few times as a pup.

I think small dogs in general are prone to that right? I thought it was just chihuahuas but I guess I am wrong.

Many small breeds of all kinds are prone to it...and especially yorkies in particular.

I use collars at all times for ID (+ micro chip), and then harness for walking.

The buddy belt is an awesome harness. They are expensive though so better to get after they re fully grown. They are extremely hard to escape.

Yep it's a yorkie thing too. My moms rescue had it bad enough to be on daily meds. My girl has it but it's mild she only had one time she needed steroids for a week. My boy does not have it but when he was a puppy we tried every harness and they all pushed on his treachea and made him cough so we had to get the buddy belt 2 which is the cheaper one but it was the only harness that didn't make him couch. I hate any dog really having a leash hooked to there collars because even big dogs cough if they pull on the leash because the collar chokes them.

That is why it is always better to go with harness :)

They look similar to other harness. What makes them better just curious?

Is the buddy belt the most-escape proof harness? Maybe someday I'll invent a thing to add to a collar that if a dog ever escapes it's trackable by an app map and all

I don't think they look like other harnesses at all. They do not hit very high up on the dog so it can't irritate or put any pressure on the trachea. Other harnesses hit higher up and puts pressure on it if there is any pulling. The buckle makes it every easy to adjust the size so it can go over clothing or a jacket or just go on nakie. They are also leather so they last pretty much the dogs life time.
