Yorkie Talker | What is the average age a Yorkie lives? I have been talking to breeders because I would like a Yorkie and when I tell them my parents Yorkie lived until 19, they are very surprised. What is the average age a Yorkie lives? |

| That all depends on the individual dog and their over all health. If you buy a dog from a reputable breeder, one that breeds for show quality, they have checked on generic disease on their breeding pair, so chances of a puppy having a generic issue would be slim, but that is NOT to say a pup will NEVER have a generic issue, these things do happen. I had 4 females, not from a breeder, my first two I did not have spayed, my fault, my ignorance. One was 14 years old weighed 13 pounds and died from an erupted uterus from Pyometra, the 2nd unspayed girl weighed 13 pounds, died at the age of 10 yo from the same thing. My last two girls were spayed, one weighed 9 pounds, she died at 13 yo, she had an enlarged heart she was on meds that affected the kidneys, she died from failed kidneys. My 4th girl weighed 17 pounds (a BIG girl) she died at 17 yo, old age, her organs were breaking down. I am going to guess and say average life span is 13 to 14 years old. Lets see what the input of other members are. Your parents were so fortunate to have their baby for 19 years, not a common thing but does happen.
