Newbie here... Hi, I just joined yesterday and trying to find my way round, not sure I'm in the right place so please guide me if I'm in the wrong place. I have a 10 week old baby yorkie called Barney and his ears are odd right now, one's up one down. Both were up when I brought him home 2 weeks ago but one dropped about 5 days back. Is this usual? I don't want to tape or anything just wondering if one will go back up or the other drop. Thanks in advance xx |
Hello and welcome to YT:) My 5 year olds ears do that occasionally |
He's just a baby and will go through many changes before Barney becomes adult Barney. Enjoy all the stages! Even if both ears come up, when he starts teething, one or both ear may fall again only to come back up later! Lots to watch for and the folks here are wise and wonderful and always willing to answer all of your questions, so don't hesitate to ask! Barney is a cute name and would love to see a picture of your little guy. |
If I can figure out how to post a pic I will show one of him later. Thanks for your advice regarding his ears. So long as it's nothing to worry about that's fine |
If they aren't firmly up, then yes, there is a chance they won't stay up. If you need to tape, read here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pup...-stand-up.html |
I'm not taping his ears sorry but if he ends up with one up one down then he'll be all the more cute, I love him as he is, no matter how his ears turn out. But thanks for the advice anyway. |
Pic of Barney 1 Attachment(s) Think I've figure out how to attach a pic Here is Barney |
Barney is just adorable. |
1 Attachment(s) He certainly is Metese, I never knew you could feel so much love for a little dog in just 2 weeks. It took me much longer to bond with Tia, but I love her to bits too now. This is Tia |
Tia is a beautiful lil girl, I can't Imagine such a sweet lil lass getting tough with baby Barney. |

1 Attachment(s) I no sooner met Piper than I knew I would do anything and everything for her; and Matese is so right, it's the eyes that make you fall totally in love and from there, Yorkies have an uncanny ability to control your will...With other canines I was able to issue commands, which they followed; I remember, too, I had the ability to say a firm and resounding NO, which always had an immediate and desired effect. However, 'no' is like swearing in our house, because Piper decided she cannot abide that nasty little word and nowadays simply refuses to hear it (when I do say 'no' I think Pipe does a mental Yorkie 'lalalaaaalaaaaaa' to drown me out). You're in for the time of your life!!!Piper...uh? what? Now? New? Nome? |
Barney is certainly learning the word no, mostly I think he's doing that lalala thing. I have mobility issues so it's not always easy to get up quickly to stop him doing something naughty, like trying to pull my carpet out of the door fixings. So I have a clicker with whistle that whistle gets his attention right away. The clicker means reward and he knows what's what. He's such a little character and I love watching him play. I am finding him to be fussy with his food though. He was on a real bad brand of kibble when I brought him home so I've graduated the change over to a good quality one, Royal canine yorkshire terrier junior but he's decided he's not eating it. He doesn't seem to like wet puppy food either. So I've made up some mashed veg and chicken, Turkey or beef, he has 3 feeds a day of that so I'm adding the kibble in the hope he eats some, he's good at picking out just the meat though. Any tips appreciated. |
Awww Barney sounds so adorable, I LOVE watching babies play and enjoying LIFE. Have you tried to moisten his kibble just a little bit? My boy will only eat crunchy kibble, he's 5 yo. All dogs will pick out the meat and leave the rest lol. Try SHREDDING all the meats and mix it well with the food, shredded meat is harder to "pick" out lol. |
Peppersoo, Barney is so lucky to have you for his mama! |
