Let's remember, we love them all!!!! I just read the locked thread about the "joy of owning a tiny". I want to say to Valerie and all the others that I just think of a yorkie as a yorkie. We have the different sizes, yes. But they're all yorkies. I am the proud owner of a very small yorkie and also a very beautiful 8 1/2 lb yorkie. I don't love one more than the other. Yorkies come in all shapes and sizes. We all are here because we love this breed! So I'm going to say "I love tiny yorkies and I love yorkies that aren't so tiny! But hey, why does anyone think a dog under 10 lbs even is a "large" dog? I've never understood that, and probably never will! All of the babies on this site no matter what their weight are absolutely beautiful! I don't want anyone to think that they aren't in an "elite" group because of the size of their babies! WE ARE ALL IN AN ELITE GROUP ON THIS SITE BECAUSE WE ALL OWN THE MOST WONDERFUL BREED IN THE WORLD, THE BEAUTIFUL YORKSHIRE TERRIER! As a breeder, I deal with this subject alot! I've sounded like a tape recorder in the past trying to explain that a yorkshire is a yorkshire. I do think that there are folks out there who have went out of their way to convince the public of "the smaller the better". But I think that all of us know better than that! All of us on this forum have yorkies in a multitude of different sizes. Just because I am proud of my baby who may be under 4 lbs doesnt mean i'm trying to make anyone else feel bad. And just because I have a baby over 7 lbs doesnt mean that I have any less of a yorkie! I will say that some people do have their preferences when it comes to the size of any breed. That's what makes the world go round, because everyone is different. But I think that all of us members on this forum can agree on one thing: We all love yorkies in general, and we don't put anyone into a catergory because of the size of their baby! I love all the babies on this forum as well as their owners. Let's remember, we love them all!!! |
I agree Robbie, and I have three yorkies and all three are different sizes too!! I also have many people who are always asking me for smaller babies, I even had recently a person who was looking for a female who would be over 9lbs full grown.. I have not read the Joy of Owning a Tiny!! |
double post!!! |
1 Attachment(s) Great post Robbie! Thanks for taking the time to write it :) |
True...mine are little ones, but I love 'em all!!! Would have one of every size if hubby'd allow!!!! |
IMO I just saw that thread as starting a division amoungst yorkies on this site. If you guys haven't seen Jeff Dane's site he claims yorkies come in 3 sizes, teacup, toy, and oversized. Why do they have to be divided? Can't they just all be the same? Why can't it just be "The joy of having a yorkie." I just don't like seeing a breed I love going down the toilet because people are so overconcerend with weight. How about the other things like temperment and bloodlines? |
I agree Robbie! The thread was a cute idea..I prefer a heavier weight because I breed but I do like to see the the many variations in apperance. It's really amazing how one breed can have SOO many different looks. Even the ones that are similar in size can vary. It's all personal preference. I had another breeder get offended when I stated my observation of their preference. I saw their Yorkies in person. The fact was noses were longer and they were closer to 7pounds in size. I was not being mean..we were on the phone so I made sure she knew I wasn't criticizing..I just prefer a different look and size....Some of you know eachother on here enough to know how to 'take' one another's post I would think. Let's not try to read into to much and like Robbie said, we love'em all right?? |
Great post I Love all Yorkie sizes. Both of mine weigh. 5 lbs and so that is a good size but after a good poop I guess mine are considered tinies. lol Cause they weight less then 5 lbs? I dont know ...All I know is I love my babies no matter what size they end up being.all that matters to me is that they are at a good healthy weight give or take a pound .........I just dont care as long as they are healthy. So If I had a tinie Yorkie 3 lbs would I brag ??? Oh yes I would and If I had a Yorkie that weighed 15 lbs would I brag ? Yes I would. They are still Yorkies no matter what size they are. |
I think weight is just as important a factor as temperament and bloodline to specific breeds. However, a Yorkie is a Yorkie. Whether you have a tiny, standard or above standard Yorkie, there is no right or wrong. I think people use certain terms to describe the size of the Yorkie for the buyers to get an idea of what they might be getting. |
I agree yorkies of all sizes are darling and I love seeing pictures and reading stories about all of them. Each yorkie has their own unique characteristics too and thats what makes yorkies so endearing. |
Thanks Robbie for you post I copied and pasted what I had hoped to post before but then wasn't able to because it was closed so I will go ahead and paste it here. Thanks Robbie for your post so that I can add it here. I enjoyed reading about Shelby and the joy you have doing all the fun things with her. I believe your thread was started for others to share about their precious little yorkies, and the love we have for them regardless of size. We don't know when we bring them into our forever homes here in this life to share our love and life with them how big they will get to be, we do so because I believe it is that they are such a special breed. They are such an adoreable precious breed, to have one is a joy, and to have one healthy is above all the most important. I have enjoyed reading and viewing the pictures of all yorkies here and the great love each one shows for their yorkie. I hope we get to enjoy many years with Baby Blessing as we were Blessed the ten and half years with our Cassie that wasn't enough for Daddy and I, but I know she would be happy knowing we are sharing our love with another (Baby Blessing) and she would say, I love her too. Cassie will be forever in our hearts and the memories are wonderfull. So glad we have this site so we can all share our knowledge and love for all yorkies. __________________ |

They don't have to be divided, plain and simple. We're talking about Jeff Dane here... |
My girl is 4 lbs and my daughter's boy is 7lbs. She has heavier hair and his is silky. She is darker and he is golden. They are both so cute and different. I don't think there is another breed with so many looks. We had him first and now KimMee. I love them both so much and I consider them both YORKIES. |
