I agree with everyone else! You have good advice. I definitely think it depends on the individual dogs. Your Collie sounds like he's older and already does well with smaller dogs. Jackson is now 8 and I wouldn't really call him 'hyper'. He's very active still and does well with more activity but he's also perfectly content nowadays to sleep the day away if need be. I've been sick the past week and he's just been very chill. But if I'm ready to go for a 5 mile hike, so is he! I think a Yorkie would be a good fit. Your Chi might take a few days or weeks to get used to the puppy -- that's always very normal, but in time, will likely love the playmate. EDIT-- oops just saw the update! Congrats! |
I thought I would post an update. The Collie is a champ and doesn't mind the pup at all. When the pup gets a little wild, the Collie makes a low gruff sound and the pup seems to know, okay I need to cut it out. The Collie lets the pup drink out of his water dish and lets the pup cuddle with him. He is really a great dog and has always liked other dogs. The relationship between the pup and my Chipin (Chi/Min pin mix) is getting there. The Chipin has never been overly dog friendly besides adoring our Collie. I believe this is my fault as I did not socialize her enough or it is just her Chihuahua coming through. The pup and Chipin play quite a bit but the Chipin doesn't like the pup going anywhere near her food so feeding time has to be done in shifts. The pup is definitely learning from the other dogs. He wants to go outside to potty with them which is great. He still has an accidents as he doesn't tell us he wants to go out but he is getting there. I can't tell you how much we are enjoying this little guy. |
