Do males tend to be more affectionate than females? I read a statement from a breeder recently that had stated female puppies are in demand more so than males but in her experience overall males were more affectionate. For those of you who have had experience with both male & female Yorkies, do you find this to be true? Just curious. |
My male is absolutely more cuddling & affectionate - the girls are very independent in my house. My Jaxon is a big momma's boy!:love::love: |
I've had two female yorkies, one was my velcro baby but she was a rescue that came from a back yard breeder and was kept in a cage most of the time. My present female came from a loving home and is very independent. She is sort like a cat that will only cuddle when she is ready to cuddle. While she does follow me around the house, she isn't my shadow in that she will only come look for me if I am gone too long. |
I've only had females and Piper is my first Yorkie. She is very much the tomboy and she wants to be in charge. Piper is finally becoming more open about showing and sharing affection, so it's all good. I've heard (here) that 'boys' tend to be more loving and affectionate. Stand by--you'll get many helpful and fun responses to your question, for sure! |
Both of boys are the most loving, affectionate, snuggling, shuggy-giving, sweet babies! My son's friend has a girl -- not so much. My sister's girl -- not so much. Like others said; more like a cat. I'll love you when I'm ready. My boys are always ready to give affection. Of course, I wanted boys from the beginning. Same with my only child. I was buying all boy stuff, and my husband asked what would I do if I had a girl. I told him I just knew the good Lord wouldn't do that to me, and he didn't. I love my son so much! |

As with every trait, it comes down to the individual dog. There are generalizations about breeds and genders, but nothing every dog is going to fit the mold. My boys are very affectionate and I believe our encouragement has a lot to do with it. In a way, we trained them to be that way. :) |
My lil boy is More affectionate then the little girl I had . |
No, my female is a cuddle bug. When my male wants to be he is as well but only when he wants to lol. It's depends more on the dog then if they are male or female. |
From my experience, my boy is very needy and stares at me longingly all the time wanting my attention, but only occasionally wants to snuggle with me at my feet. My girl is slightly more independent, playing with toys by herself all the time and needs my attention less, but when she naps, she's a super cuddle bug and snuggles up in my arms. So...I dunno which one is more affectionate lol I think it's a tie :D |
I had 4 female yorkies, now all passed, I found them to very affectionate and cuddle bugs, and YES, where ever I was, so were my girls. Then almost 3 years ago I rescued a 2 1/2 yo little boy. I saw no difference in my boy, where I am,he is. Then this past summer I realized YES, boys ARE more cuddly. Heat of summer, cold of winter, this boy will lay against my thigh, with his back legs he will push, push, push himself INTO my thigh wanting to get as close as he can. My girls would lay next to me, on my lap but NEVER tried to get in my skin like my boy does. Mamma's boy? lol, this guy is all tough on the outside, when I have company he LOVES everyone, he will give them a hello wait for his pats, then come flying to his mamma. This guy is attached to my hip. One boy, 4 girls, YES,boys are more affectionate and mamma's boy. |
In my experience, males are just naturally loving, all the time. Females are also naturally loving, when they want to be. I think it is more about their environment than it is about the dogs, but yorkies as a breed need lots of loving and attention. |

Our Addie (female) is very cuddly. She sleeps on our pillow at night and is pretty much moulded around our heads lol. She craves attention and fuss from everyone a lot |
Both Magnus/Zoey are affectionate but it depends on the situation. Example: When I'm physically ill, Magnus shows a lot of affection. If I'm emotionally/mentally not well, than Zoey shows affection. :D |
