I found a chocolate Yorkie :) Hello, I found a private breeder in NJ whom has 1 chocolate yorkie Female, I have never owned a Female before. She is adorable, From what the breeder tells me she is the most affectionate of the litter, The breeder has invited me to the home to meet the mom dad and the 3 pups. Please every one with Females give me advice on there temperment :) Also do you think $950 is to much to pay for this little girl ? I think it an ok fee. Both Parents are AKC reg the black and tan female & Black & tan male will be registerable the male which I am also debating over is $900. YT'ers your thought matter to me so please feel free to advise. Thanks in advance  |
Just guessing In NJ I bet $950 is a reasonable price. You know chocolates aren't breed standard, so I would not expect to pay more than $1,000 for one. I could be way off base here, and if so, am looking forward to hearing what everyone else has to say. :p I am certainly no expert, JMO. |

Can you take pictures when you go??? We would love to see them too. :D Females are great, you can put them in pretty dresses, males are great too, I love their sweaters. :D As far as temperment, it depends on the pup, but if you ask me All Yorkies are the best! Oh, I guess I was no help! LOL Sorry, I just love to hear about puppies!!! :p |
I loved all of my Yorkies (4) and found no diffrence in sweetness in male and female. I did have a problem with my 2 males marking occassionaly but neither was neutered. Girls are fun to dress up and put bows in without hubbies getting mad! |

congratulations :) the breeder sounds great, I only have females, and I love them :) but they all have different personalities and temperments. Can't wait to see the pics.... |
Congrats on your new baby! The price seems reasonable, especially for the area you are in, and the breeder sounds great! Can't wait to see pictures! |
Go see the premises! If the breeder starts talking about how rare the chocolate is then tell her that it happens when both parents carry the recessive gene and recessive genes aren't a good thing. If they carry the recessive gene for this then what other recessive genes are in the lines? Anyway, either way, $950 is a resonable price. |

The second e-mail contained the description of each puppy and pics' Lets cross our fingers that there will be no games being played :) .. I am falling in love with the male too .. omg !!!! |

I have both a male and female. I see no difference in temperment. The price seems reasonable especially for NJ. |

I am not a breeder so I have never studies genetics too much. |
http://members.aol.com/CYorkie/Genet...Chocolate.html The red or chocolate born are affected by the bb genes. The red or chocolate born, referred to as liver in some breeds will also have self colored pigment, such as red, chocolate or liver nose. The Yorkshire Terrier should only be carrying the dominant BB genes. I have not heard of health problems with the red/chocolate born puppies, like with the blue born puppies. Yet most of these situations occur with backyard breeders and puppy mills and they are not likely to share the history of problems with the show breeders. Once again this is a recessive being passed on to the puppies from the parents. This breeding should definitely not be repeated. |
this is one of the best sites explaining the genetics written by Joan Gordon http://dandugmore.netfirms.com/color.html |

Chocolates are cute and most reputable breeders are probably glad that they are rare. They are pet quality, not the standard. Just like parti, tri, tinies, baby doll face, or bat ears. BEauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you want one get it but understand you are getting a pet that should not be bred. Same as all of the above. |
Wow, I learn something new on here every day. I never heard of a choc yorkie. does that mean it's brown all over? As for temperment, I've always had females, and loved them. Right now we have two males and they are great too. I think it doesn't matter what sex they are. And, $950 is a great price for NJ. |
awwww.... All 3 furkids are precious!!! I love that little milk-chocolate nose!! :D |
They are sooo cute! I love that little chocolate brown face! Makes me want one!!! |

The chocolate has nice eyes - I wonder if they will stay that color. I also like the first one. If it's a good breeder, that is a decent price for NJ. Good luck. |

I was just about to type these same exact words! Great minds think alike, Susan! :p |
Very cute! I really love the first one though and the price is way below what I've seen being from NJ myself. How did you find this breeder? Just curious to where they are. I've called many breeders from the ytca website when I was looking. Good luck! |
I don't know anything about genetics in dogs. But, my question is, if when she gets there and there is another pup available, would it be best to get the one that is NOT the chocolate one??? Just curious! We've always had females. I don't think that I could contend with the "marking" males do. |
