I am probably too extreme, we will not even go on vacation unless we can bring our dogs. Yes, we have four children as well but we really feel our dogs are part of our family. Many people think we are nuts, but it is just the way we feel. Could you possibly adopt their yorkie? I know many love a three pack :) |

There are dog owners and then there are dog lovers.. Will Rodgers said it best, if heaven doesn't have dogs in it, I want to go where they go when I die!!!! There isn't anything else on earth that gives out the unconditional love a dog does. |
It is best the dog gets a better home if the owner does not love him anymore. We can't persuade someone to love when love is not in their heart. What's worse is abandonment, and it not getting a chance to be loved. A lot of Americans including me treat our pets like children but realistically I know it's an animal that I spoil. People see pets differently. There are extremes on both sides. I have seen it. |

I have read around the world many people don't see dogs as family member like a lot of Americans. I see rehoming as a last resort and not taken lightly. I don't believe in shaming others for that decision because I don't want the dog to get abused for being in the wrong home. I firmly believe parents should pick the breed and pet. Kids will love any dog a parent brings home. The dog most of the time will become the parents' responsibility. It is just the way it is with children. The just a dog phrase does not offend me. Yes, I agree some use it to downplay the importance of a dog's life. However, I remind myself it's a dog when making financial decisions. I will do my best for the animal, but the humans in my life will not suffer for the pet. I place humans above animals life. I know some animals lovers don't, but I find that extreme thinking. JMO, everybody just do what's right for you. |

A PS:: anyone that has ever said to me about one of my dogs"it's just a dog" is out of my life as they are NOT a friend. My friends that know me and know how I feel about my furbabies have always been supportive. |
Agreed to everyone's comments! I also don't trust those who don't love animals. Their hearts...are different. These irresponsible people who give away their pets are not animal lovers. Can't stand those who feel a dog is "just a dog"! Sorry to hear that your coworkers friend is one of these people! They are the exact reason why there are so many abandoned and homeless pets in this world. :( I sometimes love my dogs a little more than I love my humans . No other living being will forever give me unconditional love no matter what, never ever get angry at me, always always are happy to see me, and do their absolute best to please me! :D |
I believe after someone gives up their dog, that should be it for them, they shouldnt be able to adopt another animal ever again. There are too many dogs and cats in shelters being euthanized. If people had to deal with consequences for their actions maybe they would think before they wanted to buy a dog just to give it up a month later and traumatizing the poor animal for life. |
There are times when families do need to rehome and we shouldn\'t judge someones character or decisions because our choices may be different. I think its better to rehome when a family cannot provide the quality time and resources needed. |
As sad as it is to know this poor little thing will be so sad to lose his family, he probably is better off in another family that will love him as much as he should be loved. Some people don\'t understand how much time and money is involved in owning a dog. When they realize it isn\'t like owning a teddy bear, they want to get rid of the dog. I hope this little one gets an amazing family. |
I think a dog may be better off with a loving home as well, I dont think anywhere in my post I disputed that. If they realize they dont have the resources, patience, or time for the pet then I agree that they should find a home that will. But to be truthful alot of families take them to the shelter when they do not want their pet anymore, or even worse just abandon them. This is one main reason why there are so many pets being euthanized. People do not realize, when they adopt an animal, that this animal will be with them for a decade or even longer and plan for it when they adopt their new furbaby. But after giving up their animal for whatever reason it makes me angry when people go out and get a new animal just to repeat the cycle. Especially after being in college and seeing so many college students who do this. I once had a roomate who had adopted and abandoned three different animals in ONE MONTH. It disgusted me to the point that I moved to a different apartment. I couldnt live with her after I witnessed her complete disreguard for an animal\'s life. |
CaponeTheYorkie That\'s so sad about your roomate who did that. It\'s really the disregard for other living beings that is truly the pitfall of human kind. Agreed that rehoming is good as a last resort, but people really ought to think ahead and be more responsible when making such a big decision to get a pet. If the large majority of the popular is so ignorant about pet ownership, there needs to be a movement to educate people. At the very least to let them know that owning a pet is a big decision and not just a whim. |
