Do All Your Dogs Have My Yorkie Has A Tail The Breeder Said They Did Not Cut This Litters Tail. Is That Normal? I Feel Bad When Everyone Makes A Comment About " Oh Your Yorkie Has A Tail"? |
Yorkies tails are mostly docked in the US, but in Europe it is against the law. They are very cute with tails, too! Pictures please!! |
Most are docked, but I know for some Breeds that's going to change. I have no idea why they started it in the first place. OUCH!!! I bet it hurts! Who ever did start it, should have their tail docked! We would love to see pictures, tails or not, they are all so very cute. :) :) :) |
My tails are docked but I'm seeing more and more of them being not docked. It's a personal preference here in the States. Personally, I like the docked tail look. :) |

Don't worry as time goes on you will start to see more dogs in the US be in their natural mode. Europe and Australa have banned ear cropping and tail docking. It will eventually get here. P.S. I would love to get a Yorkie with a tail :D |
I did learn a little more about the history - for docking tails. It seems that many working breeds (hunting dogs - our little terriers, etc.) were better able to perform the work that they were bred to do -- with shorter tails. Their longer tails impeded the work they needed to - going through thick vegetation, burrowing into small areas, etc. So for many decades - the tails of many working breeds were docked. However - more recently, many of these dogs have become "only pets or show dogs" -- and it is no longer need to have their tails docked. And - because it is no longer necessary - it is becoming more popular (and more sensible not to do it.) I, -- who have been in love with all breeds for more than 60 years, have become so used to seeing certain breeds with docked tails - that some breeds just don't look "quite right" to me with longer tails. However, I am in total in agreement with stopping this unnecessary practice. And, I'm sure I can soon get used to all dogs with longer tails. Carol Jean |
I hope the practice of tail docking is outlawed here very soon...I feel we are barbaric and cruel to do this to these babies just for personal preference in looks. I love a yorkie with a tail!! |

I love my Bitsy's undocked tail but I caved and had my pups tails docked....I left mine alone :D :p |
Tails or no tails, They all are adorable. We had dobermans with floppy ears, my Mom would never cut their ears. I think it mad them look cute. |
You're lucky. It helps them communicate with us and with other dogs and helps with balance. Nothing wrong with having a tail! |

Ask any adult male who has had to have a later-in-life circumcision due to phimosis, and I am sure they wish their mother's had done it as an infant. Docking and ear cropping will be hot topics for years to come. Certainly nothing regal about a boxer or doberman with floppy ears either. JMO Julie |
Smudger is the only yorkie irl that I have seen with a docked tail, as Alona said it is seen as unethical over here and is actually illegal. But Smudger does have his tail docked I think it looks really cute and nice and neat. But I don't dislike a yorkie with a tail, but they do worry me for health reasons. My mums yorkie is 7 and she has her tail and it has a big (and I mean BIG) lump in her tail, my mum said it's where she trapped it badly in the door..... although I'm not convinced :( :( |
I actually love the look with the tail. If you aren't showing, it shouldn't be a problem. |
I thought this thread was about tail docking. Why are we talking about penises and foreskin? There is NO comparison there. Human males are circumcised for health reasons. Tails are docked for the look, to give a neater appearance since they aren't working in the rat fields anymore. You don't circumcise a penis for a neater look. |

i thught i heard that they are allowing dogs in dog compitions even when their tails are not docked |
Ok I wasn't going to say this but....I prefer both my yorkies AND men docked....hehe - sorry - but this was a little racy... :D I guess when they change the standard ....I would go with that but I do like the look of docked tails.... and I also love the look of a tail.....my preference is the standard yorkie look. |
