Rant about bad groomer. Hi I am not sure where to post this. I took my 2 girls to get groomed and I told them do not cut Sunshine's hair just a bath and condition her hair . Well they cut her hair short on top of her head ( she is 5yrs old and never had her hair cut) so now I can not even put a bow in it.. They also cut the hair on the sides of her face and shaved the top of her nose.. Let just say she looks goofy. Now for Lucy I told them to shave her body (she is a big tomboy)9and do not cut the hair on her head or face well they cut the hair on her head gave her bangs it looks like she has a bowl on her head. I showed them pics of the cut I wanted for her . I can not even put a bow in her hair. I know it will grow back but I feel this is unacceptable . They charged me $80 for my girls to look goofy.. They did not listen to anything I said so I guess I will be looking for another groomer. Sorry for my rant but this very upsetting to me I spend a lot of time caring for my girls hair and to have someone just screw it up.. |
You should not have paid! I would have been livid! Seriously they had one job to do and they screwed up on both dogs! Did you talk to the owner of the shop? Or if it's a chain I would write a review on Yelp or Google. I learned a long time ago on here, why should I pay someone else to screw up my dogs hair when I can screw it up myself for free? I never have taken mine to a groomer. I learned how to groom myself. After a few tries you get it. Mine even get compliments sometimes. |

I'm baffled why some groomers refuse to follow basic instructions. It's one thing if tangled or matted hair makes the desired cut impossible, in which case they should contact the doggy parent first and explain. But when they cut topknots and nose bridge hair when specifically told not to . . . . I'm sorry you had a bad experience. :( Like Capt Noonie, this is one of the reasons I groom at home. |
Omgoodness. I would be in total shock and mad beyond words could express. Do you think that it was malicious intention??? I would agree with not paying or go in when the owner is there and explain the situation with before and after pictures plus show the owner what your pictures looked like as the example. I think you should get a full refund plus never take your babies there again. I found a wonderful groomer for Buddybear Wishing you get a groomer next time that cares about your babies and wants repeat customers |
I seriously think there has to be some malicious intent in at least some of these cases, like the groomer hates yorkies or small dogs in general. Why would you cut off a topknot when they specifically said not to? If they can't follow simple directions, how do they even have a freaking job? |

I'm sorry. I had one that told me her "hair was too matted" and shaved her completely down and gave her a bad cut. The next one expressed her anal glands so badly that she screamed and had her tail tucked. It caused her a huge phobia. Even with her excellent groomer now, she still can't be shaved in her girly bits areas. This was with us watching, too. I get furious when they put that noose around their neck. I'm sorry, these little guys get super funny about bad cuts, too. I hope you find a good groomer fast! My trainer introduced me to my groomer and I could have kissed her for it. editing to add: How DARE they cut her top knot? My fantastic groomer misunderstood hubby's instructions, so she did that first time. Now she follows to a T. Chew's hair was ready for ponytail in less than four weeks. I hope this is the case for you! |
WOW. I'd be SO mad too! Did you pay w/ your credit card? If so, I'd object to the charge now. You asked for a specific service, they agreed to do it, and then they did not do what was agreed to. The only way to assure safe and accurate grooming is to do it yourself, really. That's what I do, and I'd never leave my kiddos in the hands of strangers. You can learn how to do it - I promise :)! |
wow so frustrating ! start looking now for a diff groomer and def give them a bad review online-facebook page if they have. |
Hi I paid cash and it was pet smart . I dropped them off at 6pm and got a call to pick them up at 8:45 and they close at 9. The girls that were in there started chatting about how good they were till 8:55 that's when they brought my girls out to me and said I needed to hurry they close at 9 . It's kinda like they knew they screwed up and didn't want me to find out till later. I am calling the store and talking to the manger of the grooming department. |
I am a groomer, and have alot of people come to me telling me about experiences from their previous groomer and i always say the same thing. I would have refused to pay. They didnt do what you asked so you dont pay. I would be so mad! Even if i wasnt a groomer i would groom my own dog just because of all the horror stories i hear! But your right! It will grow back! |

I called today and the lady that answered the phone knew who I was when I mentioned my dogs I told her what happened and she was upset because she was there when I came in and she heard everything I wanted . She said the manager will be in tomorrow at 12:30 so I decided that I am going to tell her in person.. Also my sister was with me when I took them . So I will keep everyone posted on what happens. |
Am interested to know how it resolves. I've had a horrible experience as well, and am now learning how to groom myself. |
Oh, yes. I took my late Yorkie to Pet Smart. It was a terrible experience. First of all our appointment was @ 12:00pm. All I wanted was a bath, ears tipped, and a trim. At 3:00pm I called to check, said he wasn't ready. Well, it was 6:00pm when I got to get him. 6 hours!! Around his eyes were burned from the clippers and his belly area was also very red. I was mad as hell. Someone called from Pet Smart the next day to see if I was satisfied. Well, I gave her an ear full. She did not say sorry offer a free groom, or anything. All she said was "I guess you won't be back." No way would I take my baby back to those butchers. |

I live in a small town (but very spread out land wise). We only have two choices for pet grooming: Petsmart and one other place (which is all the way across the county from us). The only problem we have ever had with our Petsmart is them not cutting enough. Thankfully, they've never over cut; however, now that we have two, we groom them ourselves almost all of the time. My husband set up a table in our garage with a pole. We have multiple fans going for summer and a heater for winter. We do not have to use a leash loop with Zeus, but we do with Perseus. Percy is a squirmy little boy. My husband shaves their bodies, and I do the finger cutting on the legs. We both work on their heads and faces. It's work but well worth it in the end. They are happier (if they can be getting their hair cut) at home and with us. Learning to do it was not that hard, and like someone else said, we can screw it up like anyone else for free. Good luck to you! |

Well I just got back from Pet Smart . I talked to the manager of the grooming department . I told them everything. They gave me a full refund and apologized for everything. Well at least now they look goofy for free. |
Good for that at least! |

Anyway. SOOO glad you made a complaint to the manager and that you got a full refund. It's ridiculous they even charged you for it. They should have been apologizing profusely instead. Like other suggested, you can try out grooming yourself. It's a really fun bonding experience between you and your little one :) |
And on the other side of the spectrum...I've known from day one that I have thee best groomer everrrr! Carolyn really listens to me and will repeat my 'directions' if I've been unclear. She 'gets' me and understands Piper; when I hand her to Carolyn, you can just see Piper relaxing in her arms~~right?! I am fortunate to have found Carolyn; she's a lovely, loving person and a uniquely talented & skilled groomer. I trust her with my Pipe and that, pretty much, says it all. |

The craziest story I have read here on YT happened to a member when she brought her full coat Yorkie to the vet for a routine visit. The vet tech, without permission, cut the dog's mustache, the hair at the corners of the eyes, claiming it was absolutely necessary to do on all Yorkies. Save |
I had a great groomer who closed her business because of health issues. She would do just what you wanted and her prices were great also a full grooming was $25 for one and $15for second one if you brought them in together. She really loved what she did and it showed in your pets they loved her. I wish I could find another groomer like her . I think I will try to groom my girls myself. |
That was totally disgusting. If i'm at your situation ill be mad too and I will look to the owner of the store. |
